Definitions

  • a prime mover is mounted on a main implement frame.
  • a crank in the main frame is operatively connected to the prime mover to be rotated thereby.
  • a housing Positioned a spaced distance from the lower end of the main frame is a housing having an internal chamber filled with oil.
  • a bellows encloses the space between the housing and the main frame.
  • An oil aperture extends through the top of the housing to the space within the bellows.
  • a reciprocating frame comprises four rods mounted for longitudinal movement in the lower end of the main frame and in the upper, adjacent, wall of the housing.
  • the reciprocating frame has a crossmember within the main frame at the upper ends of the rods, and a plate within the housing at the lower ends of the rods.
  • the upper crossmember is connected to the crank so as to reciprocate the reciprocating frame.
  • a compression spring extends between the upper crossmember and the upper wall of the housing.
  • a second compression spring extends between the upper wall of the housing and the plate in the housing. The bottom of the housing forms a tamping foot.
  • This invention relates to an implement, in particular a tamper, with vibrating tool in which the tool is set into vibration by a prime mover via a crank drive and a spring system comprising a pair of compression springs or compression spring sets adapted to operate in opposition.
  • the invention relates to a tamper.
  • the tool causes the tool to be thrust by the springs alternately in the upward and downward direction.
  • the tool executes a vibrating motion while sliding and being guided in the implement housing.
  • the prior art furthermore discloses a system in which a cylinder is reciprocatingly guided in the implement housing.
  • Said cylinder is closed by upper and lower closing members which operate as spring abutments.
  • a piston slides in the cylinder.
  • the tool is rigidly joined to said piston via a piston rod extending through the lower closing member.
  • the piston rod is supported via compression springs relative to the upper and lower closing members.
  • the cylinder is set into reciprocating motion by the crank drive. This motion is transmitted via the springs to the piston and therefore to the tool.
  • crank drive is associated with a frame comprising a plurality of parallel rods joined at the top and bottom by transverse members and being guided at the top in slide bearings disposed in the implement housing, the tool having a housing part which surrounds the lower part of the frame with the lower transverse member and is guided on the rods with slide bearings, the upper closure forming the abutment for the compression springs.
  • Grease lubrication is conventionally employed for known constructions. Such grease lubrication requires regular maintenance. Grease lubrication is also accompanied by wear of components which wear is greater than that occurring when oil lubrication is used.
  • the present invention permits the provision by simple means of oil lubrication, thus simplifying the maintenance of the implement and increasing its working life. In the construction ofthe invention this is achieved in that the tool housing part is joined to the implement housing by a sealing bellows, by the fact that the lower transverse member is a plate which approximately fills the cross section of the tool housing part and that the tool housing part is filled with oil and is provided in its upper closure with an aperture through which oil is injected into the slide bearings of the implement housing during the relative oscillating motion of the frame and tool.
  • FIG. 1 is a longitudinal section of a tamper constructed in accordance with the invention.
  • FIG. 2 is a cross section along the line lI-ll of FIG. 1.
  • a prime mover 1 drives, via a flexible centrifugal clutch 2, a pinion shaft 3 with a pinion 3a.
  • the pinion meshes with a gearwheel 4.
  • the gearwheel 4 is operatively joined to a crankshaft 5 which is journaled in the implement housing I0.
  • the crankshaft 5 drives a reciprocating frame via a connecting rod 6, said frame comprising an upper crossmember 7, vertical rods 8 and a lower crossmember 9.
  • the rods 8 of the reciprocating frame are guided in the implement housing or main frame 10 and in a housing part 12 of a tamper 13 by means of slide bearings 11.
  • the upper closure or wall of the tool housing part 12 serves as a spring abutment for two compression spring sets I4 and 15 which bear on the one side against the tool housing wall 12a and on the other side against the upper and lower crossmembers 7 and 9 respectively of the reciprocating frame.
  • the oscillating motion of the reciprocating frame is transmitted to the tool via the spring sets 14, 15. a
  • the implement housing 10 and the tool housing part 12 are sealingly joined to each other by means of bellows 17 so as to permit relative motion.
  • the tool housing part 12 defines an internal chamber filled with oil 16.
  • the lower crossmember 9 is formed by a plate I which approximately fills the cross section of the housing part 12.
  • the upper closure of the housing part I2 has a central aperture 1217.
  • the lower transverse member 9 functions as pump piston and injects oil through the upper aperture of the housing part 12 into the implement housing 10 as far as the slide bearings 11 for the reciprocating frame.
  • the plate 9 moves away from the wall 120 the oil from above the wall can drain back through the aperture.
  • the tamper is provided with a handlebar I8. Said handlebar is retained between two antivibration mounts 19 which are stressed in torsion.
  • the antivibration mounts are mounted by screws 20 between two cheeks on the implement housing 10. By releasing the screws 20 it is possible for the handlebars to be pivoted relative to the implement housing 10 to be secured in a fresh position. It is possible in this manner for the height of the handle to be adjusted in accordance with the appropriate requirements.
  • a housing having a pressure wall, said housing being positioned in spaced relation to said distal end with said wall adjacent said end, said tool being connected to said housing;
  • a reciprocating frame including a plurality of parallel rods connected by a first crossmember at one end thereof and by a second crossmember at the other end thereof. extending between the main frame and the housing with the first member being within the frame and the second member being within the housing, said rods being guided for longitudinal movement in the main frame and in said wall, one of said springs being between said wall and the first member, the other of said springs being between the wall and the second member, said crank being connected to the first member to reciprocate said reciprocating frame.
  • said rods and a bellows between said main frame and said housing and enclosing the space therebetween, said wall having an aperture therethrough positioned so that assaid plate moves toward said wall and forces oil out of said aperture said oil is directed toward said bearings in said main frame.
