Description

United States Patent [54] HOLDERS FOR SAFETY RAZOR BLADE CARRIERS OR OTHER OBJECTS 2 Claims, 6 Drawing Figs.
[52] [1.8. CI. 294/ l [51] Int. Cl. A47f 13/06 [50] Field of Search 294/1; 30/40, 40.1, 90
Primary Examiner-Richard E. Aege rter Assistant Examiner-Douglas D. Watts Attorney-Erwin A. Yaeger ABSTRACT: A holder adapted for the holding of a rotative safety razor blade carrier or other product, said holder being of substantially clamshell shape and it maintains the blade carrier or other article in a groove or channel provided by a pair of jaws. The holder is preferably of one-piece plastic construction and it is provided with a pair of wings connected by a web or spine from which the jaws project. The wings are foldable in one direction to cause them to expose the jaws and the object held thereby and to enable the wings to form a handle for the holder. The wings, when folded in an opposite direction, come together and form a protective cover for the jaws and the object held thereby.
HOLDERS FOR SAFETY RAZOR BLADE CARRIERS OR OTHER OBJECTS This application is a division of my copending application Ser. No. 609,534, filed Jan. 16, 1967, now Pat. No. 3,412,464 granted Nov. 26, l968.
It is an object of the invention to provide a holder usable for numerous purposes, such as for holding a rotative safety razor blade carrier as shown in my copending U.S. Pat. application Ser. No. 609,534 and for'holdingother objects, such as tools, manicuring implements, toilet articles and many other products.
It is an object of the invention to provide a holder of this character and which can be economically manufactured and can be employed as a protective cover for the object held by it. In addition, portions of the holder which form the protective cover can also be used as a handle when the object in the holder is being put to use.
With these and other objects hereinafter set forth in view, I have devised the arrangement of parts to be described and more particularly pointed out in the claims appended hereto.
In the accompanying drawing, wherein an illustrative embodiment of the invention is disclosed,
FIG. 1 is a top plan view of the holder constructed in accordance with the invention, and shown in its open or spread position;
FIG. 2 is an end elevational view of the holder;
FIG. 3 is a side view of the holder as seen from the right of FIG. 1;
FIG. 4 is an enlarged view of FIG. 2 (end) portion of the holder;
FIG. 5 shows the holder in a closed, protective position, and
FIG. 6 shows the holder in its open position wherein the jaws and any object held thereby will be exposed.
Referring to the drawing, the improved holder is shown therein at 1 and the same preferably is of a one-piece construction composed of a suitable plastic material. The holder includes a central web or spine 2 formed with a pair of jaws 3 defining a substantially cylindrical groove or channel 4 between said jaws 3. These jaws 3 may clampingly hold the blade carrier or other object such as indicated at 5 in FIG. 4. If the object 5 to be held by the jaws 3 is not of a cylindrical shape, the inner surface of the jaws 3 may be suitably shaped to conform to the contour of the object 5 to be held between them. A slot opening 6 is provided between the jaws 3 and in this opening is exposed a portion of the object 5 for any use to which it may be put. Any object 5 held between the jaws 3 may, if desired or required for use, he rotative between the jaws 3 to expose it at the slot 6 for any desired purpose.
The inside surface of the jaws 3 may be provided with one or more ribs 8 or the inner surface of the jaws 3 may be otherwise shaped or roughened to firmly hold the desired object 5 between them.
Extending laterally and integrally from the web or spine 2 of the holder are two wings 9. Said wings 9 are concave-convex or of so-called clamshell" formation and they are connected to the spine or web 2 by means of integral thin hinge elements or webs 24 on which the wings 9 are pivotal in a manner to bring them into a position where they cover and protect the jaws 3 and the object held between the jaws 3, as shown in FIG. 5. In this position, any object 5 held in the holder will be covered and protected. The wings 9 may be turned inside out or reversed and when it is desired to put the device to use, the wings 9 are brought into the position shown in FIG. 6, wherein the jaws 3 and the object 5 held thereby are exposed. In this position of the wings 9 the same form a handle by which the holder can be conveniently held and manipulated. In FIG. 6 the object 5 to be held by the jaws 3 has been omitted.
One of the wings 9 has a projecting tab 10 provided at its outer end with a cross piece 11. The other wing 9 has spaced lugs 12 on its end. These cooperating fastening elements enable the wings 9 to be held together in either of the positions shown in FIGS. 5 and 6.
The device is such that when not being used, any object 5 held between the jaws 3 and particularl any article provided with sharp or cutting edges or parts, w I be protected by the wings 9 when they are arranged as in FIG. 5. When the wings 9 are brought to the position shown in FIG. 6, the device may be conveniently held and used in the required manner.
Having thus described a single embodiment of the invention, it is obvious that the same is not to be restricted thereto, but is broad enough to cover all structures coming within the scope of the annexed claims.
1. A holder comprising, a one-piece body having a pair of connected wings, said body including a flexible connecting piece extending between, spacing apart and integrally joining the wings, said connecting piece including a pair of jaws for gripping an object between them, the connecting piece having flexible fold lines located respectively along the sides of the lines to bring them into an overlying position and to direct them away from the jaws and the object held thereby and enable them to form a handle, and said wings being foldable in an opposite direction to enable them to form a protective cover for the jaws and the product.
2. A holder comprising, a one-piece body composed of a flexible material, said body including jaws for embracing a product between them, the jaws being connected by a flexible web which includes a centrally located spine extending across it, wings integrally joined to the spine and extending respectively from the jaws, the wings being concavo-convex and projecting respectively from the opposite sides of the spine, the web including relatively thin parts on which the wings are pivotal in one direction to bring their concave sides toward one another to enable the wings to serve as a handle for the holder, said wings being also foldable on the thin parts of the web in a direction away from the spine when they will serve as g a protective cover for the jaws and the product thereby.
aws, the wings being foldable in one direction along the fold
