middle of a curved spring,`H, the rod at its rear end being providedwith a screw, d, on which a nut, e, is screwed in order to connect the spring with the bar G. The said spring frame A. Furthermore, the bar G has two long rods, I I, applied to it in the same manner as the rod c is applied to the `spring H, the rods I Ibeing arranged with respect to the Vbar G as seen-in the drawings.` Those ends of the rods I I which are farthest from the bar G are hooked (see Fig. 5, which is a side view cranks, df d', whichare formed on'- ashaft-lever, K, arranged and shaped as shown in Figs. 1, 2, 8, and 4. This leverbar is provided with journals f f, which extend in opposite directions from it and enter boxes g g, supported by the frame A. At itsmiddle the said shaft-y lever `is ailixed to a sectoral eccentric, L, which to the platen or follower C, and havinga lever, N, extended from it, as shown in the drawings. The shaftlever is also furnished with two cams or wipers, O P, one of which, during a depression of the two eccentrics, is intended to act against two projections or arms, R S, (extended from the slide E, as shown in Fig, 3,) and so as to produce such a longitudinal movement of `thesaid slide as will force the discharger Cinto the mold far enough to produce anexpulsion of a brick after it may have been pressed. i M
In operating with this machine the brick shown Vat .B should be laid edgewise on a shelf, s, arranged in front of the mold. This having been done, the lever N is to be taken hold of and borne downward, so as toelevate the two eccentrics. While the eccentricsare being so moved the shaft-lever Kwill be turned in its bearings, and will cause its cranks and their rods I I to operate like Vtoggles and in a manner to draw the cross-bar G a short ydistance toward the mold, the spring H being at the same time sprung toward the frame. The combined action of the eccentrics, the cranks, and the rods of the rocker lever or shaft will causethe platen to be forced against the brick,
backward `fromit and into and through the `so as to crowd it into the mold and firmly condense it therein. This having been done, the
at lits two ends bears against the posts of the of one of them) and catch or hook upon two gears into anothersuch eccentric,` M, applied hand-lever is next to be raised, so as to depress the eccentrics, in which case the brick andthe platen will be simultaneously expelled from the mold by the retreat or rearward movement of the slide or carriage E. At the moment of greatest pressure of the brick the two bars tu of the eccentrics are brought nearly or quite into horizontal positions, in which case the cranks of the lever-shaft will also be turned down horizontally. The spring H, on the motion of the lever N being reversed, will aid in effecting such a movement of the lever and in relieving the brick from the strain upon it. The action of the spring greatly facilitates the upward movement of the lever.
le claim as the invention of the said JO= snm B. WILSON- 1. The combination of the cranked lever or shaft K and the two connecting-rods I'I with the two sectoral togglesL M and the crossbar G, the whole being applied so as to operate with the follower and the discharger of a brickpress, substantially as specified.
2. The combination of the spring H with the bar G, the rods I I, the cranked shaft K, and the sectoral toggles L M, when employed for operating the follower or platen of a brickpress, as specified.
In testimony whereof We have hereunto set our signatures.
