Description

J. B. ROSE.
WATCH MAKEBS TOOL.
(No Model.)
No. 358,885. Patented Ma.1-.'8, 1887.
WIN/8858: 44 A ATTORNEY UNITED STATES PATENT OFFICE.
JAMES B. ROSE, OF CANTON, OHIO.
WATCH-MAKERS TOOL.
SPECIFICATION forming part of Letters Patent No. 358,885, dated March 8, 1887.
Application filed October 27, 1886. Serial No. 217,373. (No model.)
To aZZ whom it may concern.-
Be it known that I, J AMES B. RosE, a citizen of the United States, residing at Canton, in the county of Stark and State of Ohio, have invented certain new and useful Improvements in VVatch-Makers Tools; and I do hereby declare that the following is a full, clear, and exact description of the same, reference being had to the annexed drawings, making a part of this specification, and to the letters or figures of reference marked thereon, in which- Figure l is a perspective View, showing a balance-wheel of a watch properly attached or clamped. Fig. 2 is a side elevation. Fig. 3 shows detached views of difi'erent parts.
The present invention has relation to watch- :nakers tools; and its nature consist-s in the different parts and combination of parts hereinafter described, and particularly pointed out in the claims.
Similar letters of reference indicate corresponding parts in all the figures of the drawings.
In the accompanying drawings, A represents the clamping-frame, which may be substantially of the form shown. The top or upper part of this clamping-frame is provided with the opening or space a, which is for the purpose hereinafter described.
To the bottom or lower portion of the clamping-frame A is attached the shank B; or, if desired, this shank may be made integral with the clamping-frame. The shank B is provided with a screwthreaded aperture, which is for the purpose of securing the screw-threaded portion of the handle 0.
\Vithin the clamping-frame A is located the adj Listing-block D, and for the purpose of holding this adj usting-block in proper position the plates I) b are provided, which plates embrace the sides of the clamping-frame A, as shown in Fig. 1.
To the top or upper end of the handle 0 is attached the screw 6, said screw being located as shown in Fig. 3, and is for the purpose of retaining the adj usting-block D as the handle 0 is lowered. This screw e should be provided with a left-hand thread, so as to prevent said screw from becoming detached in use. The
screw 6 is provided with the shoulder or smooth portion d, which forms a journal or bearing. The head is countersunk, as shown in Fig. 3, so as not to interfere with the pivots of wheels, and for the purpose of providing a place for the pivots of wheels theadj usting-block D is provided with the recess or opening E, which recess or opening may be substantially of the form shown in the drawings.
The top or upper portion of the adjustingblock D is provided with the recess f, which is for the purpose of preventing a wheel or other article from falling or passing by the ad justing-block D, and at the same time locating the article designed to be placed in the clamping-frame A at or about the place desired.
In use the adjusting-block D is lowered, so as to provide a space between the top or upper side of said adj usting-block D and the bot tom or under side of the upper portion of the clamping-frame A. \Vheu a wheel or other article designed to be worked upon is placed as shown in Fig. l and securely clamped by means of the handle 0, the opening or space a is provided, so as not to interfere with the pivots of wheels. It will be seen that by my peculiar arrangement I am enabled to securely hold in proper position a watch-wheel or other article, and at the same time hold it in such a manner that it will not be sprung or twisted out of shape, and in repairing the balancewvheels of watches both portions of a wheel will beheld in their normal positions, thereby preventing the possibility of getting a balancewheel out of true.
For the purpose of placing the adjustingblock D within the clamping-frame A, one of the plates 1) is detachable, so that the adj usting-block D may be passed in from one side when the plate is securely attached to said adj usting-block by means of the screws 9.
Having fully described myinvention, what I claim as new, and desire to secure by Letters Patent, is-
1. The combination of the clamping-frame A, having the opening or space a, with the ad justing-block D, having the opening or space E, and the handle 0, substantially as and for the purpose set forth.
In testimony that I claim the above I have 10 hereunto subscribed my name in the presence of two witnesses.
JAMES B. ROSE.
