SPECIFICATION forming part of Letters Patent No. 358,184, dated February 22,1887.

Be itknown that I, JOHN BABoooK, of Walton, in the county of Delaware and State of NewYork, have invented anew and Improved Plow, of which the following is a full, clear, and exact description.

The object of rny invention is to provide a plow adapted for penetrating and breaking hard earth; and the invention consists of the construction of the landside or penetrating bar as hereinafter described and securing the same to the standard.

Reference is to be had to the accompanying drawings, forming a part of this specification, in which similar letters of reference indicate corresponding parts in all the gures.

Figure l is a side elevation of my new plow. Figs. 2 and 3 show modified forms of the plowpoint, and Fig. 4 is a perspective of still another form of point.

A represents the standard, and B the beam, of the plow cast in one piece. Attached to the standard are the handles O and point D. The point D is a plate of steel, beveled at d el both at top and bottoni to form a drooping point, d2. Back of the bevel el the point is straight, as shown at a, to prevent the point from entering the ground too far, and through the point are formed numerous openings, c, for the passage of bolts f, for securing the point to the standard. ln some cases the openings c will be made in the form of vertical slots,as shown in Figs. 2 and 3, so the whole point may be set at an angle on the standard A, and in some cases, when these slots are used, the whole lower edge of the point will be made straight, as shown in Fig. 3. In other cases,if itshould be desired to spread the dirt, Ishall upset the beveled edge d, asshown in Fig. 4, to form the side ianges, i i.

Having thus described my invention, what I claim as new, and desire to secure by Letters Patent, is

A plow consisting of the standard A, beam B, and thin narrow bar or landside D, made integral with a drooping sharp penetrating point, cl2, and bolted directly to the side of the standard A by bolts f, substantially as described.
