Abstract

A DRAWING DEVICE MADE UP OF TWO SIDE MEMBERS AND TWO END MEMBERS INTEGRALLY CONNECTED TOGETHER FORMING AN OPEN FRAME. THE SIDE MEMBERS EACH HAVE A TRACKWAY SUPPORTED ON THEM WHICH IS APPROXIMATELY HALF THE THICKNESS OF THE SIDE MEMBERS AND THE SAME THICKNESS AS THE END MEMBERS. A SLIDE, WHICH FUNCTIONS AS A T-SQUARE AND IS GENERALLY RECTANGULAR IN CROSS SECTION, HAS ITS ENDS RESTING ON THE TRACKWAYS SO THAT THE SLIDE CAN BE MOVED FROM ONE END TO THE OTHER. THE SLIDE IS PROVIDED WITH A SLOT

ALONG ITS CENTER FROM ONE SIDE TO THE OTHER INTO WHICH THE POINT OF THE PENCIL OF THE DRAFTSMAN CAN BE INSERTED.

Description

Feb. 23, 1971 B. D. FELTENBERGER DRAWING DEVICE Filed June 12, 1969 FIG.I
5x005 D. fit-.1 112mg ERGE R United States Patent Office Patented Feb. 23, 1971 3,564,719 DRAWING DEVICE ABSTRACT OF THE DISCLOSURE A drawing device made up of two side members and two end members integrally connected together forming an open frame. The side members each have a trackway supported on them which is approximately half the thickness of the side members and the same thickness as the end members. A slide, which functions as a T-square and is generally rectangular in cross section, has its ends resting on the trackways so that the slide can be moved from one end to the other. The slide is provided with a slot along its center from one side to the other into which the point of the pencil of the draftsman can be inserted.
STATEMENT OF INVENTION This invention relates to drawing instruments and, more particularly, to a drawing frame suitable to be supported on a supporting surface for drawing lines at right angles to each other.
OBJECTS OF THE INVENTION DESCRIPTION OF THE DRAWINGS FIG. 1 is a top view of the drawing frame shown supported on a clipboard according to the invention.
FIG. 2 is a longitudinal cross sectional view of the drawing frame taken on line 2-2 of FIG. 1.
DETAILED DESCRIPTION OF THE DRAWINGS Now with more particular reference to the drawings, the drawing frame shown is generally supported on a clipboard 10. The clipboard has a clip 6 which clamps over the side frame 12. The drawing frame has side frames 1 and 12 integrally connected together by end frames 3 and 4. The side frames have holes 5 therein through which pins may be inserted to attach them to the clipboard in case that the clip 6 is not used. The slide 7 has its ends supported on the trackways 8 and 9. The trackways 8 and 9 are approximately half the thickness of the side frames 1 and 12 and the trackways support the ends of the slide 7. Slide 7 has a slot 19 extending approximately from one side thereof to the other into which a pencil may be inserted so that the point of the pencil may be moved laterally to draw horizontal lines and the pencil may be held against the slide to move vertically to draw vertical lines.
The slide 7 can have various template-like openings cut in it to provide templates to accommodate the particular type of drafting being done by the draftsman using the frame.
The foregoing specification sets forth the invention in its preferred practical forms but the structure shown is capable of modification within a range of equivalents without departing from the invention which is to be understood is broadly novel as is commensurate with the appended claim.
The embodiments of the invention in which an exclusive property or privilege is claimed are defined as follows:
1. In combination a drawing frame and a clipboard comprising:
a clipboard,
an open frame made up of a first side member and a second side member and two end members integrally molded together forming an open frame,
said clipboard having a clip engaging said side member clamping said frame to said clipboard,
said frame being substantially the same size as said clipboard,
a first trackway on said first side member and a second trackway on said second side member,
said trackways being on the side of said side members adjacent each other,
said trackways being formed by a shoulder on each said side member substantially thinner than the other part of said side members,
said end members being substantially the same thickness as said trackways, and
a slide member having its ends supported on said trackways and movable over said trackways and said end members,
said slide member has a longitudinal slot extending substantially from one end thereof to the other and disposed at approximately the center of said slide member, and one of said side members having a scale thereon adjacent the trackway and said slide member having a scale adjacent the slot and edge thereof.
