The sound wave:l transmitted through the tube I are received most ettectively and, without lons of in- Lensity,are concentrated upon thediaphragm.
As shown in Fig. 3, the speaking-tube I may have a branch ear-tube, le, attached to il., so that the user may speak and hear at the same time.
For the purposes of a call,au ordinary elec` tric call-bell connected to the conducting-wire may be used, orin some cases a whistle within the speaking-tube will be suicient.
This form oftelephone may be placed within a building as well as outside ofthe same.
In my Patent No. 356,594, granted January 25, 18S?, I have shown a telephone ofeonstruetion similar to that herein described,and having a weight, suspended from it by flexible cords. This combination I do not claim in the present application; nor do I broadly claim the combination ofthe flexible cords and telephone withoutthe support.

l. A telephone-case. in combination with the flexible. cords or wires attached to each side of said case and toa suitable supporti, substantially as setf'orth.
2. The elongated telephone-case C, in eombination with the cords or wires attached to each side of said case, extending along the as set forth.
3. The combination, substantially as and for the purpose set forth, ot' the case C, the diaphragm D within said case, the conductingwire A, the dexible connect-ions L L, attached to each side of the case and each attached to the outside ofa building, and a tube connecting the interior of the ease to the interior of the building.
