ABSTRACT: A display having a set of sectionalized support- Field of ing standards and a set of supported panels adapted to be con- 20 (Y); 52/481 (OXF), 478, 483, 479, 281, 282, nected together to form the display by a two-part pressure en- 38; 256/27, 24, 25, 28, 59, 62, 40/125, gaged separable fastener means, the pieces in each set havin bonded thereto one of the separable fastener parts.
, wsi iiiuii H wiimmmlwi lalhillill liil.i.mlml.-.hl;
The present invention relates generally to display structures and is particularly directed to a knock down display consisting of two sets of structural members which may be readily stored in a relatively flat, compact condition; the members of each set having one cooperating element of a pressure-engaged, separable fastener means for holding the members together in a unitary, form-retaining display condition.
An object of the invention is to provide a set of supporting standards and a set of supported panels adapted to be arranged and separably fastened together to provide a display having a relatively large upstanding area that may serve as a backdrop for merchandise put on display at shows or exhibits, as a divider wall, or as a boothin convention halls, and the like.
Another object of the invention is to provide a plurality of panels and sectionalized standards each having a cooperating part of a separable fastener means bonded thereto in a manner such that the standards and panels may be readily assembled into a stabilized display in a minimum .of time and in assembled condition providing angular adjustmentof each tier of display panels around their respective standards.
.A further object of the invention, is to provide a sturdy display made of lightweight, form-retaining material which can be transported in knocked down condition for assembly without tools by unskilled people at a display site.
Other objects and advantages of the invention will become apparent from the following specification taken in conjunction with the accompanying drawings, which illustrate a preferred embodiment thereof.
In the drawings:
FIG. 1 is a perspective view of my knock down display shown in one of its many erected, operative positions.
FIG. 2 is a top plan view of the display shown in FIG. 1.
FIG. 3 is a section taken on line 3-3 of FIG. 1.
FIG. 4 is a greatly enlarged view showing a detail of my invention.
FIG. 5 is a perspective view of a section of the sectionalized standard for my display.
FIG. 6 is a fragmental, plan view of a panel for the display.
With reference to FIGS. 1 and 2 of the drawings, the numeral indicates a number of laterally spaced-apart standards having their lower ends supported upon a flat surface, such as a floor 11. These standards are tubular in form and preferably have cylindrical exterior surfaces; adjacent standards supporting between them a plurality of vertically spaced-apart panels 12. The major faces of the panels may have an overall color or may be differently colored or carry legends or advertising material or other desirable indicia; it being also contemplated that lights, picture screens and shelving or other supports may be mounted on them for the advertisement and display of merchandise; 7
As best shown in FIGS. 3 and 5 each standard 10 comprises a number of standard sections 13 asse'mbled together in endto-end relationship by means of telescoping connections 14 to provide a sectionalized standard 10 that is readily assembled or disassembled for-storage and which may be extended to any desirable height.
The exterior cylindrical surface of each standard section 13 has a strip 15 of the first cooperable element of a pressure-engaged, separable fastener means encircling and bonded to it. The strip is preferably applied in helical form to the section and its exterior face has many minute hooks projecting therefrom.
The upstanding side portions on 'one major face of each panel 12 has a strip 17 bonded to it, each strip being the second cooperable element of a pressure-engaged, separable fastener means.
The strips 17 have many minute loops projecting therefrom adapted to be engaged by the hooks in the first cooperable element. The preferred separable fastener means for my knock down display is a product manufactured by Velcro Corp. of
New York, N.Y. and distributed under the trademark VEL- CR0 and which comprises two mating strips, the hooks of one strip engaging the loops of the other strip when the strips are pressed together to create a separable fastener that has great tenacity to resist disengagement of the mating strips. The strips are disengaged by simply peeling them apart by running the hand, finger, or a flat object between the engaged strips.
It will therefore be understood with reference to FIGS. 1 and 2 that my knock down display can be erected to any height by means of the sets of standard sections 13 provided to form the sectionalized standards 10 and the sets of panels 12; the length dimension of the standard sections being substantially the same as the width dimension of the panels. The initial display assembly step is effected by pressing together the separable fastener element 14 on each side of a panel 12 to the separable fastener element 15 of a standard section 13 and then progressively building the display by securing other panels 12 to the standards 10; adjacent panels being secured to opposite sides of the standards and also preferably slightly overlapped at their common edges; the adjacent corners of rectangularly-shaped panels being formed on the diagonal, as at 18 (FIG. 6), so that a comer overlap of diagonally positioned, adjacent panels may be readily effected.
As indicated in FIG. 4 once a panel or a tier of panels has been secured to a standard, it becomes articulated thereon by the separable fastener means and may be swung in either direction around the standard as the separable fastener means will permit rolling movement between the panel and standard without decreasing its hold-power thus making it possible to laterally swing the assembled panel or tier of panels around the standards to obtain the proper angular relationship of the panel and standards for stability and final adjustment of the display.
It will be understood that my display with the two sets of standard sections and panels may be erected in many different configurations including zigzag designs, straight designs, the V-shaped configuration shown in FIG. 1 and 2 of the drawing, or these sets could be made up in booth forms, as desired. Also the configurations of the panels 12 may vary and their dimensions changed to suit the artistic effect desired for a particular display.
I claim:
1. In a knock down display anumber of longitudinally spaced-apart standards each having a rounded shape in lateral section, upstanding panels each extending between adjacent standards and aligned in vertical and-the longitudinal rows. adjacent panels in the vertical and longitudinal rows being disposed on opposite sides of each standard throughout the assembled display, and a pressure-engaged, separable fastener means having a first cooperable fastener element secured around the external face of each standard, and a second cooperable fastener element secured to the opposed end pora tions of a major face of each panel.
2. The knock down display set forth in claim 1 wherein one element of the separable fastener means has a plurality of hooks and the other element has a plurality of loops.
3. The knock down display set forth in claim 1 wherein the marginal portions of adjacent panels in the vertical and the longitudinal rows overlap throughout the display.
4. The knock down display set forth in claim 3 wherein the corners of the panels have diagonal configurations.
5. The knock down display set forth in claim I wherein the first cooperable fastener element is a strip spirally secured to each standard.
