SPECIFICATION forming part of Letters Patent No. 363,083, dated May 17, 1887.

Application filed February 19, 1887. Serial No. 28,233. (No model.)

To all whom 4it may concern:

Be it known that I, OYRUs A. BIEDER, a citizen of the United States, residing at Authony, in the county of Harper and State of Kansas, have invented new and useful Improvements in Blank-Depositories, of which the following is a specification.

My invention relates to improvements in blanlQdepositories, or tile-cases for circulars or blanks, such as are used in every office to contain circulars, bill-heads, printed letters of information, Smc.

In the drawing hereto annexed, the figure shows a perspective view of my improved depository or case with the door open, and adapted `for use in a post-office, showing the names of the different circulars used for different purposes.

Referring to the drawing, in which similar letters denotecorresponding parts, A desig nates the body of the ease, having the grooves a on opposite sides thereof to receive the shelves B, formed of any thin niaterialnsuch as sheet-iron, glass, or wood-and the space above each shelf is numbered on the edge of the box close to the said shelf. 4

The door C is provided with a series of grooves or lilies, c, to correspond with the shelves in the box, and above each groove or line is a number corresponding to that of the shelf opposite thereto, and followed by the name or use of the circular or blank which is to be found on the shelf bearing the said number. Thus the door is provided with a complete directory to the contents of the several shelves of the case, which directory refers by number or letter to the said contents, thus enabling a person wholly unfamiliar with the location ofthe circulars to be used at different times to iind said circulars easily and quickly,

said unskilled person being thus placed on an equality in point of rapidity of work with a person who has long been engaged in the Sallie kind of work who has used the old forms of eascs*simply a row of shelves or a series of recesses, sometimes called pigeon-holes.

My invention will thus save much valuable time in the selection for use of circulars, 85e., which are continually used in connection with the work of any large oiiice, and especially in connection with the work of the Government departments, as the Post-Ofiice, dre.

Having thus described my invention, what I claim. and desire to secure by Letters Patent of the United States, is`

A case or depository for blanks, comprising the box A, having the grooves or ways in its sides, and the series of independent removable shelves sliding in the grooves or ways, andthe numbers or letters on the box opposite each shelf, combined with the door hinged to one side of the box, and having on itsinncr face a series 'of lines or grooves corresponding in number and location to the shelves, cach line or groove on the door having a number orletter corresponding to that of the shelf adjacent thereto, and also such information as will give the nature ofthe blank to be found on the shel f, whereby the door when opened will serve asa guide to assist the proper withdrawal of the blank desired, as set forth.
