HAiVlE-RING.
SPECIFICATIQN'forming part of Letters Patent No. 358,7e2, dated March 1, 1887.
Application filed December 31, 1886. Serial No. 223,070. (No model.)
To aZZ whom, it may concern.-
Be it known that I, LLEWELLYN E. J ONES, a citizen of the United States, residing at Syracuse, in the county of Onondaga and State 5 of New York, have invented certain new and useful Improvements in Hame-Rings; and I do hereby declare the following to be a full, clear, and exact description of the. invention, such as will enable others skilled in the art to [O which it appertains to make and use the same.
My invention relates to hams-rings; and it consists in the construction and arrangement of the parts of the same, which will be more fully hereinafter described, and pointed outin I5 the claim.
The essential feature of my invention isthe formation of a hame-ring having an apertured lug constructed integral with or secured to the outer periphery thereof, forming no interzo nal projection into the body of the rin The objects of my invention are to provide hame-rings which are simple and effective in their construction, strong and durable, readily attached to any form of hame, easily under- 2 stood, cheaply manufactured, and positive in their desired use. I attain these objects by the form of hame-ring illustrated in the accompanying drawings, wherein like letters of reference indicate similar parts in the several views, and in which- Figure 1 is a side elevation of a portion of a hame with my improved ring shown as attached thereto. Fig. 2 is a plan view of the ring and a portion of the staple on a somewhat enlarged scale. Fig. 3 is a view similar to Fig. 2, showing a modified form of staple.
Fig. 4 is a longitudinal vertical section on the line X X of Fig.2. Fig. 5 is a longitudinal vertical section on the line X X of Fig. 3.
A indicates a hame of an ordinary form of construction havinga suitable back iron, a, secured thereto.
0 represents the hame-ring, which may be of any preferred form of construction or configuration, and is provided with alug, C, having an aperture, 0, passing therethrough. This lug C may be formed integral with the ring C, as shown in Figs. 3 and 5, and the aperture c cored or drilled through the same; or, as shown in Figs. 2 and 4., a flange may beformed with the ring and thencebent into form around a staple, D, which will have been previously placed therein. The said lug Q may also be formed separate and apart from the ring 0, and afterward secured thereto in any suitable 5 5 manner. Thelug O, as-illustratedin the drawings, is shown as of cylindrical configuration; but any other form may be used.
\Vhen the lug is formed as shown in Figs.
3 and 5, a staple, D, of two sections, may be 50 used, the said parts being inserted in the aper ture c, and when secured to the hame A are retained in securement with the said lug in a firm and rigid manner, at the same time allow ing of sulficient play of the said rin The rings when applied with either form of staple are given sufficient play to render them practicable, and are constructed of metal applicable for the purpose, which may be suitably embellished by plating, or other ornamentation.
The convenience and utility of my improved hame-ring is evident, and need not be enlarged upon here.
It is obvious that slightvariations in the construction and arrangement of the parts .of my improved ring may be made and substituted for those shown and described without in the least departing from the nature and principle of my invention.
Having thus described my inventiomwhat I claim as new, and desire to secure by Letters Patent, is
As an improved article of manufacture, a hame-ring having an aperturcd lug on its ex- 8 ternal portion formed integral with or secured thereto, and a suitable staple engaging with the apertured portion of said lug and adapted to be secured to the hame, substantially as described. 0
In testimony whereof I affix my signature in presence of two witnesses.
LLEWELLYN E. JONES.
