Z.F.XEVEBS.
FLY QATGHER. No; 351.727. v Patented 001:. 26, 1886.
INVBNTOR WITNESSES:
ATTORNEYS.
UNITED STATES PATENT OFFICE.
ZACH FRED XEVERS, OF SAN FRANCISCO, CALIFORNIA.
FLY-CATCH ER.
SPECIFICATION forming part of Letters Patent No. 351,727, dated October 26, 1886.
Application filed April 29, 1886.
To all whom it may concern.-
Be it known that I, ZAoHFRED XEVERS, of San Francisco, in the county of San Francisco and State of California, have invented a new and useful Improvement in Fly-Catchers, of whichthe following is a specification, reference being had to the annexed drawings, forming a part thereof, in which Figure 1 is a perspective View of my improved fly-catcher. Fig. 2 is a transverse section taken on line at w in Fig. 1.
Similar letters of reference indicate corresponding parts in both figures of the drawings.
The object of my invention is to provide a simple and efficient device for attachment to windows, forcontaining fly-poison or adhesive substance for catching and killing flies.
My invention consists of a trough approximately of semi-cylindrical form removably attached to the window-sill adjoining the win dow-glass.
Ihe trough A is made of sheet metal in approximately semi-cylindrical form, and is provided with the tongues B, which are received in clips C, secured to the lower rail of the window-sash. The ends of the trough are closed by heads a. At or near one end of the trough a notch, b, is formed in the edge of the trough, to facilitate pouring the fly-catching liquid into the trough and removing'it therefrom. The side of the trough which contacts with the window-glass is made plain, so that it may fit closely against the window-glass, and so that the flies which frequent the window may readily gain access to the trough.
To the plain side of the trough, near the up- Serial No. 200,575. (No model.)
per edge thereof, is secured a strip, a, which inclines forward and outward away from the plainside, and forms a barrierwhich prevents the return of the flies to the window-pane. The trough is partly filled with water and oil,
In carrying out myinvention I do not limit or confine myself to any particular form of trough, nor to the device;for securing it to the window, as these may be varied to conform to the character of the window-sash.
Having thus described my invention, whatl claim as new, and desire to secure by Letters Patent, is
1. An improved flycatcher consisting of a trough constructed to rest upon the sash of a window and against the glass thereof, and devices for securing the same in position, substantially as described.
2. A fly-catcher formed of the trough A, open at the top, provided with the notch b, and having closed ends a, the tongues B, secured to the side of the trough, and clips 0, for receiving the tongues, combined and arranged substantially as herein shown and described.
3. As an improved article of manufacture, a fly-catcher consisting of a trough constructed to fit against the glass of window, and provided with tongues for securing it in position, and with an inclined strip secured to the rear side and projecting downward into the trough, as set forth.
