SHOW- STAND.
SPECIFICATION orming part of Letters Patent No, 358,475, dated March 1, 1857.
Application filed January 4, 188,7. Serin-l No. 223,351.
T0 all whom it may concern:
Be it known that I, JOSEPH R. PALMEN- BERG, a citizen of the'United States, residing at New York, in the county and State of New York, have invented a new and Improved Show-Stand, of which the following is a specifloat-ion. A
This invention relates to a stand for displaying drygoods, and so constructed that the standard or support is located, not in the rear of the stand, as heretofore generally constructed, but in the center thereof. In this way the weight is evenly distributed in the front and rear of the standard.
The invention consists in the various features of improvement hereinafter more fully pointed out.
In the accompanying drawings, Figure l represents a perspective View of iny improved show-stand. Fig. 2 is a detailed vertical section through one of the caps c.
The letter a represents a standard project` ing upwardly. from foot b. The standard a is surrounded by three (more or less) sockets, c, made in the form of a cross-that is, composed of a pair of tubes crossing at right angles. These sockets may be clamped in place by set-screws d.
Into the lateral arms of sockets c there enter rods e, as shown, and these rods are surrounded at their ends by caps e', clamped in place by set-screws g. Each of the caps e is provided at its upper end With two parallelv lugs, c", placed at right angles to such cap, as shown.
Between every pair of lugs e there is in- (No model.)
troduced a rack, f, which is held in place by a pin, and which projects an equal distance to the front and rear of rod e and extendsat right angles to such rod, as shown. The racks f may be set at any desired inclination by loosening screws g and turning caps e.
Into the teeth of the racks f there are placed the parallel bars 7L, one in front and one in the rear of upright c, and adapted to support the goods to be displayed.
It will be seen that by this construction one half of the supporting-surface is placed in the front and the other half is placed Ain the rear of standard a, and thus the proper equilibrium is maintained.
If the4 racks f are inclined, the bars h may be shifted to maintain the equilibrium.
l. The combination of standard c and foot b with the cross-shaped sockets c, surrounding standard a and having clamp-screws d, and with the rods e, entering sockets c and projecting laterally from standard a, and with the racksf, supported by rods e and projecting to the front and rear of such rods, substantially as specified.
2. The combination of standard a, foot b, socket c, and rods e. with the caps e', having lugs c and screws g, aud with the racks f, secured to such lugs and carrying bars h, substantially as specified.
- J. R. PALMENBERG.
