FOOT-SCRAPER.

SPECIFICATION forming part of Letters Patent No. 362,237, dated May 3, 1887.

Application filed February 12, 1886. Serial No. 191,724. (No model.)

To all whom it may concern-.-

Be it known that I, ADDA J. \VARREN, a citizen of the United States, residing at New Orleans, in the parish of Orleans and State of Louisiana, have invented a new and useful Improvement in Foot-Scrapers, of which the following is a specification, reference being had to the accompanying drawings.

My iiivention relates to improvements in foot-scrapers adapted for use in connection with door-steps, walks, &o.; and the novelty consists in the construction and arrangement of parts,substantially as hereinafter described, and pointed out in the claim.

In the drawings, Figure 1 represents a perspective iew of a foot-scraper constructed in accordance with my improvement and in position upon a door-step. Fig. 2 represents a front edge View thereof, showing the scraper in position for use.

Referring to the drawings, in which similar letters of reference denote similar parts, A designates the scraper, of cast-iron or other suitable metal and in a single piece, as shown.

a designates the body or portion that comes into immediate contact with the steps or other place of support to which the scraper is attae-hed. The body (it consists in a thin flat bar having rounded rear ends and projecting portion at its middle.

a designates apertures formed through the body for the passage of securing nails or screws, whereby it is held in position.

b b designate upwardly projecting outwardly-inclined arms, connected together at their tops bya bar, I), the upper edge of which is straight and in a plane parallel with the lower surface of the part or body a. The inner surface of the bar I) is rounded or oval, to form a comparatively sharp scraping edge, whereby ,to scrape mud,&c., from the bottom or sole of the boot. The lower edge of the bar I), as also the inner adjacent edges of the arms I), are curved as regards their length, theinner surfaces thereof being slightly rounded to form scraping-edges, whereby to cleanse the upper portion of the boot from mud, &c.

b designates upwardly-projeeting ears from the opposite ends of the bar b,the inner edges, 1), of which are at substantially right angles with the upper edge of the bar I), and are adapted to cleanse the edge of the boot-sole, while outer edges of said ears,as well as the upper part of the arms I), are rounded or curved outwardly to cleanse different portions of the boot or shoe.

d d designate outwardly projecting upwardlyinclined and laterallycurved arms from one end of the body a, the inner edges of which, between said arms, are provided with scraping-edges for the purpose of cleansing the heel or rear portion of the boot, and also for the purpose of drawing off rubbers or over shoes. The outer ends of the arms d d are formed into scrapingpoints for different portions of the shoe or boot.

The operation of my improvement will be readily understood without further description.

The sole of the boot or shoe can be very easily cleaned of mud or other matter adhering thereto by scraping it on the upper edge of the cross or tie bar I), and the side edges of the sole and upper can likewise be cleaned by the inner edges, b, of the upwardly-extended lugs b while the lower edge of the bar I) is especially adapted for cleaning the upper surface of the shoe-upper.

The arms d are arrangedat a more acute angle to the body a than the arms b, and they are also located to one side of the arms I), so that the heel of the boot or shoe can be conveniently cleaned without hinderance or obstruction from the arms I), the arms (I also affording convenient means for pulling off rubber overshoes without manipulating them by thehand.

Having thus described myinvention,I claim and desire to secure by Letters Patent- As a new article of manufacture, a scraper for boots or shoes, formed of a single piece of metal and consisting of a body, a, to be secured to a step or the like, the parallel arms b, arranged at an angle to the body a and par allel with each other, the transverse bar 1), connecting the upper extremities of the arms and having the beveled edge, thelugs bflprojecting upwardly from the extremities of the trans verse connecting-bar, and the longitudinallycurved arms (Z, arranged on one side of the bars I) and at an acute angle to the body a, substantially as described, for the purpose set forth.
