Description

` TOYLZZ whom it Qiitcty concern:
`Be it knownthatl, JAMES MCNAMEE, of Easton, inthe county of Northampton and State "of Fennsylvania, `haveinvented` anew l and usefulRegisterland Indicator forBary y Rooms; and I` `dolhereby declare` that the foll lowing is a full,` clear, and exact description i otthesame, reference being hadtotlie accom y partying drawings, makingapartof this speci- `eation, in which-7` h h "l Figure luisafront `view of my invention. h i Fig. 2` is abacklview of the same. Fig.'V 3 is `a central transverse vertical section .of the same` h A V h i Similar lettersl of'yreference indicate correspending parts in the several ligures.
The object of this invention is to obtain a device by `which thenumber ci" drinksmdealt y `out ata barymayberegistered and counted bythe proprietonthereby serving as a cheek tothe barkeeper, through whose hands the money passes into the till. f i n t s The invention consists in the employment or useofa box `provided with aballlreeeptaele andhaving aser-ies of compartments in it y which arenumbered and provided witha tilting bottom placedover 'adrawer which receives theballsinserted'in the `compartments by the customers and which indicate the number cf drinks that havefbeendealt out by the y s barkeeper, all being arranged in the manner hereinafter deseribedtoei'ect the desired end. i `To enable those skilled in the art to fully understandandconstructmyinvention, I will proceed to describe it.

PATENT OFFICE.
JAMEsMcNAMnE, oFnAsroN,.PENNsYLvANIA, AssrGNon To HiMsELF r ANDHENRYR smeken, or sAMn PLAGE.. Y s v t L if lMPnovEM l-:N'rl IN REGIS-rens fFoR BAB- Roo Ms.
ation formingpart ofLelters Patent No. 35,566, dated June 10, 1862.
\ Thehc1es-catthe front side of the to2 A The compartments B are provided with a tilting bottom, D', which maybe formed by having it hung on pivots at its ends, one pivot extending through the side of the box and provided with a knob, d, .for the convenience of turning or tiltingtlle bottoni. Directly underneath the compartments Btherc is a i G, is attached to the front side of the box, or
placed `conveniently to it, to hold balls or marbles H. A customer on approaching the bar takes a ballfor marble and deposits it in the hole C, which is under the number corresponding with the number of drinks he orders. For
instance, if he desires one drink for himself, he places aball or marble in the hole 1. If two drinks are desired-one for himselfand another for afriend-he places two balls or mar These balls or i marbles roll down the inclined bottoms b into bles inthe hole 2, and so on.
the compartments Rand are visible to the barkeeper through'V the glass a, and the drinks are dealt out accordingly. The barkeeper on furnishing the drinks must see that the proper number of balls or marbles aredeposited in the proper compartment, and after each customer has been waited upon the bottom D is 'tilted and the balls or marbles drop into the drawer E. The proprietor on closing the bar counts the balls or marbles in the drawer E, the number of which will of course indicate the amount of money that should be in the till.
It will be seen that the barkeeper will bei collusion between the barkeeper and the customers; but as bar-rooms are generally very public places and all have more or less strange or transient customers in them at all times ever, the drawer E would require to be partitioned off into compartments corresponding with the number ofcompartments B, so that the balls placed in the numbered compartments B may be kept separate in the drawer E.
Having thus described my invention, what I claim as new, and desire to secure by Letters Patent, is-
l. The box A, provided with the numbered compartments B, having a tilting or movable bottom, D', in connection with the drawer E, also placed in the box A and arranged with the compartments B, substantial] y as and for the purpose specied.
2. The passages D, numbered, as shown, at the front of the box A, and provided with the inclined bottoms b, when said passages are used in connection with the vnumbered compartments B, tilting or moving bottom D', and drawer E, for the purpose herein set forth.
