VEHICLE-SPRING.

SPECIFICATION forming part of Letters Patent No. 361,938, dated April 26, 1887.

Application filed November 13, 188 Serial No. 218,812. (No model.)

To all whom it may concern:

Be it known that I, J osnrrr H. GUNN, a citizen of the United States, residing at McLean, in the county of Tompkins and State of New York, have invented certain new and useful Improvements in Vehicle-Springs; and I do hereby declare the following to be a full, clear, and exact description of the invention, such as will enable others skilled in the art to which it appertains to make and use the same.

This invention relates to certain improvements in vehicle-springs; and it consists in the construction and arrangement of parts, as will be hereinafter more fully described, and specifically pointed out in the claims.

The spring is composed of two separate parts, which are secured on extension-arms pivoted to hangers fastened to the side sills of the wagon-body.

In the accompanying drawings, Figure 1 represents a rear perspective view of the improved spring applied to a wagon-body, and Fig. 2 a bottom plan view of the same.

Like letters of reference indicate like parts throughout the several views.

The letter A indicates the lower half, and A the upper half, of the spring. The ends of the two halves of the spring are formed with eyes (L a, by means of which they are secured side by side on extension-arms B B, which are bent, as shown. One end, B, of each arm is pivoted, respectively, to a hanger, G 0, secured to the side sills of the wagon-body.

On one side ofthe upper half of the spring,

on the extension-arms, is secured a sleeve or collar, D. A sleeve, D, serves to separate the two halves of the spring, and the sleeve or collar D, together with the head I) of the extension-arm, serves to hold each half of the spring firmlyin position against lateral movement.

A spring of the peculiar construction and arrangement of parts as herein described presents an elliptic spring of great flexibility, and gives to the vehicle-body an easy and regular motion.

Having thus fully described my invention, what I desire to secure by Letters Patent is-- 1. A vehicle-spring composed of two separate parts, the ends of each part provided with an eye and hinged together on the same plane, the independent separati ng-slecves, the sleeves or collars D, and head 11 of the arm B, whereby each half of the spring is firmly held against lateral movement, substantially as specified.

2. In a vehicle-spring, the combination of the two halves provided with eyes adapted to be secured on extension-arms, the separatingsleeves, the extension-arms pivoted to the hangers, and the hangers for securing the spring to the vehiclebody, substantially as specified.
