SHBARS.
No. 355,103. Patented Dec. 28, 1886.
r n m UNITED STATES PATENT OFFICE.
LONGLEY LEWIS SAGENDORPH, OF CINCINNATI, OHIO, ASSIGNOR OF ONE- HALF TO HARLAN P. LLOYD, OF SAME PLACE.
SHEARS.
SPECIFICATION forming part of Letters Patent No. 355,103,datec1 December 28, 1886.
Application filed October 25. 1886. Serial No. 2l7,194. (No model .To aZZ whom it may concern:
Be it known that I, LONGLEY LEWIs SAG- ENDORPH, a resident of Cincinnati, Hamilton county, Ohio, have invented certain new and 5 useful Improvements in Shearsfor Cutting Corrugated Sheet Metal, of which the following is a specification.
The object of my invention is to produce a device for shearing corrugated metal across the corrugations without flattening or otherwise disturbing the corrugations.
In the accompanying drawings, forming part of this specification, Figure 1 is a perspective view of a pair of shears embodying my improvements. Fig. 2 shows the adaptation of my shears to heavy work.
In my shears as adapted for hand use the blades are pivoted together in the usual manner. The cutting-edges of each blade are corrugated to conform more or less accurately to the shape of the sheet to be out.
In Fig. l a sheet of corrugated metal is shown in position between the blades and ready to be out. As the blades are approximated the sheet 23 is out with ashearing cut from the inner to the outer ends of the blades. For heavy metal it is preferable to have the blades approach each other squarely, the lower one acting as a bed on which the sheet rests.
The advantages of my device will be readily o seen.
Heretofore, the corrugated metal being cut by plain shears, the corrugations were broken, which necessitated the reworking of the metal again; If the metal be out before being oor- 35 rugated, the difference of annealing of the iron allows the metal to take up more or less of the sheet, and hence in cutting miters, 850., the metal, if out before being corrugated, cannot be depended on to come out to the correct 0 measure.
What I claim as new and of my invention, and desire to secure by Letters Patent, is
In shears for cutting metal, a pair of solid blades having their edges corrugated, substan- 5 tially as and for the purposes specified.
LONGLEY LEWIS SAGENDORPH.
