Abstract

A portable device is provided with a pad, sponge or the like adapted to contact a window for cleaning which is connected via a linkage to an electrically operated vibrator. As the device is moved over the surface of the window to be cleaned by an operator the vibrating motion causes the pad to clean the surface.

As the device is moved over the surface of the window to be cleaned by an operator the vibrating motion causes the pad to clean the surface.

WINDOW-CLEANING APPARATUS SUMMARY OF THE INVENTION The vibrator is disposed in a housing adapted to be held in hand and provided with a fingeror thumb-controlled on-off switch. An elongated linkage is secured at one end to the vibrator and the other end extends out of the housing. The pad or the like is detachably secured to supporting means which in turn is secured detachably to the other end of the vibrator.

DETAILED DESCRIPTION OF PREFERRED EMBODIMENTS Referring now to FIGS. 1-6, there is shown a housing with an elongated handle 10 connected at one end to an enlarged section 12. The other endof the handle detachably receives one end of a power cord 14 having a male plug 16 at the other end adapted to be connected to a source of electric power.

An on-ofi' slide switch 18 disposed on top of the handle and adapted to be moved by a thumb is connected in circuit via conductors 20 to both cord 14 and an electric vibrator 22 disposed in section 12. When the switch is closed, vibrator 22 imparts a reciprocating back and forth motion to a plate 24 in the section and secured to end of a linkage 26 which extends at right angles through the casing.

The outer end of the linkage 26 snap fits into one end of a bracket 28 which can be elongated if desired and secured at its other end to a pad-holding member 30. Alternatively, linkage 26 can be directly and detachably secured to member 30.

A pad 32, or sponge or the like can be detachably secured to member 30 and can contain cleaning solution, paste or the like whereby windows can be cleaned easily as shown.

While I have described my invention with particular reference to the drawings such is not to be considered as limiting its actual scope.

Having thus described this invention what is asserted as new l. A window-cleaning device comprising a housing having an elongated handle and an enlarged portion connected to said handle,

an electric reciprocal vibrator motor, which is not a rotary motor, positioned within said enlarged portion,

an electric line cord whose end tenninates within said housing and which extends from said housing and a switch connected to said motor and to said electric line cord,

a first linkage member secured at its one end to said vibrator for reciprocal motion, said linkage member being a stiff member having fastening means near its opposite end,

a second linkage member which is a stiff elongated extension member whose one end has fastening means adapted to be removably secured to the said fastening means of said first linage means,

said second linkage member being disposed at substantially a right angle to the opposite end of said first linkage member, the opposite end of said second linkage member being substantially parallel to the opposite end of said first linkage member,

a holder removably secured to the opposite end of said second linkage member and also adapted to be secured to the opposite end of said first linkage member,

and a cleaning element affixed to a backing support, said backing support being removably attached to said holder.

Claims

1. A window-cleaning device comprising A HOUSING HAVING AN ELONGATED HANDLE AND AN ENLARGED PORTION CONNECTED TO SAID HANDLE, AN ELECTRIC RECIPROCAL VIBRATOR MOTOR, WHICH IS NOT A ROTARY MOTOR, POSITIONED WITHIN SAID ENLARGED PORTION, AN ELECTRIC LINE CORD WHOSE END TERMINATES WITHIN SAID HOUSING AND WHICH EXTENDS FROM SAID HOUSING AND A SWITCH CONNECTED TO SAID MOTOR AND TO SAID ELECTRIC LINE CORD, A FIRST LINKAGE MEMBER SECURED AT ITS ONE END TO SAID VIBRATOR FOR RECIPROCAL MOTION, SAID LINKAGE MEMBER BEING A STIFF MEMBER HAVING FASTENING MEANS NEAR ITS OPPOSITE END, A SECOND LINKAGE MEMBER WHICH IS A STIFF ELONGATED EXTENSION MEMBER WHOSE ONE END HAS FASTENING MEANS ADAPTED TO BE REMOVABLY SECURED TO THE SAID FASTENING MEANS OF SAID FIRST LINAGE MEANS, SAID SECOND LINKAGE MEMBER BEING DISPOSED AT SUBSTANTIALLY A RIGHT ANGLE TO THE OPPOSITE END OF SAID FIRST LINKAGE MEMBER, THE OPPOSITE END OF SAID SECOND LINKAGE MEMBER BEING SUBSTANTIALLY PARALLEL TO THE OPPOSITE END OF SAID FIRST LINKAGE MEMBER, A HOLDER REMOVABLY SECURED TO THE OPPOSITE END OF SAID SECOND LINKAGE MEMBER AND ALSO ADAPTED TO BE SECURED TO THE OPPOSITE END OF SAID FIRST LINKAGE MEMBER, AND A CLEANING ELEMENT AFFIXED TO A BACKING SUPPORT, SAID BACKING SUPPORT BEING REMOVABLY ATTACHED TO SAID HOLDER.
