Abstract

An expanded foam polystyrene carafe including a body having a pouring spout. A lid is frictionally seated for rotation within the open end of the body and has a nose formed with a groove on the underside thereof. The groove provides a pouring passage when the lid nose is aligned with the pitcher pouring spout. Rotation of the lid so that the lid nose and pouring spout are angularly displaced is operative to seal or close the pouring spout.

Claims (4)

1. A carafe comprising a one-piece molded body of generally circular cross sections and made from an expanded foam polystyrene, said body having an open end, a pouring spout formed in said body and terminating at said upper end, a lid including a disk of substantially the same diameter as said upper end of said body and turnably seated in said open end, said disk including a nose adapted to overlie said pouring spout, a groove formed on the underside of said nose and providing a fluid discharge passage through said pouring spout when said nose is aligned therewith and being closed off from communication with said pouring spout when said nose is angularly displaced from alignment with said pouring spout thereby to seal said carafe, said disk includes a downwardly depending annular flange which is snugly received within said opening, said annular flange is formed with an open-ended slot aligned with said groove in said nose, said open-ended slot being vertically spaced from said groove so that a portion of said annular flange depends into said body.
2. The invention as defined in claim 1 wherein said body includes an upper section and a lower section, said upper and lower sections being of different diameters at the juncture thereof to provide an interior stacking rim and an exterior stacking rim.
3. The invention as defined in claim 2, wherein the exterior of the upper section and lower section of said body is formed respectively with a plurality of horizontal bands, said bands gradually decreasing in diameter from the top to the bottom of said body.
4. The invention as defined in claim 2, wherein a handle is formed integral with said upper section, said handle being of substantially T-shaped cross section and said stem of said T extends radially from said body.
