TRANSPARENT TRACING BOARD Filed Sept. 18, 1967 INVENTOR HELEN J. GOLDREN A TTORNEY United States Patent 3,484,952 TRANSPARENT TRACING BOARD Helen J. Coldren, 3936 Wildwood Road, San Diego, Calif. 92107 Filed Sept. 18, 1967, Ser. No. 668,494 Int. Cl. 610% 11/06; B42d 19/00 US. Cl. 35--26 1 Claim ABSTRACT OF THE DISCLOSURE A transportable tracing device employing translucent paper including a transparent plate carried by a main frame, the plate carrying the article to be traced. The frame also supports a roll of transparent paper which when unrolled covers the article to be traced. A second frame for holding the transparent paper over the article is pivotally supported by the main frame.
In practicing the present invention, I provide a transportable tracing device including a main frame which carries a transparent or translucent plate which in turn support the article to be traced. A roll of translucent paper is supported by the frame, A retainer in the form of a frame is pivotally carried by the main frame and is movable to a position for retaining the portion of the paper, which was unrolled from the roll, over the article to be traced.
Other features and the advantages of the present invention will be apparent from the following description, reference being had to the accompanying drawing wherein a preferred embodiment of the invention is illustrated.
In the drawing:
FIG. 1 is a left side View of the portable tracing device, showing the same supported on a table in tilted position by a pivotally mounted leg;
FIG. 2 is a top plan view of the device looking in the direction of arrows 2 of FIG. 1;
FIG. 3 is a fragmentary sectional View taken along line 3-3 of FIG. 2;
FIG. 4 is a view similar to FIG. 1, but showing the leg in inoperative position, and showing the retainer and extended translucent paper in raised position; and
FIG. 5 is a view similar to FIG. 4, but showing the retainer in its lower position.
Referring more in detail to the drawing, the transportable tracing device 20 is shown as being supported by the top of a table 22. The device 20 includes a main frame 24, which supports a transparent or translucent plate 26; this plate supports a paper 28 carrying a design 30 to be traced.
The rear end of the frame carries a roll 32 of transparent or translucent paper in such a position that when the paper is unrolled it extends over the plate 26, and the paper 28 thereon. The main frame 24, also pivotally supports a second frame 34 by pins 35 at the rear of the main frame and forwardly of the roll 32. This frame 34 includes runners 36, which are adapted to overlie the sides of the paper portion 38 which has been unrolled from the roll 32. The frame 34 also includes a transverse section 39 which interconnects the front ends of the runners. This section extends downwardly over the unrolled portion of the paper and over the front end of the main frame 24. Thus the unrolled portion of the paper is held in ice place on the sides thereof and along the front of the main frame 24.
The main frame is supported by rubber feet 40. The main frame can be supported in a tilted position, as shown in FIG. 1, by a leg or legs 42 which are pivotally attached to the frame 24, by a pivot pin 44. In this manner, the rear end of the device can be raised relative to the front whereby daylight can be admitted to the underside of the transparent plate 26. It will be understood that any desirable light source can be employed underneath the transparent plate 26.
'It is further to be understood that the use of transparent also comprehends translucent, and likewise the word translucent comprehends the word transparent.
In operating the device, the operator will first move the legs 42 from the position shown in FIG. 5, to that shown in FIG. 1. The article to be traced, for example, the design on the paper 28 is placed over the transparent plate 26 after the frame 34 and the paper portion 38 has been raised to the position shown in FIG. 4. Thereafter, the frame 34 is lowered, pushing the transparent paper over the paper 28. The design 30 on the transparent paper 28 can then be traced by a pencil or pen upon the unrolled portion 38 of the paper.
From the foregoing, it is immediately apparent that I have provided a portable tracing device, which is simple in construction, it can be readily used by children, as well as commercially. When in a collapsed position as shown in FIG. 5, the device is compact requiring only a small storage space.
it claim: 1. A transportable tracing device employing translucent paper, comprising in combination:
(A) a frame; (B) a transparent plate for supporting the article to be traced; (C) means for supporting a roll of translucent paper; (D) means for retaining a section of the paper, when unrolled from the roll over the transparent plate, said last means including runners extending longitudinally forwardly from the rear of the frame and overlying both sides of the unrolled section of the paper, and including a transverse section interconnecting the front of the runners and extending downwardly over the front of the frame; (E) and means for pivotally supporting the retaining means on the rear of the frame.
