Coleman Attorney-Lyon and Lyon ABSTRACT: A change holder to be carried in the pocket or purse which is designed to carry a plurality of coins ranging from one cent to fifty cent pieces. The change holder is formed primarily of two pieces of molded plastic material and has a round shape with the coins carried in compartments inside the circumference of the holder. The coins are retained in these compartments by an elliptical base member and resilient pins which partially block the coin slot entrances.
CHANGE HOLDER SUMMARY OFTHE INVENTION (oins which are loose in the pocket or purse are subject to being lost or dropped when a person is looking for a coin ofa particular value. Also, it is hard to quickly select a coin of any given value out of a pocket or purse full of coins. The present invention therefore seeks to overcome this difficulty by roviding a change holder which is inexpensive to manufacture and from which the user may select any given value coin or multiple thereof.
Referring now to the drawings in which:
FIG 1 is an elevation of the change holder as viewed from the top;
HO 3 is a side elevation of the change holder;
FIG. 5 is a partial elevation of one of the coin pockets taken from lines 5-5 of FIG. 3.
Referring now to the drawing and particularly FIGS. 1 and 2, the change holder is molded of a plastic material in two parts, a body member 1 including a vertical wall In and a top member 2. The body member 1 comprises five (5) coin compartments (designated 3a through 3e), and is generally elliptical in shape to accommodate the five different sized compartments This shape being necessary in order to provide a small change holder that will easily fit in a pocket or purse which will also be strong but not bulky.
At the coin slot entrance to each of the compartments 3 are two resilient pins 4. These pins 4 may be placed upon spaced shoulders 6 in the body member 1 or in the top member 2 or both depending upon the method of manufacture and the material of which these parts are cast. it may also be desirable to cast small openings in the base member I or top member 2 and insert these small pins 4 separately.
Alter the top and base members have been cast they are joined by any suitable method which will be dependent upon the material used or by cholce. such as by gluclng. sonic weld= ing or by PM! which interlock between the top member 2 and base member 1 and cause these two members to snap together.
Coins of different denominations are of different sizes and in order to have a change holder which is absent of springs or other retaining devices a definite ratio of coins must be at tained in order to attain the maximum utility of the Change holder while also attaining the minimum size In order to am complish these goals, the present invention places the compartments 3 for the coins in numerical order, and casts the base member I so that the compartments 3, when full, will allow for even filling of each of said compartments by coins of different sizes,
lclaim:
l. A coin holder executed entirely in plastic, said holder consisting of:
a. a body member (I) including a horizontally extending bottom of elliptical form with a vertical wall (la) extending upwardly therefrom, said wall having indentations formed therein (HO. 2),
b a horizontally extending top member (2) secured to said wall in a plane parallel to said bottom,
c. a plurality ofdifferent sized partially enclosed coin retaining compartments formed within said body member,
cl. said bottom said said top member having outwardly opening curved portions removed therefrom to provide access to the coins held within said compartments,
e. the height of each compartment defined by the space between said bottom and said top member (FIG. 4), f. the depth of each compartment defined by the space between the perimeter of the elliptical bottom and the innermost point of the indentations formed in the wall a plurality of pairs of shoulders (6) located on the vertical wall below said top member,
. an entrance slot for each compartment, the width of each slot being defined by the space between each pair of shoulders,
i. the height of each slot being slightly greater than the thickness of the individual coins to be stacked therein, and
j. resilient retaining plus (4) extending vertically between said shoulders and said top member for rcstrlcting the height of the slot to less than the thickness of the individual coins to be stacked therein.
Claims (1)
1. A coin holder executed entirely in plastic, said holder consisting of: A. A BODY MEMBER (1) INCLUDING A HORIZONTALLY EXTENDING BOTTOM OF ELLIPTICAL FORM WITH A VERTICAL WALL (1A) EXTENDING UPWARDLY THEREFROM, SAID WALL HAVING INDENTATIONS FORMED THEREIN (FIG. 2), b. a horizontally extending top member (2) secured to said wall in a plane parallel to said bottom, c. a plurality of different sized partially enclosed coin retaining compartments formed within said body member, d. said bottom said said top member having outwardly opening curved portions removed therefrom to provide access to the coins held within said compartments, e. the height of each compartment defined by the space between said bottom and said top member (FIG. 4), f. the depth of each compartment defined by the space between the perimeter of the elliptical bottom and the innermost point of the indentations formed in the wall (FIG. 5), g. a plurality of pairs of shoulders (6) located on the vertical wall below said top member, h. an entrance slot for each compartment, the width of each slot being defined by the space between each pair of shoulders, i. the height of each slot being slightly greater than the thickness of the individual coins to be stacked therein, and j. resilient retaining pins (4) extending vertically between said shoulders and said top member for restricting the height of the slot to less than the thickness of the individual coins to be stacked therein.
