To all whom it may concern:

Beit known that I, ELisiinn'rH C. Gnrvnnr, a citizen of Sweden, and a resident of Brooklyn, in the county of Kings and State of New York, have invented a new and useful Improvement in Tracing-Vheels, of which the following is a specification.

My invention relates to the iinplementknown as atracing-wheeh7 or such as is used by dress-makers to trace and mark, by indentations through the cloth, the outline of a pat tern, for the purpose of reproducing the same upon a cloth underneath, so as to get two edges of the pattern-as, for instance, of a lin ing-alike.

My present invention consists in the construction hereinafter described, and specifically pointed out in the claim, of a tracingtool provided with a second or auxiliary tracing-wheel parallel vwith and adjustable as to its distance from the other wheel, and the purpose of which is to enable the operator to mark, simultaneously with the outline of the pattern, the desired width of the seam, thus obviating the care and trouble heretofore necessary to make the width even when clipping 0r trimming it off.

In the accompanying drawings, Figure l presents a plan or face view of my improved tracing-tool. Fig. 2 is a cross-section ot' the same, taken on the line x e of Fig. l, and seen Fig. 3 shows a plan view of two pieces of lining, or one piece doubled up, and illustrating in dotted lines the ettect of the operation by marking at the saine time the line of the pattern and that of the seam. y

A is the handle, and B the forked arm, in which is pivoted'the wheel C. These parts are the saine as usual, with the exception that in the tool with but one wheel C is in axial line with the handle, whereas in the present construction it is odset toward one side, so as to get the handle between the two wheels and thereby more conveniently exert pressure upon both simultaneously.

E is the auxiliary tracing-wheel, in all respects similar to the wheel C, and pivoted in a similar arm, F. The arm F is, however, provided at right angles with a lateral extension, f, having upon its surface one or more blocks or projections, b c, which Iit snugly to slide in the slot d, and thus keep the wheel E always parallel with the wheel C. By a flanged thumb-screw, G, threaded with its shank through the lateral extension el, the latter is clamped to the guide-plate D, to retain the wheel Ein the adj usted position.

The distance between the wheels, and con- Y scquently the width of the seam, is indicated by a scale, et, in inches and fractions thereof, which is marked upon the edge of the iiXed part D, opposite to the wheels, as shown in Fig. l.

The operation of the tool is understood at a glance with reference to Fig. 3. One or more pieces oi' lining orother sheet goods being doubled, and a tracing-tool being applied upon the upper ilap, G, to mark, by the wheel O,for instance, the line m, another line, as a, similar and parallel with the line m, will simultaneously be inarkedby the wheel E, and both lines of indentations reproduced upon the underlying ilap II.

Having thus described my invention, I claim as new and desire to secure by Letters Patent- In a tracing-tool, the combination, with the handle A, wheel C, and wheel-bearing B, and with the transverse plate D, having slot d, of the wheel E and its bearing F, provided with the lateral extension f, having projections b c, to slide in the said slot, and means, as G, for clamping the said parts j D together.
