TOOL-GRINDLNG MACHINE.
SECIFICATION forming part of Letters Patent No. 355,414, dated January 4, 1887.

Beit known that I, J ULIUs EDUARD REI- NECKER, residing at Chemnitz, in the Empire of Germany, have invented a new and Improved Tool-Grinding Machine, of which the following specification is a full, clear, and exact description.
My invention relates to a tool-grinding machine; and it` consists in the arrangement of the support Yfor the tool, whereby the edges to be ground are made to receive the required degree of inclination.

The cutting tool or wheel is attached to the end of a spindle, 1u, and receives from the same its usual revolutions. This cutting-wheel consists of a ring, r, provided either with a back, r', through which it is attached to the spindle, or it may be secured to the same in any other manner. Y

through the bolt i, in the upper end of which a pin, k, being shaped eccentric at the part k', (see Fig. 7,) where it Works in the bolt i, is iitted. By turning thisv pin 7s either in one or the other direction the support u will be clamped securely to the support h or loosened, so as to be able to be moved in any desired position. The boltz' works in a longitudinal groove in the support 7L.
The upper surface of the support u is inclined at an angle corresponding to the necessary inclination of the surface to be ground Upon this surface a support, o, is iitted, carrying a boss, o, in which a sleeve, n, is supported, capable of turning freely in the same, and secured in 5o said boss o by nuts o2. (See Fig. 4.)
' The support ois secured to the support u through the bolt Z, fastened in the support '10,- and provided with the nut m. Around the bolt Z the support 0 can be turned, and is then 55 firmly secured in the desired position by said nutl m. In the sleeve n a bolt, p, is fitted, upon the outer end ot' which the milling tool or wheel, c, to be ground is supported. Through thebolt lo a pin, q, screwed into the end of the sleeve a is arranged, the head of which forces the collar p tight against the hub of the wheel o, and thus secures the same tight upon the bolt p, at the same time allowing said wheel toturn with the boltp. The upper part ofthe bolt Z carries an arm,'t, in the end of which a spring-bolt, c, (see Figs. `l and 6,)
is arranged, bearing upon the top of the wheel o, so as to hold the same in any desired position.
By the above-described arrangement of the supports the desired and necessary inclination of the surface, d, to be ground, Figs. 2 and 3, to the cutting-edge eZ rZ will always be insured, and as the center line ofthe b olt p is parallel with the inclined surface on top of support u only the turning of the support 0 ninetyfdegrees around the bolt Z, when operating on straddle milling-cutters, will insure the same inclination of the grinding-surface to the cutting-edge on all three sides of the cutter without any alteration to the machine.
When operating on broaches, straight or tapering reamers, centers for supporting this class of work must-be substituted for the boss 8 5 o on the support o. By the arrangement of a ring or hollow cylinder, r, in place of a solid emery-wheel, andeniploying its face as the grinding-surface, I prevent the wearing of ridges in the grinding-surface, as every part 9o of the same will in nearly every case be e1nployed and used, and all danger will be prevented from coming in contact with an adjoining cutting-surface of the tool under op` eration. 9 5
