Description
United States Patent 3,471,891 CLOSURE MEMBER FOR THE INSERTION APERTURE 0F CURTAIN RAILS Wilhelm Hachtel, Musberg, Germany Filed May 18, 1967, Ser. No. 639,444 Claims priority, application Germany, May 18, 1966, St 25,414 Int. Cl. Ed 13/02 US. Cl. 1687.4 6 Claims ABSTRACT OF THE DISCLOSURE A closure for curtain rails has a stopper carrying a bow-shaped spring engaging the track groove of the rail and provided with a downwardly extending eye or hook.
This invention relates to a closure member such as is used for closing the apertures or recesses required for d introducing hangers into the track grooves of curtain rails.
For this purpose it is known to use stoppers of wood or plastic materials which are so shaped that after being introduced into the aperture they are secured against fallin g out by being turned.
This securement is, however, not quite sufficient in some cases, so that the stopper detaches itself from the rail when heavy vibration occurs, and thus hangers are no longer prevented from falling out of the aperture.
Moreover, an additional fastening member is frequently required in order to secure that end of the curtain adjacent the aperture to the curtain rail.
An object of the present invention is to eliminate these disadvantages.
Another object is to arrange the closure member so that it can at the same time serve to fasten the curtain.
Other objects of the present invention will become apparent in the course of the following specification.
In the accomplishment of the objectives of the present invention it was found desirable to secure the closure stopper by means of a bow-shaped securing spring which is detachably connected to said stopper and engages in the track groove in the rail and a downwardly extending portion of which is constructed as an eye or hook.
In a preferred embodiment of the invention the spring has a resilient bearing clip which is disposed inside the bow and which detachably embraces a pin provided on the stopper. The downwardly extending portion of the securing spring has the form of a spring hook, so that a loop on the hanger tape of the curtain can be hooked on in a simple manner.
The closure member of the present invention is very simple to fit, sits perfectly securely in the rail, and permits the desired fastening of the curtain.
The invention will appear more clearly from the following detailed description when taken in connection with the accompanying drawings, showing by way of example, preferred embodiments of the inventive idea.
In the drawing:
FIGURE 1 shows a front elevation, partly in section, of the closure member mounted in a rail,
FIGURE 2 shows the closure member in a position during insertion into the rail.
FIGURE 3 is a plan view of the closure member.
FIGURE 4 shows another example of construction of the closure member.
FIGURE 5 is a front elevation of the closure stopper.
FIGURE 6 is a front elevation of the securing spring.
FIGURE 7 is a plan view, partly in section, of the mounted closure member.
The closure member consists of a closure stopper 1 and 3,471,891 Patented Oct. 14, 1969 "ice a securing spring 2 which is detachably connected to the stopper 1 and engages resiliently in the track groove 3 of a curtain rail 4. The spring and the stopper are preferably made of a plastic material, which also imparts the elastic resiliency to the securing spring.
The fiat or leaf securing spring is provided in its widened, bow-shaped upper portion 5 with a downwardly open bearing clip 6 which is arranged to resiliently engage around a pin 7 provided on the top portion of the closure stopper. The bow 5 of the securing spring 2 has, in addition, a shoulder 8 at each end of the preferably semicircular curve of the bow, by which the securing spring engages behind the edges 9 formed by the aperture 10 and the track groove 3.
The bottom portion of the securing spring 2 may be in the form of an eye or, as in the present example, in the form of a spring hook 11, one end 12 of which is adapted to be connected by interlocking (i.e. from looking) with the corresponding co-acting portion of the hook.
As shown in FIGS. 3 and 7, the stopper 1, whose extension 15 fits in the aperture 10, is provided with a centrally extending slot 13 whose width corresponds to that of the bottom portion of the securing spring, so that the latter can be pushed through the stopper 1.
The pin 7 which on the mounting of the closure member engages in the bearing clip 6 of the securing spring, is carried by two cheeks 14 which extend upwards on both sides of the slot 13.
As shown by FIG. 2, the closure member which has previously been assembled from the stopper 1 and the securing spring 2 can easily be introduced into the insertion aperture in the curtain rail simply by slightly compressing the spring 2. After release of the spring the closure member is perfectly secured against falling out, since the shoulders 8 of the spring bow are locked in the track groove.
As shown in FIG. 4, the closure stopper 1a may also be rectangular in shape. In addition, the bearing clip 6 may not only be circular (FIG. 1) but also provided with a V-shaped or any other shape of opening.
It is apparent that the above examples have been given solely by way of illustration and not by way of limitation and that other variations and modifications can be made therein within the scope of the appended claims.
What is claimed is:
1. A closure member for the insertion aperture of a curtain rail having a track groove, said closure member comprising a stopper fitting into said aperture to close said aperture, and a securing spring detachably connected to said stopper and adapted to engage resiliently in said track groove, said spring having an upper bow-shaped portion and a downwardly extending bottom portion, said upper bow-shaped portion being widened in relation to said bottom portion, both sides of said upper bow-shaped portion having a shoulder, said shoulders engaging the edges of said aperture and said track groove.
2. A closure member in accordance with claim 1, wherein said bottom portion consists of a spring hook having an openable end and a co-acting hook portion, said end being connected to said hook portion by form locking.
3. A closure member in accordance with claim 1, wherein said bottom portion consists of an eye.
4. A closure member in accordance with claim 1, wherein said securing spring is of flat form.
5. A closure member in accordance with claim 1, wherein said securing spring is of leaf form.
6. A closure member in accordance with claim 1, further comprising a downwardly open bearing clip located Within the upper bow-shaped partition of said securing spring, and a pin connected to said stopper, said clip resiliently engaging said pin, said stopper having a centrally extending slot through which the bottom portion of said securing spring is adapted to be pushed until the CASIMIR A.
