Description

(No Model.)
MEAT SUSPENDING HOOK.
No. 351,739. Patented Nov.` 2, 1886. FILL] UNITED STATES PATENT OEEicE.
JAMES GAIRNS, OF PHILADELPHIA, PENNSYLVANIA.
MEAT-SUSPENDING HOOK.'
SPECIFICATION forming part of Letters Patent No. 351,739, dated November 2, 1886.
Application filed August 9, 1856.
.To all' whom it may concern.-
Be it known that I, JAMEs CAIRNs, a citizen of the United States, residing at Philadelphia, in the county of Philadelphia and State of Pennsylvania, have invented a new and useful Improvement in Meat-Suspending Hooks, of whichthe following is a specification.
My inventionvrelates to that class of removable hooks constructed to suspend carcasses or portions of the bodies of animals thereon, and which are attached to a permanent horizontal rail; and it consists in a hook cast upon the outer face of a vertical bracket provided with clamping. end-pieces that overlap and engage upon the edges of a horizontal permanent-rail, and are rigidly secured in connection therewith by means of a wedge,'having serrations upon its top and bottom surfaces, which isin- 'i serted between the lower edge of the rail and the inner surface of thelower end piece of the bracket, as will be :more fully understood from the following description.
' the bracket.
same. Fig. y7 is a face View of the under surface. Figs, S and 9 are views of the opposing ends.
Like letters of reference in all the figuresiudicate the same parts. Y
Ais the hook, which forms an integral portion ofthe bracket B.
a aare the top and bottom clamping end pieces, projected at right angles to the main or vertical portion G, which overlap the rail E by means of their vertical projecting edges b b'. The edge b is beveled upon its lower end, forming a knife-edge, which is caused to be embedded in the rear upper corner of the rail.
G is a. cast hollow Wedge, having longitudi-` nal serrations e upon its upper surface, which bear against the lower edge of the rail, and transverse Aserrations c upon its lower surface, which bear against the inner face of the end a. The object of these serrated edges is to prevent an easy withdrawal of the wedge from its seat. l y
His a chain connecting the wedge to the bracket, having its ends secured to the lugs K K. The use of screws to connect the bracket to the rail is entirely dispensed with, the insertion of the wedge in position serving to secure the lbracket upon the rail.
What l claim as my invention, and desire to .secure by Letters Patent, s-
The integral bracket-hook A B, having clamping ends a a', in combination with the wedge G, provided with serrated surfaces ce', for attachment to the rail E, substantially in the manner herein shown and described.
JAMES OAIRNS.
