JOHN O. '-SPOFFORD, OF BOSTON,' MASSACHUSETTS.
BRACKET FOR USE IN THE DRAPING OF WINDOWS.
SPECIFICATIO forming part of -ietters PatentNo'. 352,100, dated November 2,I 1886. l p Application tiled November 12, 1385. Serial No. 1i2617. (No model.)
Figure 1 is a perspective view of my supt porting-plates from their inner sides.
Fig. 2v is alike view ofA the'same from 'their outer sides, and Fig. 3 is a perspective view f said devices in position upon orwithin a windowframe.
Letters of `like name and ki-ndrefer to like parts in each of the figures.
In thedraping of windows it is now customary to employ curtains which are suspended from poles-or rolling shades, and it frequently occurs that in addition Vto'curtains the occupants of a room desire for each window two shades having different colors or different degrees of opacity. When'in such cases the usual supports for curtains andshades are employed,
the arrangement is inconvenient and the window is disgured and rendered unsightly.
To obviate such defects is the design ofmy invention, which Vinvention consists, princi- 'pally, as an article of manufacture, in a plate adapted to be attached to a window-jamb and provided with a socket for the reception of one en d of a curtain-pole and a bearing for the reception of one'of the pivots of a shaderoller, substantially as and for the purpose hereinafter specilied. f
It consists, further, as an article of manufacture, in a plate adapted to be attached to a holes, a, in said plate enable itto be screwed p to or upon a window-jamb, B.
At the upper front corner. of, the plate A is ,a round socket, a', whichprojectsbeyond the vface of. the same and is adapted to receive one end of a cornice-pole, O, While at a point below and in rear of said socket is a projecting boss, a2, within whichis formed a bearing, as, for one of the pivots d cfa shade-roller, D. A second similar boss, u2, with a pivot-bearing, a3, is preferably provided upon said plate below and in rear of the vboss above described.
In order that the cornice or curtain pole C may be readily placed in-position the opening of the socket a of one of the plates A is extended entirely through said plate, and 4upon the rear face Vof the latter is secured a spring, E, which has its free end e bent so as to enable it to pass into said opening, asshown. f
In the use of the devices shown, which are constructed in pairs, one of the same is secured to each jarnb B, near o r at the upper end of 7o the window, and a curtain-pole,O, then placed in position by inserting one `end within` the socket a', that is provided with the spring E, and then pressing saidspring backward until the opposite end of said pole can be entered into the socket a of the opposite plate, A,when by the operation of said spring said pole will be held firmly in the' last-named socket and prevented from being accidentally detached. A curtain, F, may noW be suspended from said pole, eitherby means of the usual rings, f, or in any other manner desired.
A roller,`D, provided with a shade, G, is next claims, broadly, a plate having notches in its edge forming bearings for two shade-roller pivots, nor dol claim as my invention a spring engaging the end of a shade-roller pivot.
Having thus describ'ed my invention, what I claim is 1. As an article of manufacture, a plate. yadapted to be attached to a -window-jarnb and roo provided with a socketfor the reception of an end of a curtain pole, and a bearing for a shade-roller in a raised boss on its face, sub.- stantially as and for the purpose specified.
2. As an article of manufacture, a plate adapted to be attached to a Window-jarnb and provided with a socket for a curtain-pole,and bearings for two or more shaderollers raised above its surface, substantially as and for the purpose set forth.
3. As an article of manufacture, a plate adapted to be fastened to a Window-jamb and provided with a raised socket for the reception of a curtainpole, one or more raised bearings for shade-1ollers,and aspring adapted to engage the end of a curtain-pole inserted in the socket, substantially as and for the purpose described.
et. As a means for supporting a curtain-pole and shade-roller for a Window, the plate pro- 2o vided with a socket for one end of the curtainpole, and a bearing for one end of each shaderoller, in combination With the corresponding plate provided with a socket for the other end of the curtain-pole, and the spring to engage the end of the pole inserted in such socket, and with a raised bearing for the end of each shade-roller, each bearing being grooved or slotted to admit the passage of the shade-roller pivot into thejournal-opening therefor, sub- 3o stantially as and for the purpose specified.
In testimony that I claim the foregoing I have hereunto set my hand this 29th day of September, A. D. 1885.
JOHN C. SPOFFORD.
