STATES PATENT Orrrce.
\VILLIAM BLACKBURN AND SAMUEL BLACKBURN, OF CLECKHEATON, COUNTY OF YORK, ENGLAND.
TtGHTENER FOR SPINDLE-BANDS OF SPINNING-MACHINES.
$PECIPICATION forming part of Letters Patent No. 356,239, dated January 18, 1887.
Application tiled May 173, 1886. Serial No. 202,069. (No model.) Patented in England March 20, 1885, No. 3,605.
To all whom it may concern:
Be it k uown that we,W1LLIAM BLACKBURN and SAMUEL BLACKBURN, subjects of the Queen of Great Britain, residing at Cleckheaton, in the county of York, England, have invented new and useful Improvements in Tighteners for Spindle-Bands of Spinning- Machines, (for which we obtained a patent in Great Britain, No. 3,605, March 20, 1885,) of which the following is a specification.
The object of this invention is to give along traverse and so use long bobbins; also, to insure a regular twist in spinning and twisting fibers, and to take up the bands automatically as the tubes of the spindles rise and fall; also, to de liver the bands onto the whirls in a direct straight line. XVe attain these objects by mechanism illustrated in the accompanying drawings, in which Figure lshowsa portion of aspinning-frame in elevation and partlyiu section with ourimprovements attached. Figs. 2 and 3 show details of self-lubricating pulleys.
WVe employ two loose pulleys, A A, for each spindle B, between the tin cylinder Dand the whirls E, the bands running under and over Each set of the pulleys is carried by a forked lever, F, which is pivoted on a second pivoted lever, H,which is carried by a bar or rail, J. The other end of the fork-lever, F, carries a compensatingweight, C, adjustable by the slot K and screw G, and acting automatically to regulate the balance of the fork and pulleys. The other end of the second pivoted lever, H, is formed with a balance-weight at its end M, acting automatically-when the lifter-rail I and tube ofthe spindle are in the center of their lift. The pulleys A take up the slack of the bands B, when moved nearer the tin cylinder D, by means of the second pivoted lever, H. When a band breaks the lever H moves forward by reason ofits weighted end M, as shown in dotted lines, and is prevented from coming in contact with the cylinder by pressure of the flat bar J within a notch, L, formed in said lever.
The pulleys A A are self-lubricating, the studs N being hollow and split or perforated,
and contain a fibrous material, I which is u saturated with lubricant. The fork and pulleys may be pivoted on a shaft, if preferred.
What we claim as the invention, and desire to secure by Letters Patent, is
The combination of the spindles B B, cylinder D, bands R, rails J .T, the weightedlevers H H, engaging said rails, the forked leversF F, pivoted on the levers H H and provided with adjustable weights C C, and the pulleys A A, carried by the levers F F, substantially as described.
