CORNELIUS J. PHILLIPS, OF NEVYORK, N. Y.
COLD-CHISEL.
SPECIFICATION forming part of Letters Patent No. 349.119, dated September I4, 1886.
Application filed May 29, 1886. I Serial No. 203,608. (No model.)
.To all whom it may concern:
Be it known that I, CORNELIUS J. Pan.- LIPs, of the city, county, and State of New York, have invented a new and Improved Gold-Chisel, of which the following is a full, clear, and exact description.
My invention relates to a cold-chisel designed particularly for plumbers use in forming openings in pipes and the invention consists in forming the chisel with one or more shoulders above the bit, whereby an opening formed by the bit may be easily enlarged with the same tool.
Reference is to be had to the accompanying drawings, forming part of this specification, in
which similar letters of reference indicate cor- The object of the shoulders c is to enable an opening formed in a pipe or other object by the bit b to be easily enlarged by breaking the edge of said opening with the shoulder a, the flattened head a and bit 1) remaining in the opening, serving as a guide for the use of the tool in thus enlarging an opening. In this way the efficiency of the tool is greatly increased, especially in forming openings in pipes where it is difiicult to keep the bit I) in place upon the object wrought upon.
Havingthus described my invention, what I claim as new, and desire to secure by Letters Patent, is
1. As a new and improved article of manufacture, a cold-chisel formed with a bit and one or more projections or shoulders, 0, substantially as described.
2. The cold-chisel A, formed with aflattened head, a, bit I), and one or more shoulders, a, substantially as described.
CORNELIUS J. PHILLIPS.
