To all whom, it may concern:
' Be it known that I, CHRISTIAN GEORGE SPENGLER, a resident of Hoboken, in the county of Hudson and State of New Jersey,
have invented an Improvement in Syringes,
of which the following is a full, clear, and exact description, reference being made to the accompanying drawings.
My invention relates to syringes, and has Io for its object to provide a syringe which will give a continuous stream of liquid, as will be more fully hereinafter set forth. v In the accompanying drawings, Figure l is a View of my improved syringe, partly in section. Ais the compression-bulb, which is pro- 2o vided with the usual suction-pipe, B. To the end of the bulb opposite that to which the suction-pipe B is attached is secured the cap D, having the tip a, and the passage b therein. Over the tip a is secured one end of the inner tube, E, and surrounding said inner tube, E, is an outcr tube, F, of larger diameter than the tube E, so as to provide an annular chainber, E', between the walls of said inner and outer tubes. 5c One end of the outer tube, F, is drawn over the cap D and securely fastened thereto, so as to close the end of said annular chamber E'. The other end of the inner tube, E, embraces a projection, d, on the inner end of the cap G, said projection being bored out, so as to form a passage, e, therein, which passage has a lateral opening, f. (See Figs. l and 3.) That portion of the inner tube, E, which embraces theproj ection d is cut away opposite the openo ing f, so as to allow the passage of the liquid through it. The outer tube, F, also embraces at its opposite end the cap G, t-hus forming an inclosed annular chamber, E', between the cap D and the cap G. The cap G is provided with the passages g, which lead from the annular chamber E,between the inner and outer tubes,
l into the chamber 71, of the cap G. Said cap G is provided with the usual tip or nozzle, H, of suitable material. The area of the passagez' in the nozzle H is smaller than the area of the 5o opening e, for the purpose which will more fully hereinafter appear.
When the liquid has been drawn by suction into the bulb A, by compressing the latter the liquid is forced through the inner tube, E, and out at the opening f into the annular chamber E', heretofore described, and thence inds its way through the passages g to the nozzle H. As the amount of liquid which is supplied by the compression of the bulb A is 6c greater than that which can pass through the passage i of the nozzle H during the compression ot' the bulb, the annular chamber E will be partly filled with liquid, and at the same time the air is compressed in said chamber to a greater or less extent, which air, during the subsequent suction operation of the bulb sup plies the necessary power to continue the stream.' 4
My improved syringe also possesses the ad- 7o vantage that the annular chamber E can be charged with a quantity of liquid under more or less pressure, and being thus provided with a storage-reservoir, the apparatus can be car- .ried around while in this condition, so as to be ready for immediate use without the necessity of having a vessel at hand containing the liquid to be injected. All that is neces sary in order to'use the syringe while in this I condition is to compress the bulb A,when the 8o liquid will immediately be forced out by the compression of the air in the annular chamber. This improved form of syringe is simple in construction, not liable to get out of order,
and requires no special form of tube for its construction, as has heretofore been the ease.
I do not wish to limit myself to the exact details herein shown and described, as they may be varied without departing from the spirit of my invention. 9o
Having now described my invention, what I claim isl. In a syringe, the combination oi' an inner tube with an outer tube communicating therewith, for the purpose of allowing the liquid to iiow from one oi' said tubes directly into thev other, as and for the purpose set forth'.
2. The combination of an inner tube and an outer tube with a compressioirbulb and a tip or nozzle, H, said inner tube communicating .with the compression-bulb and the annular chamber formed between the inner and outer tubes, and the outer tube communicating with the nozzle, substantially as described.
S. The combination of the cap G, having the opening g and projection d, which projection has a perforated recess, e, therein, with an inner tube, E, tting over said projection and having an opening registering with the recess e, and an outer tube, F, closed at one end and fitting over the cap G at the other, and means for supplying said inncrtube with liquid under pressure, substantially as described.
4. The combination of an outer tube, F, closed at one end and connected to a nozzle at its other end, and an inner tube, E, of smaller diameter, said inner tube being connected at one end with means for supplying liquid unprojection d, which projection has the passageY e therein, said inner tube fitting over said projection d and havinl an opening registering with the passage e, and the outer tube, F, fitting over the cap D, substantially as described.
