Description

Jan. 5, 1971 R. FISCHER DRYSHAVER Filed Oct. 16, 1968 INVENTOR Rica/sap FIsm EIL WJIIQMI ff/73 ATTORN EY United States Patent O 3,552,005 DRYSHAVER Richard Fischer, Frankfurt am Main, Germany, assignor to Braun Aktiengesellschaft, Frankfurt am Main, Germany Filed Oct. 16, 1968, Ser. No. 767,988 Claims priority, application Germany, Oct. 21, 1967, 1,553,663 Int. Cl. B26b 19/38 US. CI. 30-34 6 Claims ABSTRACT OF THE DISCLOSURE A dryshaver has a two-part housing one part of which constitutes a shaving head. The housing has two side faces and two end faces. At least the side faces are provided with handgrip portions in form of respective semispherical depressions.
BACKGROUND OF THE INVENTION The present invention relates to dryshavers, and more particularly to the hand grip portions provided on such dryshavers.
Dryshavers are provided on their housing with handgrip portions at those parts where the fingers and thumb of the hand of the user grip the housing. The purpose of this is to prevent accidental slipping of the apparatus from the hand of the user, for instance if the user is momentarily distracted and does not grip the apparatus attentively. However, the very purpose of these handgrip portions presents a problem in that, while the handgrip portions provide increased friction between the fingers and thumb of the user and the housing of the apparatus, they prevent ready turning of the apparatus about a trans verse axis. This, on the other hand, is desirable for obtaining simple, effortless and optimum shaving results.
It is the purpose of the present invention to overcome this disadvantage.
SUMMARY OF THE INVENTION In accordance with one feature of my invention I provide a dryshaver comprising a two-part housing having a pair of side faces and a pair of end faces, one part of the housing constituting the shaving head. The faces of at least one of the pairs of faces, advantageously the side faces, are provided with my improved handgrip portions which are constituted in form of semi-spherical depres- SlOl'lS.
With this construction I obtain a dual advantage in that, with the fingers and thumb of the hand of a user respectively located in one of the semi-spherical depressions, the slipping of the apparatus from the hand of the user is reliably prevented, while at the same time I make it possible to in effect swivel the apparatus readily between the fingers and the thumb without any necessity for turning of the wrist.
I have found it to be advantageous if the semi-spherical depressions provided on the side faces have a diameter corresponding substantially to the width of the respective side face and if the centers of the depressions substantially coincide with the center of gravity of the apparatus. Under certain circumstances, particularly if the shaving head is of the type which is removable from the remainder of the apparatus for cleaning and the like, I have found it to be advantageous to also provide the end faces With similar semi-spherical depressions located in those portions of the end faces which are associated with the shaving head. This makes it possible to reliably remove the shaving head for cleaning and to reliably grip the shaving head while cleaning proceeds.
3,552,005 Patented Jan. 5,, 1971 ice BRIEF DESCRIPTION OF THE DRAWING FIG. 1 illustrates in partial section a dryshaver according to my invention and in a side-elevational view; and FIG. 2 is a view taken on the line 11-11 of FIG. 1.
DESCRIPTION OF THE PREFERRED EMBODIMENTS Discussing now the drawing in detail it will be seen that my dryshaver in this embodiment consists of a twopart housing, the main housing portion being identified with reference numeral 1 and the housing portion constituting the shaving head being identified with reference numeral 2. The shaving head 2 is connected in usual manner with the main housing portion 1 and is provided with an aperture shaving foil 3. Provided at one end face of the housing is a switch for starting and stopping the drive.
In accordance with my embodiment I provide at least the side faces of the housing portion 1 with handgrip portions in form of semi-spherical depressions 5, one on each side face, and advantageously the centers of these depressions 5 coincide at least substantially with the center of gravity of the apparatus, thus making it possible to hold the apparatus more readily and more effortlessly. If the fingers of the hand of the user are placed into one of these depressions 5 with the thumb placed in the other, the apparatus can be readily swivelled between the fingers and the thumb without requiring the user to turn his wrist. At the same time the depressions of course prevent inadvertent slipping of the apparatus from the hand of the user.
As illustrated I may also provide the end faces of the apparatus, that is those portions of the end faces Which are associated with the shaving head 2, with additional semi-spherical depressions 6 corresponding to the depressions 5 but of course of smaller diameter.
I have found it to be advantageous if the diameter of at least the depressions 5 at least approaches the width of the side faces, as illustrated.
It will be understood that each of the elements described above, or two or more together, may also find a useful application in other types of constructions differing from the types described above.
While the invention has been illustrated and described as embodied in a dryshaver, it is not intended to be limited to the details shown, since various modifications and structural changes may be made without departing in any Way from the spirit of the present invention.
What is claimed as new and desired to be protected by Letters Patent is set forth in the appended claims.
What is claimed is:
1. In a dryshaver of the type comprising a two-part housing having a pair of side faces and a pair of end faces, with one part of the housing constituting a shaving head, the improvement residing in providing each face of at least one of said pairs with a handgrip portion in the form of a semi-spherical depression.
2. In a dryshaver as defined in claim 1, wherein said one pair is said pair of side faces.
3. In a dryshaver as defined in claim 1, wherein said one pair is said pair of end faces, and wherein the depressions are respectively provided on the portions of said end faces which are associated with said one part constituting said shaving head.
4. In a dryshaver as defined in claim 1; further comprising an additional handgrip portion in form of a semispherical depression on each face of the other of said pairs.
5. In a dryshaver as defined in claim 2, said dryshaver 5 having a center of gravity and the centers of said depressions substantially coinciding with said center of gravity.
6. In a dryshaver as defined in claim 2, said side faces having a given width, and the diameter of said depressions approaching said given Width.
