GARMENT-SUPPORTER.

SPECIFICATION forming part of Letters Patent No. 360,224, dated March 29, 1887.

To aZZ whom it may concern.-

Be it known that I, MARIANA T. JONES, of Boston, (Jamaica Plain,) in the county of Suffolk and State of Massachusetts, have invented a new and Improved Garment-Supporter, of which the following is a full, clear, and exact description.

This invention relates to garment supporters of the class ordinarily used by ladies and children for the purpose of supporting their hose or stockings, the object of the invention being to provide a means whereby the upper loop, which is usually caught upon the button of the waistband, will be held to said button and prevented from accidental displacement.

To the end named the invention consists of an upper garment-supporter loop provided with a spring strip or loop, as will be hereinafter more fully explained, and specifically pointed out in the claim.

Reference is to be had to the accompanying drawings,forming a part ofthis specification, in which similar figures of reference indicate corresponding parts in all the views.

Figure l is a view of a buttonloop constructed in accordance with the terms of my invention, the spring-loop arranged in connection therewith being shown in the position to which it is moved to prevent the accidental displacement of the button. Fig. 2 is a view similar to that given in Fig. 1, except that the spring-loop is represented as it appears when folded back to a position to allow for the introduction of the button. Fig. 3 is asectional view taken on line a: 00 of Fig. 2. Fig. 4 is a cross-sectional view taken on liney y of Fig. 1.

In the drawings, 10 represents a loop, of the ordinary form, employed to slip over a button. To this loop 10 there is, as usual, secured an elastic webbing, 11, to the lower end of which there is fixed a clip that is arranged for connection with the hose or stocking, as is usual The lower portion of in this class of devices.

aperture, which apertures are arranged to receive the outturned end of a spring loop or bail, 3, as best shown in Fig. 4. The upper ends of the lugs 2 are bentinward, from which construction it will be seen that as the loop or bail 3 is moved to the position in which it is shown in Fig. 1 the tension of the spring will act to hold the loop in said position.

In operation the loop or bail 3 is moved to the position in which it is shown in Fig. 2, when it is desired to connect the loop 10 with the button of a waistband, and after the loop has been so connected with the button theloop or bail 8 is moved to the position in which it is shown in Fig. 1, and will prevent the button from slipping downward into the enlarged portion of the loop 10.

Having thus fully described my invention, I claim as new and desire to secure by Letters Patent- As an improved article of manufacture, a garment-supporter comprising the loop 10, provided with the ears or lugs 2, inclined as shown, and the spring bail or loop pivotally connected with said ears, the sides of the bail being constructed to bear against the inclined ears and hold the bail by friction when it is folded toward the outer end of the loop substantiall y as set forth.
