SPECIFICATION forming part of Letters Patent No. 352,614, dated November 16, 1886.
Application led April 30, 1886.

Be it known that I, JOHN W. FAsHING, a citizen of the United States, residing at Garnett, in the county of Anderson and State of Kansas, have invented certain new and useful Improvements in Boxes or Show-Cases for Plug-Tobacco, and I do hereby declare that the following is a full, clear, and exact description ofthe same, reference being had to the annexed drawings, making a part of this specication, and to the letters and figures of reference marked thereon.
Figure 1 of the drawings is a perspective view of my invention, and Fig. 2 a vertical section thereof.
The object of the present invention is to provide a box or case especially adapted to contain and exhibit to view plug-tobacco, and also to keep it moist; and it consists in a box or case constructed substantially as shown in the drawings, and hereinafter described and i claimed.

The latch Eis provided with an upwardlyextending push-bar F, which passes up through a hole, c, in the top D. In order to allow the latch E to be depressed sufficiently to disengage itself with the loop or keeper d on the glass cover B, the re-enforce panel C has a beveled end, e, which allows of the depression as above described, and also forms a stop and seat for the spring-shank a when brought down thereon.

The box or case A at its back isprovided with a caddy, G, which contains the plug-tobacco, said caddy being without a top to facilitate the removal ofthe plugs from the uppermost layer.
To keep the tobacco moist and from drying, I keep a wet sponge in the-box or caseor other Vwell-known means usually employed for this purpose.
The box or case may be made of either wood or Inet-al, and ornamented or plain, as preferred. y
Having now fully described my invention, what I claim as new, and desire to secure by Letters Patent, is-
The combination, with a box or show-case for plug-.tobacco provided with a glass door or cover, of a spring-latch device having a shank, and a push-bar playing through the top of the box or case, a re-enforce panel secured to the under` side of the top and clamping the shank thereagainst, and beveled at its front to form a stop and seat for the shank, substantially as set forth.
