Norton Attorney- ABSTRACT: A multiple compartmented bottle, formed by a one step bottle molding operation, wherein a secondary compartment may be contained on a plug securable in the bottle; or by a secondary vessel contained within the bottle; and by equivalent methods which will not necessitate a two step bottle molding operation.
Patented Nov. 3, 1970 1 //Y VE/V 702 $6 504 awe-y -PBNKETMEFTEPFQTHE This invention relates generally to bottles two or more separate compartments therewithin.
It is generally well known that it is quite impossible to form internal compartments in a one step bottle production with the present day molding technology. Thus the only method heretofore to form internal compartmented bottles has been to secure a secondary or additional compartments to the initial bottle by adhesionthereto. In view of the advancement of modern technology inother'fields, multiple compartmented bottles are a necessity, and accordingly, an improved method of their production has been in want.
Accordingly, it is a principal object of the present invention to provide an improved bottle design which overcomes the above limitation.
Another object is to provide a multiple compartment bottle wherein a secondary compartment is produced within a plug securable to the bottle, so to allow the bottle body to be molded in a one step operation, yet the final product comprising a multiple compartmented assembly.
Another object is to provide a multiple compartment bottle wherein a secondary compartment is produced by a secondary vessel contained within the bottle. 7
Other objects are to provide a multiple compartmented bot tie which is simple in design, inexpensive to manufacture, rugged in construction, easy to use and effieient in operation.
These and other objects will be readily evident upon a study of the following specification and the accompanying drawing wherein: Y i
FIG. 1 is a side view of one form of the invention, shown partly in cross section, I
FIG. 2 is a similar view of a modified form of the invention,
FIGS. 3, 4, and 5 are similar views of yet further modified forms thereof,
FIG. 6 is a cross-sectional view of a modified plug unit shown disassembled,
FIG. 7 is a side cross-sectional view of a bell cap, and
FIG. 8 is a side cross-sectional view of yet another modified form of the bottle assembly.
Referring now to the drawing in detail, and more particularly first to F IG. 1, the reference numeral 10 represents a bottle with two or more separate compartments according to the present invention, wherein there is a bottle body 11 including a continuous side wall 12, upwardly conical bottom wall 13, and externally threaded neck 14 having access opening 15 therethrough which communicates with interior compartment 16. A secondary opening 17 in the bottom wall 13 may be plugged in various ways. A plug 18 may have a secondary compartment 19 formed'thcrein. A head 20 on the plug limits the introduction distance of the plug into the opening 17.
' part, the wall abutting the flange of the other part. This circular wall would be spaced from the threaded external walls.
In FIG. 5, a modified bottle is shown comprised of parts 51 and 52 threadingly secured together; the base part 51 including secondary compartment 53. The FlG. depicts how the various secondary compartments may be enclosed by a bell shaped cap 54, so as to separate the secondary compartment from the primary compartment of the bottle. The cap 54 includes a stem 55 extending into the bottle neck, and outwardly therethrough for manual control of the cap.
ln H6. 7, a modified construction shows a bell shaped cap 70 enclosing a secondary compartment unit 71 comprised of compartments 72 and 73, the cap arresting contact of con tents between the two secondary compartments.
ln FIG. 8, a bottle 80 includes primary bottle 81 with raised concentric head 82 on inner side of bottom wall 83 so to form a seat for separate bottle comprising a secondary compartment.
A bell cap 85 includes inner and outer lips 86 and 87 enclosing therebetween the upper edge 88 of the secondary bottle. The bellstem 89 abuts at its upper end against primary bottle cap 90; the upper end of the stem forming an enlarged head 91 so to allow convenient manual grasp thereof. The cap 90 has a conical depression 92 on its underside within which the stem head 91 seats itself.
While various changes may be made in the detail construction, it is understood that such changes will be within the spirit and scope of the present invention as is defined by the appended claims.
lclaim:
l. A multicompartmented bottle assembly comprising an outer primary container of homogeneous integral construc tion in combination with a smaller open top secondary vessel mounted removably and completely within the primary container wherein said primary container has an externally means for securing the secondary vessel to the primary con- Referring now to FlG,' 2, if plug 21 has a secondary chamber 22 which is too large to be inserted from the bottom, the plug may be dropped into-the bottle 23 through the top opening 24. The plug includes a threaded shank 25 extending out of bottle opening 26 for receiving a washer 27 and nut 28, thus securing the plug in fixed position.
' Alternately, the plug could be made, as shown in FIG. 6, with an internally extending threaded shanlr'ZSa receivable from the outer side through the opening 26 for threadingly engaging a threaded opening 29 formed on the secondary comtainer.
2. An assembly as in claim 1 wherein the secondary vessel fits through the bottom aperture and is mounted wholly within the primary container.
3. An assembly as in claim 2 wherein the secondary vessel is part of a plug which fits sealingly in the said aperture and includes a head for limiting the insertion of said plug in the aperture to a predetermined distance.
4. An assembly as in claim 1 wherein the secondary vessel includes a tapered shank adapted to fit abuttingly through said aperture and said means being mounted externally of said container on said shank to force the shank into sealing contact with the portion of the container surrounding the aperture.
