PRINTERS CHASE.
SPECIFICATION forming part of" Letters Patent No. 362,301, dated May-3, 1887. Application filed November 2, 1886. Serial No. 217,813. (No, model.)
To all whom it may concern:
Be it known that I, HOLIVER MEGORDEN, of Farmington, in the county of Rio Arriba and Territory of New Mexico, have invented a new and useful Improvement in Printers Chases, of which the following is a full, clear, and exact description.
This invention consists in a movable or adjustable chase for locking up printerstype, substantially as hereinafter described, and pointed out in the claims.
Reference is to be had to the accompanying drawings, forming a part of this specification,
locked.
The entire chase is or may be made of steel and iron or other suitable materials.
A A. are the top and bottom pieces of the chase for attachment onto a job-press, as usual, and having raised longitudinal strips b 12, provided'with slots 0 c for adjustment in and along the side strips, B B, nearer to or farther from each other, staples or'clips d d, which straddle the strips b 1), serving to keep said side strips from slipping out or longitudinal movement.
D D are the end strips, between which and the side strips the form is locked or held. These end strips, D D, are longitudinally slotted, as at e, to receive the side strips through them, and along which they are adjustable nearer to or farther from each other.
Both the side and end strips, B D, are pro- Vided with longitudinal rows of perforations, f, to provide for their respective adjustments nearer to or farther from each other.
E E are the corner-holders, which, in conjunction with bolts or pins 9 h, passing through them and through the perforations f in the side and end strips, BD, serve to lock.
or hold said strips to their places when adjusted. These holders E E also serve to couple and guide and keep parallel with each other the side and end strips, respectively. Thus said corner-holders E E have slots 2' through them to receive within and through them the side strips, B B, and to provide for their sliding in and along said strips when adjusting the end strips, D D, nearer to or farther from each other, the removable pins or bolts 9, which pass through perforations k in said holders and through the perforations f in the side strips, serving to secure such adjustment. Furthermore, said corner-holders or combined slides and guides E Ehave transverse grooves Z l in themabove and below at right angles to the'slots 13, within and through which the slotted end strips, D, are guided and are free to slide as the side strips, B B, are adjusted nearer to or farther from each other, the removable pins or bolts h, which pass through a perforation, m, in each holder E and through the perforations fin the end strips, D, serving to secure such adjustment. Said combined slides and guides or cornerholders E E are constructed with a cut-away portion, a, in direction of their thickness, so as not to protrude within the space in which the form is held, or, in other words, to receive the form within them.
By drawing out the bolts g h the side and end strips, B D, may be adjusted as required; or, by only drawing out either of said sets of bolts 9 or h, either the side or end strips only may be adjusted nearer to or farther from each other, and the reinsertion of the bolts through the holders E and perforations f in the side or end strips, B D, or both, secures said strips at their respective adjustments. In this way or by these means, too, the chase may be adjusted to lock up any size or shape of form from a single line to a square or faces at right angles to the slot, locking-pen forations k m, and adapted to receive the form within them, substantially as specified,
