COMBINED THRESHOLD AND WEATHER STRIP.
No. 350,102. Patented 001;. 5, 1886.
UNITED STATES ,PATENT OFFICE.
HENRY J. BEANS, OF REYNOLDSVILLE, PENNSYLVANIA..
COMBINED THRESHOL SPECIFICATION forming part of Letters Application filed June 1i?, 1886.
Serial No. 205,012. (Xo model.)
T0 all whom t may concern:
zen of the United States, residing at Reynoldsville, in the county of Jefferson and State of Pennsylvania, have invented certain new and useful Improvements in Combined rIhresholds and feather-Strips, and I do hereby declare the following to be a full, clear, and exact description ot' the invention, such as will enable others skilled in the art to which it appertains to make and use thesame.
This invention has relation to thresholds7 Weatherstrips, and door-locks combined 5 and it consists in the construction and novel combination of parts, as will be hereinafter fully described, a-nd particulzu-ly pointed out in the claims.
In the accompanying drawings, which form part of this specification, Figure l is a perspective view of the lower end of a door with my invention applied. Fig. 2 is a bottom plan view of my weather-strip and door-1oek detached from thetlnfeshold. Fig. 3 is a transverse section on line .t a' ot' Fig. 2; and Fig. 4 is a vertical longitudinal section on line jl/ y of Fig. 2.
Referring by letter to the accompanying drawings, A designates the door, and B B the end portions of the sectional threshold. These end portions,B B,are shouldered at their outer ends to it the door-jambs; but this is not an essential feature in the primary construction ofthe weather-strip, as the shoulders may be cut at the time the weather-strip is to betitted to the door-frame.
Theinner ends ofthe end portions, B B', are convex or are shape, and are designed to lit the concave ends of the middle section of the threshold. All three of the sections, B, B', and C, are slotted longitudinally in their upper faces along their middle lines, which are in horizontal planes, while their integral sides incline outwardly and downwardly therefrom.
The horizontal guard or weather strip D is flanged along its upper edge at one side, as at D', and recessed between its ends, as at D".
The middle section, C, is provided with integral brackets F F, one ot which has a straightvertieal slot, e, which serves as a guide for the laterally projecting rod or pin E when the guard-strip l) is raised or lowered, and the metallic guard G prevents the aceidental removal ot' the pin E from said slot. The cam H is extended on one side to form ahandle, H, is provided with an arc-shaped slot, 7i, and is supported between the brackets F F on a pin, g, which forms a ifulerum therefor. In the slot 7i works a laterally-projeeting pin, E, which is secured lo and controls the raising and lowering of the guard-strip l).
W'hen the door is closed by raisingthe camlever H, the guard or weather strip I) is thrown int-o the groove Z in the bottom edge of the door, thus making an effectual guard against the entrance ot' wind, snow, or rain, and at the same time securely locking thedoor on the inside.
Having thus fully described my invention, what I claim, and desire to secure by Letters Patent, is-
l. A sectional threshold, the adjacent ends of which are provided with interlocking portions and a longitudinal slot, in combination with a Vertically-adjustable guard, substantially as described.
2. A sectional threshold, the middle section ot' which is provided with concave ends and the outer section with convex inner ends, and a longitudinal slot extending throughout all ofthe sections, in combination with a vertically-adjustable weather-guard, substan4 tiall y as described.
3. Athreshold having a longitudinal slot, in combination with a vertically-adjustable weather-guard having a tlange on the upper edge thereof' and a lever pivotally secured thereto for raising andlowering the same, substantially as described.
4. The combination, with the longitudinally slotted and grooved end sections, B BQ of the middle section, l, with the integral brackets FF, one having groove c, the pivoted cam-lever II, having the integral handle I-l/ and the slot h, for receiving the rod E, aml the guard or weather strip I), having iiange D and recesses D, substantiallyas specied.
5. The combination, withthe door-frame and the door having the longitm'linally grooved lower edge, Z, .of the sectional threshold with the longitudinal middle slots, the iianged and recessed guard or weather strip D, the brackets F F, having a guard, G, and the slotted cam H, swinging or pivoted on ping, substantially as specified.
In testimony whereofI affix my signature in presence of two witnesses.
