Description

UNITED STATES PATENT OEEICE.
JAMES S. TOIHAM, OF lVASIlINGTON, DISTRICT OF COLUMBIA.
IM PROVED SLIDE FOR HARN ESS.
Specification forming part of Letters Patent No. 35,049, dated April 22, 1869'.
l A-w.
To all u'mm it 'may concer/zy: l that of the box, so that said plate may pass Beit known that I, JAMES S. ToPHAn, of i lllvashington, District of Columbia, have invent-ed certain new and useful Improvements in Slides to Answer the Purpose of Buckles in Harness, ttc.; and I do hereby declare that the following is a full, clear, and exact description of the same, reference being had to the aecomlntnying drawings, making a part of this specification.
In. the annexed ligilres, A represents a lnetallie box with its two ends open. This box may be made of an y desirable length or width or thieknessto suit the size of the strap which is to pass through. The width of the box should be only suiiiciently greater than the width of t-he strap so as to allow the strap to pass through it freely.
B represents a spring-plate, which is provided on its under side with a pin, c, and upon its upper side at each end with a square shoulder or flange, as seen at :r .11. The distance between the shoulders or flanges is always about the same as the length of the box, so that when the plate is inserted in the box t-he shoulders will catch one upon each end of the box, as is shown in Fig. 2.
The width of the plate is a little less than into the box freely.
The flange at one side of the plate, as seen at CZ (l, is a little longer than the Width of the plate, so that the plate cannot draw through the box. The ends of the flanges projecting will catch upon the sides of the box.
In using this slide the plate B is taken from the box and is placed upon the strap and the4 pin ay is pushed through a hole in the strap. The plate is then inserted in the box and the flanges are caught, as shown in Fig. 2. The strap can then neither draw one way or the other, but is fast in the box. One end of the strap is of course riveted to the plate B, the box A being passed over the strap, however, before this is done.
Having thus fully described my invention, what I claim as new, and desire te secure by Letters Patent, is-
The employment of the spring-plate B and box A, constructed and used substantialt as and for the purpose herein. specified.
