- Shank ABSTRACT In a driving-in tool with piston rod, having a pivoting guide piece detachable from a front part of said tool, said guide piece having a body member, the general shape of which is at least partly cylindrical having two symmetrical flats, each being limited, at its end which is turned backwards, after assembling, by a trunnioning boss, whereas the part of the driving-in tool designed to receive the pivoting guide piece is extended, forwards, by two longitudinal arms diametrically opposite to each other and each showing an inner longitudinal recess running parallel to the axis and the cross section of which corresponds, with a small clearance, to the cross section of one of the aforesaid bosses, recess to which is tangentially connected a transverse recess of identical cross section which opens out aside of the arm, the outlets of both transverse recesses being located on the same longitudinal side of the two arms.
- the present invention relates to a dismountable pivoting fastener guide piece for an explosively actuated fastener driving tool having a piston rod, or pusher, described in the application Ser. No. 531,965 of Mar. 4, i966 and new US. Pat. No. 3,409,]97.
- the purpose of this invention is to allow, without requiring any kind of tool the disassembling of the guide piece from the tool. Another guide piece may then be mounted in the tool and guide piece accommodating fasteners having different dimensions.
- the dismountable pivoting fastener guide piece includes a substantially cylindrical body member having two symmetrical and diametrical opposed flat faces of limited size.
- the bearing part of the driving tool designed to receive the guide piece has two longitudinal arms diametrically opposite each other.
- Each arm has an inner longitudinal channel shaped recess extending parallel to the bearing part axis.
- the cross section of the arms corresponds substantially to the cross section of a flange on the body member.
- a transverse channel shaped recess opening is provided in each arm.
- FIG. 1 is a perspective view of the pivoting guide piece and the bearing part of a driving too].
- FIG. 2 is a side view with partial section of the elements shown in FIG. 1, before assembling the joint.
- FIG. 3 is a view in partial and transverse section of the supporting piece and the guide piece which has just been inserted into the said supporting piece.
- FIG. 4 is a similar view to FIG. 2, the joint being set up.
- FIG. 5 is a similar view to that of FIG. 4, during pivoting motion of the guide piece in the supporting piece.
- FIG. 6 is a front view of an alternative embodiment of the guide piece body member.
- FIG. 7 is a view similar to the preceding one of another embodiment of the guide piece.
- the bearing part for the guide piece is constituted by a sleeve 1.
- the sleeve is extended by two longitudinal parallel arms 2a and 2b diametrically opposite to each other. These arms each have a longitudinal channel shaped recess 3 of circular cross section corresponding to the inner cylindrical surface la of the sleeve 1.
- Each recess 3 extends up to an abutment shoulder 4 formed by a transverse face 5.
- Each surface 5 is in a single chordal plane.
- each recess 3 is formed a transverse recess 6 the bottom of which is tangent to the one of the recesses 3, the outlets of both recesses 6 being located on the same side of the arms 2a, 2b.
- the guide piece 10 which supports, among others, the guid- DRIVING-IN ing barrel 11, includes a body 12 of a generally cylindrical shape having two symmetrical flat faces 13 separated from each other by a distance which is equal, except for a small clearance, to the space separating the plane surfaces 5 which are provided at the ends of arms 2a, 212.
- Each flat face l3 is limited in the axial direction, by a part 14 of a greater diameter than the body 11 and, by a transverse flange 15 the contour of which (external edge) fits within the inner cylindrical area 1a of sleeve 1.
- both elements are presented each to the other in the position shown by FIG. 2, from which position both elements 10 and l are fitted into each other by making the two flat faces 13 pass between the plane surfaces 5 of arms 2a, 2b until both flanges l5 lie above the outlets of the two transverse recesses 6.
- Disassembly of elements 1 and 10 can be achieved by carrying out the operations reverse to those above described.
- the guide plug designated in its whole by 16 only differs from the previous one 10 in that its breadth has been reduced to a minimum value.
- the variant shown on FIG. 7 includes a guide piece 17 of a type called cant guide piece.
- a sleeve shaped bearing part comprising, a substantially cylindrical body member having two symmetrical and diametrically opposed flat faces, flange parts on said body member adapted to form a transverse pivoting axis for said body member, two longitudinal arms on said sleeve shaped bearing part diametrically opposite each other, each arm having an inner longitudinal channel shaped recess extending parallel to the bearing part axis the cross section thereof corresponding substantially to the cross section of one of said flange parts, and each arm having a transverse channel shaped recess opening merging with one of said longitudinal recesses.
- a dismountable pivotal fastener guide piece for an explosively actuated fastener driving tool having a piston rod and a sleeve shaped bearing part according to claim 1 wherein the flange parts are formed as circumferentially extending ribs arranged perpendicular to the axis of the guide piece.
