RENELT ATTURNEYS PATENTEDuuv 23 197i 3.622010 sum 2 OF 2 INVEN'IUR MARJORIE Gv RENELT ATTORNEYS 1 PORTABLEORNAMENTAL TISSUE HOLDER BACKGROUND OF THE INVENTION Field of the Invention This invention relates to portable and decorative holders for storing spare rolls of toilet paper and the likeult is usually desirable to maintain extra rolls of tissue in or near a bathroom. In the past, it has been necessary to store such extra rolls either in a closet near the bathroom or in thebathroom itself. lf stored in the bathroom, the extrarolls of tissue are generally placed on thewater tank, or in the medicine chest which, in many instances, is too small and, even if the medicine chest is sufficiently large to hold the roll of'tissue, unnecessary and undesirable crowding in the medicine chest results. In addition, the storage of extra rolls of tissue in such locations is unsightly and detracts from the overall'ple asing decorative scheme of the bathroom or the like.
The present invention enables the housewife to place in the bathroom a roll of tissue in a manner which does not upset the decorative scheme of the bathroom and also does not use valuable space in the medicine cabinet in the bathroom.
It is an object of the present invention 'to provide a stand or holder for storing extra rolls of tissue or the like in a bathroom or the like.
It is another object of the invention to provide an omamental and portable holder for extra rolls of tissue or the like in a bathroom or other room.
It is a further object of the present invention to provide a novel and portable holder for storing extra rolls of toilet tissue in a bathroom, the holder being decorated to harmonize with the bathroom decor.
These and other objects of the invention will become obvious from a study of the following detailed description and drawings wherein like reference numerals refer to like parts throughout the several view and:
BRIEF DESCRIPTION OF THE DRAWINGS FIG. 1 is a partial cross-sectional view in elevation of the holder of the present invention.
FIG. 2 is a perspectiveview in elevation of the holder according to-the presentinvention and showing the decorations thereon with some removed to show the vine.
FIG. 3 is a perspective view in elevation of a holder according to the present invention devoid of decoration.
DETAILED DESCRIPTION OF THE INVENTION Referring to FIG. 1, a tissue holder according to the present invention is indicated generally at H and includes a base 1 made of rubber or the like or any other suitable material. The base I is a cup shaped, hollow element having a planar edge 2 for resting on the floor or other level surface and an integrally formed upstanding cylindrical collar 3 internally threaded at 4. Disposed over the outer surface of base I is a vine or stem 5 held in position on base 1" bymeans of pins or the like 6 extending through the vine'5 and base l/These pins may be further secured in base 1 by means of glue or the like applied at 7. Anelongated upright standard 8 formed of wood or the like is threadably received in upstanding collar 3 and has a ribbon 9 suchas velvet or the like-spirally wound therearound from substantially one end to the other. Ribbon 9 may be secured to standard 8 as by means of glue, thread or the like. A plurality of decorative artificial flowers or the like 10 may be fixed as by glue or the like over the outer surface of spirally wound ribbon 9. A flexible vine 11 having a plurality of decorative flowers l2 fixed thereto is spirally wound around standard 8, preferably in a direction opposite to the direction in which ribbon 9 is wound. Vine 11 and flowers 12 carried thereby are held in position around standard 8 by means of thread, pins, or glue or the likestandard 8 is received through an opening 13 formed in the center of a tray or dish-shaped roll support 14 fixed adjacent the upper end of standard 8 by means of glue or the like -l5. Tray 14 has an annular upwardly has a plurality of beads or the like 21 flowers 24 are secured to vine compressible collar or sleeve 20 'detent means'such as 20 may be J 2 turned flange or edge 16 around which is secured a ribbon 17 by means of glue or the like and to which a plurality of decorative flowers 18 may be fixed as, by glue or pins or the like. A is fixedaround the end of standard 8 in axially spaced relation to tray 14. The collar 20 fixed about the outer surface thereof, said beads 21 being decorative and, at the same time, providing a bearing surface for aiding in slipping a roll of tissue or the like over collar-20 onto stem 9. The extreme outer end of standard 8 may be covered with-ribbon 22 carrying a plurality of decorative beads or the like 23 and having a plurality of decorative flowers 24 fixed in the opening formed thereby. The diameter of standard 8 is slightly less than the diameter of standard of the hollow tube on which a roll of tissue is generally wound and collar 20 is slightly greater in diameter thanthe diameter of said hollow-tube but is yieldable so that a roll of tissue may be inserted thereover. In addition, collarl20 is axially spaced from tray 14 a distance greater than the length of arc of toilet tissue or the like to be stored thereon such that when a roll of tissue is inserted over standard 8 it is contained between collar 20 and tray 14, thereby ensuring against the roll of tissue from being accidentally displaced from standard 8.
In FIG. 2, a roll of tissue T can be seen in position between tray 14 and collar 20. Also, a plurality of large decorative 5 on base I. The flowers used to decorate the base, standard and tray of the present invention may be any well known and commercially available variety and may be selected in colors and designs to harmonize with the decorative scheme of the room in which-the standard is placed.
. While the present invention .has been described with reference to having particular utilityfor storing a roll of toilet tissue thereon, it is to be understood that it could just as easily be used for storing any hollow item such as a roll of paper towels and the like and may be placed in any room of a house, such as the kitchen, bedroom or bathroom.
Moreover,- the various components of which the present invention is comprised may be made from any suitable material such as, for example, the base may be made from wood, metal, plastic or the' like and may be hollow rather than solid; the tray may be made from paper, metal, plastic or any other suitably rigid material; and collar 20 may comprise any suitably yieldable material.
Additionally; as shown in FIG. 3, the tissue holder may be made completely. devoid of any decorative flowers and the like, in which case the invention would comprise a base 1 with an upright standard 8 secured thereto at one end and extending upwardly therefrom to a free endwjth a support means 14 spaced inwardly therefrom and carried thereby. Any suitable provided at the upper free endof the standard; The tissue holder or various parts thereof could be painted or not, as desired.
While a specificexample of the present invention has been described herein, his to be understood that various changes and modifications in the structure may be made without departing from the spirit and scope of the invention.
I claim:

0. a horizontally fixed roll support inwardly of an upper end of the standard a distance greater than the length of the tissue rollto expose an end portion of-the standard,
. The'diameter'of the standard being slightly less than the hollow tube of the tissue roll, and
e. a compressible collar at theupper end of the standard of a size normally greater than the diameter of the hollow tube in the collar's normal condition, said collar being mental threads on its lower end in mating engagement with said threads on said cylindrical portion.
4. A portable holder as in claim 1 wherein said roll support comprises a saucer or dish-shaped roll-supporting tray having an opening formed through the center thereof and received over and secured to said standard.
5. A portable holder as in claim 1 wherein said base is made of resilient material.
