Description

(No Model.)
D. EATON.
LADDER HOOK.
INVENTOR 2 ATTORNEY WITNESSES OvvvM iINiTsn STATES PATENT O FICE.
DAVID EATON, OF ROCHESTER; VERMONT.
LADDER-HOOK.
SPECIFICATION forming part. of Letters Patent No. 356,353, dated January 18, 1887.
application filed November 23, ISi-fi. Serial No. 219,651. (No model.)
To aZZ whom it may concern.-
Be it known that I, DAVID EATON, a citizen of the United States, residing at Rochester, in the county of Windsor and State of Vermont, have invented certain new and useful Improvements in Ladder-Hooks; and I do declare the following to be a full, clear, and exact description of the invention, such as will enable others skilled in the art to which it appertains to make and use the same, reference being bad to the accompanyingdrawings, and to the letters and figures of reference marked thereon, which form a part of this specification.
This invention relates to improvements in hooks for ladders; and it consists in the novel construction and arrangement of parts, as will be hereinafter fully explained, and particularly pointed out in the appended claims.
' The annexed drawings, to which reference is made, fully illustrate my invention, in whicl1 Figure 1 represents a vertical sectional view of my device; Fig. 2, a side view.'
Referring by letter to the accompanying drawings, A designates the hook, consisting of three parts, a, b, and c. The portion (6 is provided with the hook d, and the shank portion 6 of which is screw threaded and passes hrough the head f of the portion 0, which head is internally threaded to engage the threads on the shank aforesaid. This head portion is provided with. an extension-arm, g, which is of hook form, as shown at h, and is provided with spurs i, similar to the spurs 5 j on the portion 72, which latter consists of an arc-shaped head, which is swiveled to the lower end of the shank, as shown in the drawings. I
It will be seen by reference to the annexed drawings and by the above description that my device can be used for a double purpose, one of which is to secure the hook to the top round of a ladder by clamping said round between the parts b and h by turning the hook d, which serves as a lever, thus screwing the shank through the head-block f and forcing the clamping arc-shaped block toward the hook h, when the spurs will bite the round of the ladder and firmly hold said hook or device thereto, and the clamping-block I), being swiveled to the screw-shank, is prevented from turning therewith in the operation of clamping the hook to the ladder; and should the device be desired for suspending hose, paintbuckets, &c., from the ladder, the device is clamped to any one of the rounds of the ladder in a reverse position to that above described, viz: The hook d, instead of being above the head-blockf, is below it, and can be used for suspending articles, as well as serving to suspend a scaffold for workmen; and it is simple in construction, can be applied to any ladder, durable, and cheap to manufacture.
Having described my invention, what I claim, and desire to secure by Letters Patent, 1s
1. The ladder-hook herein described, consisting of the hook proper,A, having the male screw-threads, the clamp arc-shaped block swiveled to said hook and provided with the spursj, the portion 0, consisting of the femalethreaded portion or headf, the arm 9, and hook h, having spurs formed entire, as shown and described.
2 The combination, in aladder-hook, of the portions a, b, and 0, the-whole constructed as shown, described, and for the purpose set forth.
In testimony whereof I affix my signature in presence of two witnesses.
DAVID EATON.
