E0611 1/20 U.S. Cl. 52-30 17 Claims ABSTRACT OF THE DISCLOSURE An entrance frame in a door entrance in the wall of a building for the outer door of an elevator or lift installation, said frame including, head and side jambs, each jamb including front and rear elongate jamb members which are slidably interconnectible to allow adjustment in the depth of the frame, the front jamb members of the side and head jambs having lateral extensions which are outwardly directed to cover the edges of the side and head wall end faces defining the entrance; side wall support members securable to the side wall end faces for supporting the side jamb members; and connecting means connecting said side jamb members with said supports adapted to allow lateral adjustment therebetween.
This invention relates to entrance frames for door entrances in the walls of buildings and more particularly but not exclusively to entrance frames for the outer doors or gates of lift installations in multi-story buildings.
In lift installations, the lift entrances on the various floors must be both accurately aligned with and spaced in relation to the track of the lift car. However it is not uncommon for lift entrances as provided in the wall structure of a building to be slightly out of alignment and even for the wall in which successive entrances on different floors are provided to be slightly out of plumb.
It is known accurately to position lift entrance frames within the entrances provided in the wall structure and then to make up the wall structure to the frames e.g, by back filling with grout. This is however unsatisfactory in that the need for builders work subsequent to the installation of the entrance frame is inconvenient and expensive; moreover such work is difficult to execute in a consistently satisfactory manner.
It is an object of the present invention therefore to provide an entrance frame which can be accurately installed to a desired position in a door entrance in the wall structure of a building despite errors in the positioning of said entrance of the nature previously mentioned and which yet requires no making up of the wall structure to the frame after installation.
Thus, according to the present invention there is provided an entrance frame in a door entrance in the Wall of a building for the outer door of a lift installation, said frame including, head and side jambs, each jamb including front and rear jamb members slidably interconnectible to provide for variations in the required depth of said entrance frame, the front jamb members of said side and head jambs having lateral extensions outwardly directed so as, in use, to cover the junctions 'of said entrance frame with the edges of the side and head wall end faces defining the entrance; side wall support members securable to the side wall end faces lengthwise thereof to provide front and rear supports for mounting the respective front and rear jamb members of said side jambs in spaced parallel relationship to said side wall end faces; and connecting means for connecting said side jamb members with said supports provided by said side wall support 3,535,837 Patented Oct. 27, 1970 members, said connecting means being such as to allow for lateral adjustment within said entrance of the positions of said side jambs relative to said side wall support members.
Each front jamb member with its lateral extension constitutes an architrave jamb covering the junction of the wall entrance and frame, thus ensuring a finished appearance for the installed frame without need for making up the walls to the frame. By suitably locating the side wall angle members on the side wall end faces, the front to rear positioning of the frame within the door entrance can be determined, the slidable connection between the front and rear jamb members enabling desired forward and rearward limits for the frame jambs to be obtained. Finally the provision for lateral adjustment afforded by the connections between the side jamb members and said wall angle members enables the side jambs to be positioned in the desired lateral position relative to said entrance. It will thus be appreciated that an entrance frame according to the present invention avoids the need for builders work after installation whilst being able to accommodate lateral and vertical errors in the positioning of the door entrance inthe wall structure.
Preferably the front jamb members of the side and head jambs are connectible as a sub-unit for presentation to the front fixings provided by the side wall angle members. As a result it is not necessary to provide front fixings for the head jamb. If desired a head wall angle member may be provided to be secured to the head wall end face of the entrance to provide rear fixings for the rear jamb member of the head jamb. In its application to lift installations, however, the connection of the rear jamb member of the head jamb is preferably made to the lift door header by way of an angle member secured to such header.
Clearly it is essential that the said side wall angle members be securable to the side wall end faces in chosen positions relative to one another in the direction of the depth of the entrance so as to determine the depth of the side jambs; such members could if desired be adjustably interconnectible, e.g., by sliding connections, and then if they were to be provided with means for rigidly securing them together in their desired relative position only one of such members would need to be directly securable to the side wall end face, the other member then of course being secured to the wall via the firstmentioned of such members. In a preferred embodiment, however, the said two members are not interconnectible but are adapted to be separately secured to the said wall end face at a selectable spacing from one another transverse to their lengths so that there will be a longitudinal central gap of variable width between such members.
As already mentioned, the said front and rear jamb members of each side jamb are slidably interconnectible; it will be appreciated that such members provide the inside face of the jamb, and their slidable interconnection ensures that a gap will not appear between their adjoining edges in any setting of the depth of the side jamb likely to be met in practice. Means may of course be provided for securing such jamb members together in their correct relatively adjusted positions, if desired.
It is preferred that the said slidable interconnection should be one in which the edge of one of such front and rear jamb members of each side jamb is slidably received in a slot defined by the other of such members, so that the path of the adjusting movement of such members is reliably defined. Thus one of such members could be bifurcated at its edge region to define both the inner and outer walls of such a slot; in a preferred embodiment of the invention, however, the inner wall of the slot is formed by the edge region of a body part of the front jamb member whilst the outer wall is formed by the adjacent and parallel edge region of a decorative and protective facing element of such member, which latter element is conveniently an aluminum or plastics extrusion formed to cover the whole height of the body part of said front jamb member including its aforementioned lateral extensron.
It should be understood that each of the jamb members of the entrance frame of the invention may be made up of any number of constituent rigidly interconnected elongate elements that may be convenient to achieve simplicity in the manufacture of such members, having regard to their desired cross-sectional shapes in any particular form of the invention.
Provision will preferably be made for securing the side jambs to the floor as well as to the wall end face; in a preferred embodiment one or more brackets are provided at the bottom ends of one or both of the side jamb members for direct connection to the floor, e.g. by bolts. A similar provision may conveniently be made at the top end of one of the front and rear jamb members of each side jamb for connecting such jamb to the head jamb of the entrance frame.
The arrangement of the head and side jamb of entrance frames according to the invention has the advantage that they may be made to define, in conjunction with other members e.g. the said side wall angle members, enclosed spaces which may be used as ducts for electrical wiring.
As well as being directed to entrance frames for door entrances as aforesaid, particularly but not exclusively for the outer doors or gates of lifts, the invention extends to a lift installation in which the entrance frames of the door openings for the outer doors or gates are constructed as set forth above as being in accordance with the invention.
In order that the invention may be more readily understood one embodiment of the same will now be described by way of example and with reference to the accompanying drawings, in which:

Referring first to FIG. 5, the side jamb assembly of an entrance frame for the outside door or gate of lift therein illustrated forms a hollow body defined by an assembly of four elongate members of sheet material. Such members comprise firstly two similar side wall angle members 10, 12. Member 10 includes a main body part 14 and a right-angled flange portion18; and member 12 similarly includes a main body part 16 and a right-angled flange portion 20. Each of the flange portions 18, 20 consists of a number of separate short flange members that are bendable relative to its respective body part 14, 16 for a purpose as explained hereafter. A third elongate member constituting a rear jamb member of the side jamb comprises a member 22, whilst a fourth elongate member constituting the body of a front jamb member comprises a one-piece member 24 having portions 26 and 28 at right angles to one another; the portion 28 has a lateral extension 32 for a purpose to be referred to hereinafter.
The two side wall angle members 10, 12 are adapted to be rigidly secured, by screws 30, to the vertical end face 34 of the side wall 36 of the entrance opening; such members may be preformed with apertures for fixing screws or such apertures could be formed on site if desired. The flange portions 18, 20 on members 10, 12 are bendable relative to the respective body portions 14, 16 thereof so that if the end face 34 of the wall 36 is not correctly aligned such flange members may be bent into the proper alignment after the members 10, 12 have been secured to the end face 34 of the wall.
The element 22 constituting the rear jamb member is adjustably connectible to the flange portion 18 of the rearward member 10 via an intermediate element 38 which is secured to the member 10 by bolts 40 passing through slots 44 in the element 38, whereby such member 10 and element 38 may be secured together in a desired position in the direction of adjustment indicated by the arrows 48. The portion 28 of the front jamb body member 24 is similarly adjustably connectible to the flange portion 20 of the forward angle member 12 by bolts 42 passing through slots 46 in member 24 so that such parts may be secured together in a desired relative position in the direction of adjustment indicated by the arrows 50.
The rear jamb member 22 is not secured to the portion 26 of the front jamb body member 24 but such parts are slidable one upon the other, and a slot for the reception of the member 22 is defined between the outside face of the portion 26 and the inside face of one arm of a decorative and protective facing element 52 of such front jamb member whose structure will be referred to in more detail hereinafter.
It will thus be seen that the two side wall angle members 10, 12 and the side jamb members 22 and 24 may be connected together to form a substantially hollow assembly of rectangular cross-section, in such an adjustable manner that both the depth and the width of the assembly may be selected within finite limits during its construction. Thus the depth of the jamb, i.e. its front to rear dimension relative to the lift entrance openings, may be selected having regard to the positions of the front surface 81 and rear surface 82 and the front to rear positioning of the shaft wall 36 by suitable choice of the relative positions of the angle members 10, 12 which provide a fixing for the jamb members, whilst the transverse position of the jamb parallel to the width of such entrance opening may be selected by suitable choice of the positions of interconnection of the flange members 18, 20 of the members 10, 12 and the respective edges of the element 38 and the portion 28 of the member 24.
The portion 26 of the front jamb body member 24 has a bracket 54 secured to its lower end for attachment to the floor, and another bracket (not shown), which is similar to bracket 57 (FIG. 3), secured to its upper end for attachment to the head jamb of the architrave.
The decorative and protective facing element 52 of the front jamb member is an aluminium extrusion, but could be made of a suitably rigid plastics material if desired. It is formed to make a secure gri ping engagement with the front jamb body member 24, by having a re-entrant edge portion 58 which engages behind the outwardly bent edge region 60 of the lateral extension 32 of the portion 28 of the member 24, and an arcuately surfaced corner portion 62 which embraces and grips the outside corner surface of the member 24. Element 52 has spaced studs 68, which extend through corresponding slots 84 in front member 24, and the slots 84 are taken round the corner of member 24 for ease of assembly of element 52 and member 24. A rib 64 on the inside face of the element 52 defines the end of the slot which receives the edge of the member 22 and thus defines the limit of relative inward adjustment of the jamb members. The edge 66 of the portion 26 of the front jamb body member 24 is bent inwardly to facilitate insertion of the edge of the element 22 in such slot.
The angle members 10, 12 and the connector element 38 for the rear jamb member will normally be of sheet steel for fire protection; the other members can be of lighter construction, e.g. of aluminium. Electrical conduit 80 extends between the floor landings, as explained hereafter.
FIG. also shows one vertical edge of the outer or hoistway door 70 of the lift car 76. The position of the door 70 provides the line of reference for positioning the side jamb during its assembly; the fixed line of reference for positioning such jamb may thus be regarded as the corner 72 of the rear jamb member 22.
In a lift installation, the lift entrances on the various floors are both accurately aligned with and spaced in relation to the track of the lift car 76. In particular, the edge 75 of the door sill 74 of the outer door 70 at each floor is aligned with the corresponding sills at the other landings and is spaced relative to the track of the lift car 76. The gap 79 between the edge 78 of the platform or the inner door sill 77 of the car 76 and the edge 75 of the outer door sill 74 of the entrance at each floor does not exceed defined limits. In this Way, a proper design clearance is provided between the lift car 76 and the door sill 74. The door 70 is located relative to the edge 75 of the sill 74 and is made plumb; and the corner 72 of member 22 is positioned relative to the door 70. Thus, the door jamb is accurately positioned relative to lift car 76.
Referring now to FIG. 6, the other side jamb assembly of the entrance frame therein illustrated also includes four elongate members. Such members comprise two similar side wall angle members 11, 13 which have respective main body parts 15, 17 and respective right- angled flange portion 19, 21. Flange portions 19, 21 consist of a number of short, bendable flange members for aligning flange portions 19, 21 after securing members 11, 13 to wall 36 as explained hereinafter. A third elongate member constituting a rear jamb member of the side jamb comprises a member 23, whilst a fourth elongate member consituting the body of a front jamb member comprises a onepiece member 25 having portions 27 and 29 at right angles to one another; the portion 29 has a lateral extension 33, which overlaps surface 81 of wall 36. The two side wall angle members 11, 13 are adapted to be rigidly secured, by screws 31, to the vertical end face 35 of the side wall 36 of the entrance opening. The flange portions 19, 21 on members 11, 13 are bendable relative to the respective body portions 15, 17 thereof so that if the end face 35 of the wall 36 is not correctly aligned such flange members may be bent into the proper alignment after the members 11, 13 have been secured to the end face 35 of the wall.
The element 23 constituting the rear jamb member is adjustably connectible to the flange portion 19 of the rearward merber 11 via an intermediate element 39 which is secured to the member 11 by bolts 41 passing through slots 45 in the element 39, whereby such member 11 and element 39 may be secured together in a desired position in the direction of adjustment indicated by the arrows 49. The portion 29 of the front jamb body member 25 is similarly adjustably connectible to the flange portion 21 of the forward angle member 13 by bolts 43 passing through slots 47 in member 25 so that such parts may be secured together in a desired relative position in the direction of adjustment indicated by the arrows 51. A slot for the reception of the member 23 is defined between the outside face of the portion 27 and the inside face of one arm of a facing element 53 of such front jamb member whose structure will be referred to in more detail hereinafter.
Thus, the two side wall angle members 11, 13 and the side jamb members 23 and 25 may also be connected together to form a substantially hollow assembly of 6 rectangular cross-section, in such an adjustable manner that both the depth and the width of the assembly may be selected within finite limits during its construction. Also, the depth of the jamb may be selected having regard to the positions of the front and rear surfaces 81, 82 of the shaft wall 36 by suitable choice of the relative positions of the angle members 11, 13 whilst the transverse position of the jamb parallel to the width of such entrance opening may be selected by suitable choice of the positions of interconnection of the flange members 19, 21 of the members 11, 13 and the respective edges of the element 39 and the portion 29 of the member 25.
The portion 27 of the front jamb body member 25 has a bracket 55 secured to its lower end for attachment to the floor, and a similar bracket 57 (FIG. 3) secured to its upper end for attachment by bolts 87 to the head jamb of the architrave.
The facing element 53 is formed to make a secure gripping engagement with the front jamb body member 25, by having a re-entrant edge portion 59 which engag s behind the outwardly bent edge region 61 of the lateral extension 33 of the portion 29 of the member 25, and an arcuately surfaced corner portion 63 which embraces and grips the outside corner surface of the member 25. Element 53 has spaced studs 69, which extend through corresponding slots 85 in front member 25, and the slots are taken around the corner of member 25 for ease of assembly of element 53 and member 25. A rib 65 on the inside face of the element 53 defines the end of the slot which receives the edge of the member 23 and thus defines the limit of relative inward adjustment of the jamb member. The edge 67 of the portion 27 of the front jamb body member 25 is bent inwardly to facilitate insertion of the edge of the element 23 in such slot.
FIG. 6 also shows one vertical edge of the outer or hoistway door 70 of the lift car 76, and the fixed line of reference for positioning this side jamb may be regarded as the corner 73 of the rear jamb member 23.
Referring now to FIG. 2 this shows the construction of a head jamb for use with side jambs as already described, to make up the complete entrance frame. Such jamb is of adjustable construction to allow for variations in the front to rear positioning of the head wall above the lift access opening; the height of the head wall end face 89 of such opening above the floor is not liable to variation and it is not therefore necessary to make any provision for adjusting the depth of the head jamb, i.e. its vertical transverse dimension. The head jamb consists of a rear jamb member 90 having a right-angled flange at its rear edge by means of which it is secured via an angle bar 91 to the header 92 carrying the top runner of the outside door or gate of the lift. The front jamb member of the head jamb is formed by a decorative and protective facing element 93, which is an aluminium extrusion similar to the front jamb facing elements 52, 53 of the side jambs, and a fluted front jamb body member 94 which cooperates with the element 93 to form a slot for the reception of the front edge of the rear jamb member 90; the position of the rear jamb member 90 relative to the element 93 and member 94 of the front jamb member of the head jamb is thus adjustable when the jamb is assembled, to allow for variations in position of the wall 36.
The process of assembling and erecting the entrance frame is as follows.
The side wall angle members 10, 11, 12, 13 are bolted to the respective end faces 34, 35 of the shaft wall 36 and the respective flange members 18, 19, 20, 21 thereof are, if necessary, bent into correct alignment with regard to the position of the outer door 70 of the lift car 76. The outer door 70 and its door sill 74 are first installed and aligned with regard to the position of the lift car 76; and the edge 75 of door sill 74 is also aligned with the edges of the corresponding door sills at the other landings. Angle members 10, 11 are in fact secured in position with the connector elements 38, 39 for the rear jamb members 22, 23 already loosely secured to them, the members 10, 11 being so positioned that a desired spacing, e.g. of fii, will be provided between the rear face of the members 22, 23 and the front face of the car door 70.
The elements 38, 39 are now securely bolted to the flange members 18, 19 of the adjacent members 10, 11, in their correct positions relative to the path of movement of the lift car 76.
The side wall angle members 10, 11, 12, 13 and the connector elements 38, 39 for the rear jamb members of each side jamb having been securely erected in their correct positions, the front jamb member, including element 93 and member 94, of the head jamb and both of the front jamb members, including elements 52, 53 and members 24, 25, of the side jambs are now assembled and secured together as a subunit constituting the complete head and sides of the architrave of the entrance frame. Such architrave sub-unit is now offered up in toto to those parts of the frame that have already been secured in position, and is fixed thereto by securing the portions 28, 29 of the front jamb members 24, 25 of the side jambs by bolts 42, 43 and captive nuts to the flanges 20, 21 of the forward side wall angle members 12, 13. It will now be observed that the lateral extensions 32, 33 of the front jamb members 24, 25 of the side jambs cover the edges of surface 81 adjacent surfaces 34, 35 (FIGS. and 6) of the entrance opening to provide a finished appearance; the facing element 93 of the front jamb member of the head jamb provides a similar effect covering the edge of surface 81 adjacent surface 89 (FIG. 2). The brackets 54, 55 on the front jamb body members 24, 25 are now bolted to the floor.
The car door is now moved aside and the rear jamb members 22, 23 are placed in position with their edges engaged in the respective slots defined between the respective body members 24, 25 and the respective facing elements 52, 53 of the front jamb members. The members 22, 23 are bolted to the respective elements 38, 39 by respective bolts 98, 99 to complete the formation of the bodies of the side jamb assemblies. The rear jamb member 90 of the head jamb is also secured in position by bolts 100 to its fixing bracket 91 to complete the entrance frame assembly.
The very rigid nature of the side jambs formed in the above manner makes it unnecessary to fill the hollow defined between them and the wall end faces 34, 35 with building material. Thus such spaces may be used as wiring conduits and the front portion of the facing element 52 may directly carry the lift hall button 95 and illuminated jewel 96 (FIGS. 4 and 5) instead of mounting these in a separate face-plate as has heretofore been necessary. The hollow space within the head jamb houses the ear position indicator 97 (FIG. 4) together with its wiring. Electrical conduit 80 (FIG. 5), which extends between the fioor landings, contains the main wiring, which connects to the wiring of the button 95, the jewel 96 and the indicators 97. The member 90 can be removed from the head jamb without difficulty to provide access to the interior for serving the electrical equipment; the same is true of the members 22, 23 of the side jambs. Moreover the complete architrave sub-unit mentioned above, comprising the front jamb members of the head and side jambs, can be removed from the entrance frame without difficulty when desired, without any builders work being necessary.
It will thus be seen that the invention provides entrance frames for door entrances which can be assembled and correctly positioned in a very simple and speedy manner without the necessity for any builders work, despite the tolerances normally allowed to the builder in his positioning of the door entrance opening, which features are of great advantage particularly in the installation of lift door entrance frames in so-called standard housing schemes and other building projects of a more or less standardized nature.
What we claim is:
1. An entrance frame in a door entrance in the wall of a building for the outer door of a lift installation, said building wall having a pair of oppositely facing side wall end faces and a head Wall end face defining said door entrance, said frame including, head and side jambs, each jamb including front and rear jamb members slidably interconnectible to provide for variations in the required depth of said entrance frame, the front jamb members of said side and head jambs having lateral extensions outwardly directed so as, in use, to cover the junctions of said entrance frame with the edges of the side and head wall end faces defining the entrance; side wall support members disposed between said side wall end faces and said front and rear side jamb members, said side wall support members having respective body portions disposed in bearing against and connected to the side wall end faces lengthwise thereof, said side wall support members having respective flange portions to provide front and rear supports for mounting the respective front and rear jamb members of said side jambs in spaced parallel relationship to said side wall end faces; and connecting means including a first plurality of adjustable connecting members adjustably connecting said body portions to said side wall end faces and including a second plurality of adjustable connecting members adjustably connecting said flange portions to the side jamb members, said connecting means being such as to allow for longitudinal adjustment and lateral adjustment within said entrance of the positions of said side jambs relative to said wall.

An entrance frame as claimed in claim 1, wherein the side wall support members include two pairs of angle members respectively disposed between the front and rear jamb members and the side wall end faces, each said pair of angle members including a first angle member connected to the front jamb member of the side jamb and disposed between the front jamb member and the side wall end face adjacent thereto and a second angle member connected to the rear jamb member of the side jamb and disposed between the rear jamb member and the side wall end face. 1
3. An entrance frame as claimed in claim 2, wherein the side wall angle members have respective body portions which have adjustable screws adjustably connected to the side wall end faces land have respective flange portions which have adjustable bolts adjustably connected to the jamb members.

An entrance frame as claimed in claim 3, wherein said flange portions of the side wall angle members include a plurality of longitudinally spaced flange parts separated by openings, said parts being bendable relative to the respective body portions thereof, said flange portions being covered on the exterior sides thereof by said front and rear side jamb members.
5. An entrance frame as claimed in claim 1, wherein the front and rear jamb members of each side jamb and of the head jamb are elongate members having respective first elongate portions which are fixedly supported and having respective second elongate portions which are slidably interconnected to each other, and wherein said first elongate portion of the rear jamb member of the head jamb has an elongate header member fixedly connected thereto, said header member having an elongate track member adjustably connected thereto for supporting a sliding door.

An entrance frame in a door entrance in the Wall of a building for the outer door of a lift installation, said frame including, head and side jambs, each jamb including front and rear jamb members slidably interconnectible to provide for variations in the required depth of said entrance frame, the front jamb members of said side and head jambs having lateral extensions outwardly directed so as, in use, to cover the junctions of said entrance frame with the edges of the side and head Wall end faces defining the entrance; side wall support mem- 9 bers securable to the side wall end faces lengthwise thereof to provide front and rear supports for mounting the respective front and rear jamb members of said side jambs in spaced parallel relationship to said side wall end faces; and connecting means for connecting said side jamb members with said supports provided by said side wall support members, said connecting means being such as to allow for lateral adjustment within said entrance of the positions of said side jambs relative to said side wall support members, wherein the front and rear jamb members of each side jamb are elongate members having respective first elongate portions which are adjustably securable to the side wall support members and having respective second elongate portions which are slidably interconnected to each other, and wherein one of said second elongate portions of said front and rear jamb members of each side jamb has an elongate edge having an elongate slot, and the other of said second elongate portions has a corresponding elongate edge which is received in said slot forming a sliding joint therebetween.

An entrance frame as claimed in claim 6, wherein each of said front jamb members of said side jambs is a two-piece member comprising a body portion and a facing element, said body portion forming the interior side thereof and being connected to one of said side wall support members, said facing element forming the exterior side thereof and being arranged to cover said body portion and being finished in a decorative manner.
8. An entrance frame as claimed in claim 7, wherein said body portion and said facing element of the front jamb member of said side jamb have respective elongate edge portions disposed adjacent to each other forming therebetween said elongate slot.

An entrance frame as claimed in claim 6, wherein said first and second elongate portions of each said rear jamb member have respective overlapping edge portions, said edge portions being arranged to form a corner of said rear jamb member, said corner edge portions having a plurality of adjustable connectors for ease of assembly and disassembly of said sliding joint.

An entrance frame in a door entrance in the wall of a building for the outer door of a lift installation, said frame including, head and side jambs, each jamb including front and rear jamb members slidably interconnectible to provide for variations in the required depth of said entrance frame, the front jamb members of said side and head jambs having lateral extensions outwardly directed so as, in use, to cover the junctions of said entrance frame with the edges of the side and head wall end faces defining the entrance; side wall support members securable to the side wall end faces lengthwise thereof to provide front and rear supports for mounting the respective front and rear jamb members of said side jambs and in spaced parallel relationship to said side wall end faces; and connecting means for connecting said side jamb members with said supports provided by said side wall support members, said connecting means being such as to allow for lateral adjustment within said entrance of the positions of said side jambs relative to said side wall support members, and wherein the front and rear jamb members of each side jamb are elongate members having respective first elongate portions which are adjustably securable to the side wall support members and having respective second elongate portions which are slidably interconnected to each other, and wherein said connecting means for connecting said side jamb members to said side wall support members includes front and rear adjustable connectors respectively connecting the first elongate portions of the front and rear members of the side jambs to said side wall support members.

An entrance frame as claimed in claim 10, includ ing adjustable bracket means fixedly connecting said front jamb members of the side jambs at the top ends thereof to the front jamb members of the head jamb to form a 10 rigid sub-unit of said entrance frame, said bracket means being disposed between said front jamb members and said side wall end faces.
12. An entrance frame as claimed in claim 10, wherein the front jamb members of the side jambs have respective adjustable bracket means disposed at the bottom ends thereof for connecting the side jambs to the floor of said entrance, said bracket means being disposed between said front jamb members and said side wall end faces.

An entrance frame as claimed in claim 1, wherein said entrance frame has control and indicating devices for the lift installation mounted on the front jamb members of the head and side jambs, and wherein said head and side jambs enclose spaces to form Wiring conduits for enclosing wiring for said devices, and wherein the lift installation includes a lift car movable along a path of travel to serve said outer door, said lift installation including a wiring conduit disposed between said lift car and said entrance frame and alongside said outer door, said wiring conduit and said entrance frame being arranged to form a network of continuous enclosed conduit spaces for interconnecting the wiring of all entrance frames of the lift installation.

An entrance frame as claimed in claim 13, wherein said rear jamb members of said head and side jambs have respective first elongate portions which are fixedly supported by said second plurality of adjustable connecting members and have respective second elongate portions which are slidably interconnected to the front jamb members, said second elongate portions being removably connected to said first elongate portions, said second elongate portions being removable for ease of access to said wiring conduit spaces.

An entrance frame in a door entrance in the wall of a building for the outer door of a lift installation, said frame including, head and side jambs, each jamb including front and rear jamb members slidably interconnectible to provide for variations in the required depth of said entrance frame, the front jamb members of said side and head jambs having lateral extensions outwardly directed so as, in use, to cover the junctions of said entrance frame with the edges of the side and head wall end faces defining the entrance; side wall support members securable to the side wall end faces lengthwise thereof to provide front and rear supports for mounting the respective front and rear jamb members of said side jambs in spaced parallel relationship to said side wall end faces; and connecting means for connecting said side jamb members with saidsupports provided by said side wall support members, said connecting means being such as to allow for lateral adjustment within said entrance of the positions of said side jambs relative to said side wall support members, wherein the lift installation includes a lift car movable along a path of travel to serve said outer door, and wherein said rear jamb members of said head and side jambs are aligned with and spaced from the path of travel of said lift car, and wherein the outer door is a sliding door movable between open and closed positions relative to said head and side jambs, and wherein said rear jamb members of the head and side jambs have respective elongate corner portions, and wherein said corner portions are parallel to said sliding door.

An entrance frame in a door entrance in the wall of a building for the outer door of a lift installation, said frame including, head and side jambs, each jamb including front and rear jamb members slidably interconnectible to provide for variations in the required depth of said entrance frame, the front jamb members of said side and head jambs having lateral extensions outwardly directed so as, in use, to cover the junctions of said entrance frame with the edges of the side and head wall end faces defining the entrance; side wall support members securable to the side wall end faces lengthwise thereof to provide front and rear supports for mounting the respective front and rear jamb members of said side jambs in spaced parallel relationship to said side wall end faces; and connecting means for connecting said side jamb members with said supports provided by said side wall support members, said connecting means being such as to allow for lateral adjustment within said entrance of the positions of said side jambs relative to said side wall support members, wherein the lift installation includes a lift car movable along a path of travel to serve said outer door, and wherein said rear jamb members of said head and side jambs are aligned with and spaced from the path of travel of said lift car, and including a door sill for the outer door, said outer door sill having a substantially straight elongate edge portion, and wherein said rear jamb members of the head and side jambs have respective elongate corner portions, and wherein said corner portions are parallel to a plane including said edge portion of the outer door sill.
17. An entrance frame as claimed in claim 16, wherein said lift car has a car door sill having an edge portion, and wherein said edge portion of the car door sill is included in a plane which is spaced from and is substantially parallel to the edge portion of the outer door sill.
