JACOB KNOPP, OF BEAVER, OHIO.
FORCING ATTACHMENT FOR LIFT-PUMPS.
SPEC'IFTCATION forming part of Letters Patent No. 364,655, dared June 14,1887.
Application filed November 11, 1886. Serial No. 218,608. (No model.)
To all whom it may concern:
Be it known that I, JACOB Knorr, a citizen of the United States, residing at Beaver township, in the county of Mahoning and State of scribed, and Aparticularly pointed out in the claims.
In the accompanying drawings, which form apart of this speciiication, Figure l is a perspective (partly in section) of an ordinary liftpump with my attachment applied thereto;
and Fig. 2 is a vertical section of the attachment on an enlarged scale.
Reference-being had to the drawings and the letters marked thereon, A represents a lift-pump, provided with a handle, B, aspout, C, and the other usual appendages of such pumps. (Not shown.)
D represents my forcing attachment, which consists of a cylinder, E, open at the top and provided with screw-threads a at thebottom, by which it is attached to the screw-threaded projection-a of the section F, as` shown. The cylinder is also provided with a piston, b,
which has an aperture,-c, through it controlled by a check-valve, d; and'in the lower end of the cylinder is a bottom, e, which is seated in a rabbet in the section F. The bottom has an aperture, f, in it controlled by a check-valve, g, which is closed by a spring, h, secured to the upper side of the valve and to arod or bar, t, which rests upon the upper side of the bottom e.
G represents an airchamloer supported by a tubular arm, H,which forms an integral part of the section F, but may, however, be made separate therefrom and attached to it by screw-threads in the usual manner.
In the section F is formed a chamber, 7c, which communicates with the cylinder E and the air-chamber and witha discharge-passage,
Z, in a nipple, m, to which a section of hose, n,
is attached for conducting the water being forced to any desirable place; rIhe section F is also provided with a bracket, o, for securing the attachment to the pump-stock.
The piston of the cylinderE is connected to the pu1np-handle B at p, and is operated thereby during each stroke of thchandle; and the pump A and the cylinder E are connected by a detachable conductor, I, which engages with the pumpspout O and with a projecting nipple or branch, q, formed on the exterior of the cylinder.
The conductor may be made of metal, rubber hose, or other iiexible material. The nipple q maybe connected directly to an aperture in the pump-stock, thus dispensing Awith the conductor I, if desired; and the nipplem may be placedlin ditferentpositions to suit different pumps.
By the application of my attachment to liftpumps water may be forced to a considerable distance, and applied to raising water to elevated tanks in buildings for the extinguishment of iires about the premises, for washing vehicles, for sprinkling lawns, and other useful purposes.
Having thus fully described my. invention, what I claim is l. A pump attachment consisting ofacylinder and an air-chamber connected to and supported by an intermediate section provided with a dicharge-nipple, and a bracket for attaching it to an ordinary pump, substantially as described.
2. A pump attachment consisting of a section provided with a bracket for securing it toa pump-stock, a lateral tubular extension surmounted by an air-chamber, a vertical projection supporting a cylinder havingasupplyinlet near the upper end thereof, a dischargenipple opposite to the cylinder, and a valve between the cylinder and the chamberin said section, in combination with a valvcd piston, substantially as described.
3. The combination of an ordinary liftpump and a separate detachable forcing at tachment secured to the pump-stock and connected with a discharge-orifice thereof, and having its piston connected to the handle by which the lift-pump is operated, substantially as described.
IOO
4. The combination of an ordinary liftpnmphnndle, and :L detachable lexible conpump provided with u discharge-spout, a scpduetor between the pun'ip-spout and the cyln'mte and detachable 'forcing attachment seinder ofthe attachment, substantially :is decured to the stock of the pump, and a conductor scribed. 1 5

scribed.
5. The combination of n pump provided JACOB IXNOPI" with n handle and n, dischnrgospout, a. de- VitnesSes: ro tnclmble forcing` attachment secured to the XV. T. HOLLOWAY,
pump-stock with its piston connected to the CIIAs. D. DICKINSON.
