SPECIFICATION forming part of Letters Patent-No. 352,369, dated November 9, 1886.

its objects to provide a folding supporting:-

frame for the tub, which will also carry the washing machinery proper, the parts being so i arranged that the frame may be readily set up for use or folded into a compact form for storage or transportation, as more fully hereinafter specified, and particularly pointed out in the claims. These objects we attain by the means illustrated in the accompanying drawings, in

tub being omitted. Fig. 2 represents a longitudinal vertical sectional view of the washingmachine proper. Fig. 3 represents a longitudinal sectional View of the apparatus, showing the same folded for transportation or storage. Fig. 4 represents a detached view showing one of the stops by which the lowerportion of the frame is held when in position for supporting thetub, and Fig. 5 a detached view showing the locking devices for holding the frame when folded.

The letter A indicates two standards, which are in avertical position when the frame is arranged for operation. Near the lower ends of said standards are pivoted, by means of around, B, two beams, O, which extend obliquely forward, as shown in Fig. 1, when the frame is set up. The forward ends of said beams are connected by a round, D, and at an interme- 4 5 diatepoint are pivoted the beams E by means of a round, F, the said beams setting obliquely, and forming the forward legs of the frame when .set up. The lower ends of said beams E are connected by a round, G, which braces the parts. To the oblique beams O are secured the Serial No. 181,314.

metallic stops H, against which the forward. edges of the beams E rest when the frame is elevated so as to keep it in such position.

The lower or forward ends of s beams are beveled, and have se cured to t em a transverse flat board, T, which supports the washing machinery proper, and which sets in the upper part of the tub when the apparatus is arranged for operation. To the said board are secured two standards, U, which are slotted, as indicated by the letter V,

for the reception of the shaft of the upper cor- 7 rugated roller, W, forming part of the washing mechanism. The said shaft is held to its bearings with a yielding pressure by means of the eyebolts A, which extend through apertures in the board, and through openings in a leaf- 8o spring attached thereto by means of the nuts B, which set over the scrcw-threadcd ends of said bolts.

The letters 0 D respectively indicate corrugated and plain rollers, which extend longitudinally between the standards in close proximity to the main corrugated roller, as shown plainly in Figs. 1, 2, and 3 of the drawings. The ends of the board T are rounded, and are provided with segments F, which are slotted at one end and pivoted to the board at the other. Through the slotted ends pass the bolts G, 5 which have binding-nuts, by means of which the segments may be set so as to project more or less over the ends of the board. so as to adjust and adapt it to fit tubs of different diameters.

The letters H I indicate two reversely-set hooks or clamps, which are pivoted to the rounds L, and adapted to lock and hold the frame together when folded for transportation 5 or storage.

As the washing machinery proper, located upon the flat board T, attached to the forward ends of the swinging, beams R, is not claimed in this application, we reserve the right to IO make a new application therefor.

The operation ofour invention will be readily understood in connect-ion with the above description. is set up, as shown in Fig. 1, the tub placed 15 upon the horizontal platform, and the washing machinery properly secured therein, when the machine is ready for operation. When not.
