Abstract

THE COMB CONTROLS THE LENGTH OF HAIRCUT SO AS TO CUT THE HAIR TO UNIFORM LENGTH AT A GRADUAL TAPER. THE COMB IS FIXED ON A PIN OR BAR WHICH IS JOURNALLED IN A FRAME. THE FRAME HAS PARALLEL SIDES ALONG EACH END OF THE COMB PARALLEL WITH THE TINES OF THE COMB, AND A CROSS-CONNECTING MEMBER ADJACENT THE BAR. THE TOP EDGES OF THE SIDES ARE INCLINED ACCORDING TO THE DESIRED TAPER OF HAIRCUTTING. AN ABUTMENT TONGUE ON THE BAR IS EXTENDED SO AS TO ABUT AGAINST THE ADJACENT CROSS-MEMBER OF THE FRAME AND TO HOLD THE COMB RAISED AT THE LEVEL OF THE TOP EDGES OF THE SIDES. EARS EXTENDED FROM THE SIDES OF THE PARALLEL FRAME MEMBERS ARE FINGER RESTS WHEN THE BAR IS MANIPULATED FOR HOLDING THE FRAME AGAINST THE HEAD.

Cl. 13245 6 Claims ABSTRACT OF THE DISCLOSURE The comb controls the length of haircut so as to cut the hair to uniform length at a gradual taper.
BACKGROUND OF THE INVENTION This invention has as its primary object to eliminate the disadvantage and difliculty in cutting the hair to uniform length and taper. This object is accomplished by supporting the comb on a rotatable or adjustable member on a frame in such a manner that it can pick up the hair and it can be swung to a predetermined height and taper for the cutting of the hair projecting above the comb and by providing support for the shears or scissors in alignment with the taper, thereby preventing the irregular cutting of the hair by laymen or even by barbers.
DESCRIPTION OF DRAWINGS FIG. 1 is a perspective view showing the comb in position to pick up the hair.
FIG. 2 is a perspective view of the comb in elevated position.
FIG. 3 is a fragmental top plan view of the comb in lifted position.
FIG. 4 is a top plan view of the comb in pick-up position.
FIG. 5 is a cross-sectional view of the comb in pick-up position.
FIG. 6 is a cross-sectional view of the comb in elevated position.
DETAILED DESCRIPTION In the illustrative embodiment of the invention, a comb 1 is fixed on a cylindrical bar 2 so that the tines 3 of the comb are spaced apart and furnish an open space between their tips. The bar 2 is journalled in parallel bracket members 4 of a frame which extend from a connecting cross-member 6. From the brackets 4 extend sides 7 along each side of the comb 1 and parallel with the tines 3.
An abutment tongue 8 extends from the secured end of the comb 1 and beyond the bar 2 at such angle of incline that the tongue 8 abuts a recessed portion 9 of the cross-frame member 6 in the elevated position of the comb 1 as shown in FIG. 2 and FIG. 6. A finger rest OPERATION In operation the person places the forefinger on one of the rests 11 and grips the bar between the thumb and the index finger of the same hand, and exerts a turning force to hold the comb 1 in the position shown in FIG. 1 and then by twisting toward the head the comb is pressed against the head and moved so as to pick up the hair. Then by twisting the bar 2 the comb 1 is raised into the position shown on FIG. 2 and is held in alignment with the control edges 12 of the sides 7. The shears or scissors are rested on the control edges 12 and cut the hair above the comb 1 to the predetermined length and at the controlled taper. For different tapers, frames with suitably angled top edges are used and the angle of the abutment tongue 8 is made corresponding to the angle of the top control edge. The angle of the abutment tongue 8 relatively to the cross member 6 is such as to align the tines 3 of the comb 1 with the controlling top edges 12 of the sides 7 in the raised position of the comb 1. The spacing between the sides 7 is preferably limitedto the average width of the haircutting shears, and the spacing is preferably narrow to render the taper control more firm.
I claim:
1. A controlled comb for haircutting, comprising,
a frame,
a comb pivoted on the frame,
an element extended from the pivot of the comb for manipulation of the comb for turning the comb from a depressed position for picking up hair into a raised position for holding the picked up hair for cutting above the comb,
and means to predetermine the angle of the raised position of the comb thereby to control the length and taper of the haircut.
2. The invention defined in claim 1 and finger rests on said frame adjacent said turning element for holding the frame against the head.
3. The invention defined in claim 1 and parallel sides on said frame extending along the opposite sides of the comb,
the top edges of said sides diverging from the respective bottom edges in alignment with the comb in the raised position and forming rests for the haircutting tool, thereby to control the length and taper of haircutting.
4. The invention defined in claim 3, and.
said turning element being a rod journalled in said frame, and forming the base for said tines.
5. The invention defined in claim 1, and said means to predetermine the angle of the comb being a tongue extened from the secured end of said comb and abutting against the adjacent part of said frame in the raised position of the comb.
6. The invention defined in claim 5 and said adjacent part of said frame being a cross-member between said sides adjacent the pivoted end of the comb and adjacent said turning member, and
said tongue being at an angle to abut said cross-member at said predetermined raised position of the comb.
