UNITED STATES PATE'I rricn,
STELLA O. BROI'VN, OF BATTLE CREEK, MICHIGAN.
COMBINED SLEEVE-HOLDER AND FINGER-GUARD.
SPECIFICATION forming part of Letters Patent No. 356,679,dated January 25, 1887.
Application filed July 26, 1886. Serial No. 208,060. (No model.)
To all whom it may concern.-
Be it known that I, STELLA 0. BROWN, a citizen of the United States, residing at Battle Creek, in the county of Calhoun and State of Michigamhaveinvented certain new and useful Improvements in a Combined Sleeve-Holder and Finger-Guard for Children; and I do hereby declare that the following is a full, clear, and exact description of the same, reference being bad to the annexed drawing, making a part of this specification, and to the letters and figures of reference marked thereon.
My invention is a combined sleeve-holder and finger-guard for children, and has for its object to provide a simple and effective means for holding sleeves down in place while dressing, and it is especially adapted for children and infants. lVhen dressing a small child or infant, it is well known that they are wholly incapable of holding their sleeves down until they become of a certain age; also, there is an inclination to spread the fingers, and consequently they are frequently caught and turned back and badly hurt, this being frequently the result while dressing them. These difficulties are entirely overcome by my invention, which consists of a pocket or mitt to inclose the hand and a fastening device connected thereto for attachment to the sleeve or other object, as will be hereinafter described and claimed.
In the accompanying drawing, which represents a perspective view of my invention, A designates what 1 term a dressing mitt or pocket, in which the hand of the child or infantis placed, which effectually prevents the fingers from spreading while dressing it. This mitt or pocket may be of any suitable design,
and made of leather, cloth, or any other suit able material, and has attached to it any of the usual forms of fastening devices or spring 0 clips, as shown at B, and the device may be used for invalids or sick people with equal advantage. Y
I am aware that previous to my invention it has been proposed to provide a coat-sleeve with a permanent mitt attachment, and that various clasp devices have been provided with finger-loops, so that the shirt-sleeve of the operator may be retained in position during'the period the coat-sleeve is being drawn on.
My invention will be readily distinguished from the above, in that I provide an article complete in itself, and specially designed for young children, to not only hold their sleeves down when the coat is being drawn on, but prevent any liability of their fingers becoming spread.
Having now fully described my invention, what I claim as new, and desire to secure by Letters Patent, is
In a combined sleeve-holder and finger-guard for children, the combination, with a mitt or pocket, of a spring-clip or fastening device for attachment to the sleeve or other object when the mitt incases the hand, substantially as set forth.
In testimonythat I claim the above I have hereunto subscribed my name in the presence of two witnesses.
, STELLA 0. BROWN.
