INVENTOR K/Ml/(O HAM/4014 ATTORNEY :PA-TENTEUIJANZSIQYI 3.557.805 sum 3 or 3 INVENTOR lf/Ml/(O HAM/104 ATTORNEY APPARATUS FOR FACILITATING TO DELINEATE THE DESIRED PATTERNS OF EYEBROWS The present invention relates to an apparatus for facilitating to pencil the desired patterns of the eyebrows with an eyebrow pencil, and more particularly the apparatus for facilitating to delineate the eyebrows with an eyebrow pencil slidably moved along an upper and a lower bn'm of an eyebrow-shaped piece thereof.
It is difficult for a woman to pencil her eyebrows with an eyebrow pencil by herself, and it is most difficult to pencil her left eyebrow into the desired pattern to be exactly symmetrical with that of the right eyebrow. There have been proposed several kinds of apparatus for pencilling the eyebrows and also the devices for facilitating to easily pencil the eyebrows. According to one of the ordinary apparatus, for instance, two eyebrow-shaped slits are cut out through a long sheet which is held around a head of the woman by means of a headband secured to each end portion of the sheet, while the eyebrow pencil is slidably moved along the brim of each slit to draw the desired outline of the eyebrow. The distance between these slits is not adjustable so that the distance between the right and left patterns of the eyebrows thus pencilled may not be adjusted in accordance with the variation of the distance between the right and left eyebrows of the user of such apparatus. It is necessary, therefore, to prepare a plurality of different kinds of the apparatus each having a different distance between the right and left slits. The pattern of the slit of the ordinary apparatus can not be changed in accordance with the pattern of the desired eyebrow, thus necessitating the production of a plurality of different kinds of the apparatus for pencilling the eyebrows.
Accordingly, it is necessary for the manufacturer to make a number of the eyebrow pencilling apparatus of every conceivable size and shape so that the increase of the production cost is moderate, while the user needs to prepare many apparatus each having the desired size and shape in addition to the one which is most suitable for the eyebrows of said user. The ordinary apparatus for facilitating to pencil the eyebrows is long so that it is inconvenient for portable use.
The principal object of the present invention, therefore, is to provide an apparatus for facilitating to delineate the desired patterns of the eyebrows with an eyebrow pencil, which apparatus can be properly and snugly fitted on or around the eyebrow portions of any distance of the user by transversely shifiing the eyebrow-shaped pieces engaged with a headband.
Another object of this-invention is to provide an apparatus comprising a pair of the modern, excellent eyebrow-shaped pieces whereby the desired patterns of the right and left eyebrows can be symmetrically and correctly pencilled at either proper position.
Still another object of this invention is to provide an apparatus comprising a headband consisting of a cloth ribbon and an elastic cord whereby the eyebrow-shaped pieces can be held by said cord with a suitable pressure on or around the eyebrow portions so that said pieces neither slip down nor rotate by means of the elastic cord fitted in one of the grooves, thus facilitating to easily pencil the right and left eyebrows with symmetry.

Still another peculiar significant object of this invention is to provide an apparatus for facilitating to pencil the desired patterns of the eyebrows wherein the eyebrow-shaped pieces can be, if necessary, exchanged with the other desired pieces.
These together with other objects and advantages which will become subsequently apparent reside in the details of construction and operation as r acre fully hereinafter described and claimed, reference being had to the accompanying drawings forming a part hereof, wherein like numerals refer to like parts throughoutQand in which:
FIG. I is a perspective view of the apparatus for facilitating to pencil the eyebrows incorporating the present invention;

FIG. 7 is a schematically shown front view of the eyebrowshaped pieces shown in FIG. 1, in which the upper brims of the pieces are fitted onto the upper edge portions of the eyebrows;
paratus whereby a plurality of forms of the desired patterns of the eyebrows can be easily pencilled by means of a few kinds of the eyebrow-shaped pieces, that is, an upper arched brim thereof is made different from a lower arched brim so as to pencil two eyebrows by said pieces, and the right and left eyebrow-shaped pieces each having a compensating curved face along its back portion can be interchanged with each other in order to pencil further twice as many patterns as the ordinary one can pencil.
A further object of this invention is to provide an apparatus comprising the right and left eyebrow-shaped pieces both detachably engaged with an elastic cord, whereby a number of the desired ascending and descending patterns of the eyebrows can be properly pencilled by means of slidably rotating said pieces at a nipper of each piece as its center.
FIG. 8 is a similar schematically shown front view of the eyebrow-shaped pieces of FIG. 1, in which the lower brims of both pieces are snugly fitted onto the upper edge portions of the eyebrows;
FIG. 9 is a similar front view of FIG. 7, schematically shown, in which both eyebrow-shaped pieces are-interchanged with each other and their upper brims are snugly fitted on the upper edge portions of both eyebrows;
FIG. 10 is a similar front view of FIG. 8, schematically shown, in which both eyebrow-shaped pieces are similarly interchanged with each other and their lower brims are snugly fitted onto the upper edge portions of the eyebrows;
FIG. 11 is a rear view of each eyebrow-shaped piece shown in FIG. 1;
FIG. 12 is a perspective view from the rear of each eyebrowshaped piece shown in FIG. 1; and
FIG. 13 is a section through the left piece shown in FIG. 1 tak e n on line XII I-Xl ll of that figure.
Referring now more specifically to the drawings, reference numeral 1 has been used to generally designate a left eyebrowshaped piece made of a transparent curved plastic correspondiiig'ib' the left eyebrow, while reference numeral 1' designates a right eyebrow-shaped piece made of a transparently curved plastic, which is entirely symmetrical with the piece 1. An end of a cloth ribbon 17 inserted through a metal fitting l6 and also a catch 18 is secured to said fitting 16 to form a small ring or loop so that the length of said cloth ribbon 17 may be easily adjusted by means of sliding said metal fitting 16 along said cloth ribbon 17. One end of an elastic cord 13 is secured to another end of the cloth ribbon 17, while a metallic element 14 is engaged with another end of said elastic cord 13, and an end portion of the element 14 is bent to form a hooked portion 15. The hook-shaped portion 15 is engaged with the catch 18 to form a large loop or a headband by the cloth ribbon 17 and the elastic cord 13.
The eyebrow-shaped pieces 1 and 1 are symmetrically engaged with the elastic cord 13 of the ribbon cloth 17 to canstitute the apparatus of this invention. As shown in FIG. 6, txc apparatus is tied around the head of the woman to snugly lit the pieces I and 1 onto the eyebrow portions of the forehead so that the desired patterns of the eyebrows may be pencilled along these pieces.
In FIG. 1, an approximate two-thirds point of an upper arched brim 2 from an inside end of the curved eyebrowshaped piece 1 is shaped to form an apex thereof, while the same point of a lower brim 3 as that of the upper arched brim 2 is made an apex of an obtuse angle of said lower brim 3. The arched brim 2 and the lower brim 3 of the eyebrow-shaped piece 1 are respectively used as a ruler for pencilling an upper edge line of the eyebrow. The upper edge lines of the beautiful and modern eyebrows can be pencilled with the eyebrow pencil which is slidably moved along the upper and lower brims 2 and 3 of the eyebrow-shaped piece 1. FIGS. 7 and 8 show schematically that the eyebrow-shaped pieces 1 and 1 are snugly fitted on or above the real eyebrows respectively, wherein the eyebrow-shaped piece 1 is the transparent curved plastic corresponding to the left eyebrow, so that the left eyebrow can be easily pencilled by means of looking at the real eyebrow through the transparent piece 1.
As shown in FIGS. 1, 2, 3, 4 and 13, a nipper 4 is projectingly provided at an approximate central portion of a surface of the piece 1, and as particularly shown in FIG. 4, a rectangular opening 5 for the elastic cord 13 is made through a base portion of the nipper 4. Both transverse side faces of said rectangular opening 5 are gradually narrowed toward its central point to fonn X-shaped verges 30 and 31, said grooves 8, 9, 10, 11 and 12 are transversely, radially provided on the surface of the eyebrow-shaped piece 1 in such a manner that these grooves may intersect with each other at the central point of the opening 5, while a slit 6 is cut through the base portion of the nipper 4 from the side of the lower brim 3 into the rectangular opening 5 with the'same level as the piece 1 so as to connect said slit 6 with the opening 5 so that the elastic cord 13 may be freely inserted into said opening 5.
The elastic cord 13 is inserted through the slit 6 into the rectangular opening 5 of the piece 1 and is also inserted into one of the grooves 8, 9, 10, 11 and 12 so that the elastic cord 13 and the X-shaped verges 30 and 31 are made into contact with each other at the extreme narrow portion of said X- shaped verges 30 and 31, thus freely and slidabl'y'rotating said piece on the left eyebrow portion of the forehead.
The eyebrow-shaped piece 1 is slightly back curved into both longitudinal and transverse directions so that said piece 1 may be snugly made in contact with the real eyebrow portion ofthe forehead.
An approximate two-thirds point of an upper arched brim 2 from an inside end of the curved eyebrow-shaped piece 1' for the right eyebrow is shaped to form an apex thereof, while the same point of a lower brim 3 as that of the upper brim 2 is made an apex of said lower brim 3 having a blunt angle. The upper brim 2 and the lower brim 3' of the eyebrow-shaped piece 1' are respectively used as a ruler for pencilling an upper edge line of the eyebrow. The beautiful and modern eyebrows can be symmetrically delineated with the eyebrow pencil which is slidably moved along the upper and lower brims 2' and 3 of the eyebrow-shaped piece 1.
In FIGS. 7 and 8, the eyebrow-shaped pieces 1 and 1' are snugly fitted on or above the eyebrows respectively, in which the eyebrow-shaped piece 1 is a transparent curved plastic corresponding to the right eyebrow so that the right eyebrow can be easily pencilled by means of looking at the real eyebrow through the transparent piece 1. In FIGS. 1, 2', 3and 5, a nipper 4 is projectingly provided at an approximate central portion of a surface of the piece 1', an opening 5' for the elastic cord 13 is made through a base portion of the nipper 4.
Both transverse side faces of said rectangular opening 5 are gradually narrowed toward its central point to form Xshaped verges 30' and 31', and grooves 8', 9, 10', 11 and 12 are transversely, radially provided on the surface of the eyebrowshaped piece 1 in such a manner that these grooves may intersect with each other at a central point of theopening 5', while a slit 6' is cut through the base portion of the nipper 4 from the lower brim 3 to the rectangular opening 5' with the same level as the piece 1 so as to connect said slit 6' with'the opening 5' so that the elastic cord 13' may be freely inserted into said opening 5.
The elastic cord 13 is inserted through the slit 6' into the rectangular opening 5 of the piece 1' and is also inserted into one of the grooves 8' 9', 10', 11 and 12' so that the elastic cord 13 and the X-shaped verges 30' and 31' are made into contact with each other at the extreme narrow portion of said X-shaped verges 30 and 31, thus freely and slidably rotating the piece 1' on the right eyebrow portion of the forehead.
The eyebrow-shaped piece 1 is slightly back curved into both longitudinal and transverse directions so that said piece 1' may be snugly made in contact with the real eyebrow portion of the forehead. I
As already explained, the left eyebrow-shaped piece land the right eyebrow-shaped piece 1 are symmetrically engaged with the elastic cord 13, by which the pieces 1 and l are properly and snugly pressed onto the real eyebrows by the elasticity of said cord 13 so that these pieces do not slip down even if the eyebrows are pencilled with the eyebrow pencil along the upper brims 2 and 2 of these pieces respectively. In FIG. 1, the elastic cord 13'is inserted into the grooves 10' and 10 of the pieces 1 and 1 respectively so as not to rotate these pieces carelessly. The elastic cord 13 is straightly arranged in parallel with the left and right eyes so that the left and right eyebrows may be pencilled with symmetry.
When the elastic cord 13 is inserted into the next grooves 9' and 9 of the pieces 1' and 1 respectively, the left piece 1 is slightly rotated clockwise, while the right piece 1' is slightly rotated counterclockwise so that the descending eyebrows each having a slight descending degree with respect to that of the former eyebrow.
When the elastic cord 13 is inserted into the grooves 8' and 8 of the pieces 1' and 1 respectively, the descending eyebrows each having a sharp descending degree with respect to that of the former eyebrow. On the other hand, the elastic cord 13 is inserted into the grooves 1 1', 11 or 12', 12 of the pieces 1"and 1 respectively enables to pencil the ascending eyebrows.
When the elastic cord 13 is slenderly extended, it can be easily taken off the slits 6' and 6 of the base portions of the nippers 4' and 4 so that the eyebrow-shaped pieces 1" and 1 can be substituted by the other pieces having the other patterns. In FIGS. 2 and 3 are shown the other embodiment of the eyebrow-shaped pieces to be substituted, wherein like nu-- merals refer to like parts of the pieces. The upper arched brims 2, 2 and the lower brims 3, 3 of the eyebrow-shaped pieces 1' and 1 shown respectively in FIGS. 2 and 3 are different from thoseshown in FIG. 1. The central portions of the haIf-egg=shaped upper brims 2' and 2 of the pieces 1 and 1 are the apexes thereof as shown in-FIG. 2, that is, the inner half portions of the upper brims 2 and 2 are sharply inclined, while the outer half portions thereof are slightly inclined, and the lower brims 3 and 3 of the pieces 1' and 1 are half-eggshaped to have the gently sloping arched lines.
The upper brims 2 and 2 of the pieces I and 1 shown in FIG. 3 are isosceles triangled with the central portions as their apexes, and more particularly, the inner half portions ofthe upper brims 2 and 2 are nearly linear, while the outer half portions thereof are arched lines, and the lower brims 3' and 3 of the pieces 1 and l are half-egg-shaped to have the gently sloping lines.
The other patterns of the upper brims 2' and 2 and the lower brims 3 and'3 of the pieces 1 and 1 are preferably adapted for the apparatris of this invention, while if necessary the grooves provided on the surfaces of the pieces are either increased or decreased. i
In FIG. 7, it is illustrated that the eyebrow-shaped pieces 1 and 1 are fitted above the eyebrows, along the upper brims 2 and 2 of which the eyebrows are pencilled with the eyebrow pencil, while it is illustrated in FIG. 8 that eyebrow-shaped pieces 1 and l are fitted onto the real eyebrows so that the upper lines of the eyebrows may be delineated with the eyebrow pencil along the lower brims 3 and 3 of these pieces 1 and l respectivelyi Accordingly, the eyebrow delineating or pencilling will be greatly facilitated by use of the apparatus of the present invention.
It is schematically shown in FIG. 9 that the eyebrow-shaped pieces 1' and 1 shown in FIG. 7 are interchanged with each other to arrange the pieces 1 and l and the upper lines of the eyebrows can be delineated with the eyebrow pencil moved along the upper brims 2 and 2' of the pieces 1 and 1. It is also schematically shown in FIG. 10 that the eyebrow-shaped pieces 1' and 1 shown in FIG. 8 are interchanged with each other to arrange the pieces 1 and l' and the upper lines of the eyebrows can be delineated with the eyebrow pencil moved along the lower brims 3 and 3' of the pieces 1 and 1.
It should be understood that the curves of the right and left eyebrow portions of the forehead are symmetrically different from each other so that the eyebrow-shaped piece made to fit on the left eyebrow portion can not be fitted on the right eyebrow portion by itself. In order to overcome such difficulty, centrally projecting ridge lines 19 and 19' are made on the back faces of the pieces 1 and 1' respectively as shown in FIGS. 11 and 12, said ridge lines 19 and 19 being gradually curved and arched toward both end portions of these pieces 1 and 1'. As particularly shown in FIG. 12, an upper curved compensating face 20 and the lower curved compensating face 21 are divided by the centrally projecting line 19. An angle formed by the upper curved compensating face 20 and the lower curved compensating face 21 are not appreciated around the central portion of the back face of the eyebrow-shaped piece 1 and said central portion is gradually curved backward so that the piece 1 may be snugly fitted onto the eyebrow portion of the forehead. The central line 19 is gradually projected at the one-fourth portion from each end portion toward said end portion of the piece 1 to form a ridge respectively.
As shown in FIG. 13, a section on the line XIIIXIII of the eyebrowshaped piece 1 is clearly illustrated, in which a section, each, of the upper curved compensating face 20 and of the lower curved compensating face 21 as well as the centrally projecting ridge line 19 are shown, i.e. the ridge line 19 around the central portion on the back face is not great, and it is gradually protruded toward the both end portions of the piece 1 to form the great ridge.
As already explained, the back face of the eyebrow-shaped piece 1' is symmetrically the same as that of the eyebrowshaped piece 1 so that these pieces 1 and 1 interchangeably fitted on either right or left eyebrow portion of the forehead so that four desired patterns may be delineated by a pair of the eyebrow-shaped pieces 1 and 1'.
The foregoing is considered as illustrative only of the principles of the invention. Further, since numerous modifications and changes will readily occur to those skilled in the art, it is not desired to limit the invention to the exact construction and operation shown and described, and accordingly all suitable modifications and equivalents may be resorted to. falling within the scope of the invention as claimed.
