To all whom it may concerm' Be itknown that I, JOHN XVILLIA M EMSLEY, a British subject, residing in the city and county of \Vorcester, State of Massachusetts, have invented a new and useful Improvement in Looms, of which the following is a specification.

My invention relates to means for effecting the setting and adjustment of the lathes of looms, as for leveling the race or other purposes, by raising or lowering either end by its swords or supporting-standards. ture is fully shown in the following description and accompanying drawings, illustrating the application of myinvention to one of said swords or standards.

In said drawings, Figure 1 is a side view showing the lower part ofthe sword of a lathe, the eye-socket, and bar connecting the two. Fig. 2 is a central vertical section of the same. Fig. 3 shows a view of the end of the sword A as seen from below. Fig. 4 is a cross-section of the connecting-bar G on the lineay ofFig. 1.

The operation in effecting the adjustment is evident: Vhen the screws a a are loosened, the bar 0 can be turned to raise or lower the sword A and the race it supports. Each end of the lathe of the loom being similarly furnished gives full and complete control of the height of the race, and permits leveling it when desired. \Vhen duly adj usted,the screws a a are tightened and hold the parts securely.

The bar 0 might be made with asquare collar on its middle for turningit, or a round one with holes, if preferred.

Having thus fully described my invention, what I claim therein as new, and desire to patent, is-

l. The combination of the eye-soeket having the screw-threaded hole therein with the sword of a loom-lathe having a hole in the end thereof, the screw-threaded connecting-bar O, and the set screw or screws (6 a, whereby the said bar is adjustably held at one end by its screw-thread and rigidly at the other by set-screws, substantially as described.

2. The adjusting-bar 0, its middle portion made square, whereby it can be readily turned, and having a groove or bed, 0, in its upper end, combined with the sword A and the socket B, substantially in the manner and for the purposes described.

3. Asword and an eyesocket, combined with a connecting-bar screw-threaded on its lower end and provided with a set-screw at the upper end, in the manner substantially as described, whereby at its lower end it can be vertically adjusted and at its upper end it can be rigidly held, and the sword thereby adjusted to and secured at any desired height.
