WVILLIAM WEBSTER, OF PHILADELPHIA, PENNSYLVANIA.
HQOK.
SPEGIFICATIQN forming part of Letters Patent No. 352,381, dated November 9,1886.
Application filed May 6, 1886. Serial N02 201,339. (No model.)
To all whom it may concern.-
Be it known that 1, WILLIAM WEBSTER, a citizen of the United States, residing at Philadelphia, in the county ot' Philadelphia and State of Pennsylvania, have invented certain new and useful Improvements in Hooks; and I do declare the following to be afull, clear, and exact description of the invention, such as will enable others skilled in the art to which it appertains to make and use the same; reference being had to the accompanying drawings, and to the letters and figures of reference marked thereon, which form a part of tbis'specification.
My invention aims-to provide a hook especially adapted to neckties, badges, eyeglasses, &c.; and it consists in certain novel features hereinafter set forth and claimed.
In the annexed drawings, Figures 1 2, and 3 are plan views showing difi'erent forms of blanks from which my hook-can be made; and Figs. 4 and 5 are perspective views of hooks made from the blanks shown in Figs. 1 and 2, respectively.
A represents the center or body of my blank. One end of this blank is provided with two corrugated spring-pins, B B, and the other end may be provided with two similar points, as shown in Fig. 1; or the main body may be extended, as shown in Fig. 2, and but one pair of pins used. The device can be still further varied, as shown in'Fig. 3, by forming a slot, 0, in the extended end of the blank and providing said slot with an enlarged circular head, 0. The blank is so proportioned that the spring pins are equal in length to about one-third the entire lenglh of the blank.
In forming the hook,-the ends of the blank are bent toward each other on opposite sides of the main portion, forming an S-shaped hook, as will be readily understood from Figs. 4 and 5.
The book which will be formed from the blank shown in Fig. 1 will be especially adapted for securing bows, ribbons, &c., to the dress of the wearer, one pair of pins entering the dress and the other pair entering the articlesecured' thereto.
From the blank shown in Fig. 2 a hook will be formed for holding eyeglasses, 8m, and from that shown in Fig. 3 an efficient necktie-retainer will be provided, the collar-button passing through the slot 0 and engaging the head I claim as new, and desire to secure by Letters Patent, is
An S shaped book made from a single piece of metalor other suitable material, having corf rugated spring-fastening pins at one or both ends, substantially as described and shown.
In testimony whereofl affix my signature in presence of two witnesses.
WILLIAM WEBSTER.
