U TTED STATES PATENT OFFICE.
JOHN RINGEN, or sr. LOUIS, MISSOURI.
GASOLIN E-STOVE.
SPECIFICATION forming part of Letters Patent No.345,545, dated July 13, 1886.
Application filed August 5, 1885. Serial No. 173,645. (No model.)
To all whom it may concern.-
Be it known that 1, JOHN RINGEN, of the city of St. Louis, in the State of Missouri, have invented a certain new and useful Improvement in Covers for Gasoline-Stoves, of which the following is a full, clear, and exact description, reference being had to the accompanying drawings, forming part of this specification, and in which Figure 1 is a perspective view of a gasoline-stove provided with my improved cover. Fig. 2 is a perspective view of the rear portion of the cover that forms the combustionchamber. Fig. 3 is a perspective view of one of the end pieces. Fig. 4 is a similar View of the center piece, the center and end pieces forming the front portion of the cover of the combustion-chamber. Fig. 5 is an enlarged Vertical section, taken on line 5 5, Fig. 1, showing an escape-pipe for the products of combustion.
My invention is an improved cover for a gasoline-stove, more particularly for use in cold weather, having a combustion-chamber formed above the burners which communicates with a chimney or flue, permitting the products of combustion to escape. a
My invention consists in features of novelty hereinafter fully described, and pointed out in the claims.
Referring to the drawings, A represents a gasoline-stove of any well-known form or construction, having 'a top plate or table, A, formed with the usual openings, A.
B represents the rear portion of the cover, having rear flange, B and side flanges, B, forming the combustionchamber, and is lo cated over the table of the stove, back of the burners, as shown in Figs. 1 and 5. This part is preferably fixed to the stove, as it is not necessary to remove it to expose any one or more of the burners.
B is a vertical partition at the central portion, forming a support to prevent the front edge of the rear portion from sagging down.
I have shown my improvement applied to a gasoline-stove having three burners, and each of these burners is covered by a front plate having flanges.
G is the central plate, having a flange, O, and O the end plates, having flanges 0, the end plates being preferably hinged to the back part, B, as shown at D, the form of hinge I have shown consisting of a down wardly-extending projection, E, with a lip, F,
on its lower end. This projection is inserted in a perforation, H, in the rear portion of the cover. This allows these pieces to be swung around, as shown on the right-hand side of Fig. 1, to expose the burners when it is desired to use the stove in the usual way in which gasoline-stoves are used. Each front plate of the cover has a perforated lug, M, which maybe grasped when the said cover is moved to expose the burner it covers. The central piece, 0, covering the central burner, is preferably held in place by lugs J, formed upon it, and that enter perforations in lugs 0, formed upon the back piece, B. When the end pieces are in using position, their inner edges are supported by lugs L, formed upon the back piece, and when in this position it will be seen that the entire top of the stove is covered over, forming a closed combustion chamber above the burners, with which communicates a flue or chimney, L, to carry the products of combustion from the stove.
This invention is particularly useful on gasoline-stoves in winter time, or in cold weather, where the stove has to be used in a closed room, and where it is objectioable to have the fumes arising from the stove.
I claim-- 1. A cover for the top or table of a gasoline-stove, consisting of a rear portion, B, extending the length of the stove, having flanges B and B, end perforations, H, and perforated lugs O, the central front plate, 0, having lugs J and flange (3", and end front plates, 0, having flanges 0 and lugs E, substantially as described.
2. A cover for a gasoline-stove, consisting of a rear portion extending the length of the stove, having a chimney for the exit of the products of combustion, end perforations, H, and perforated lugs O, the central front plate having lugs J, and end front plates having lugs E, substantially as described.
3. The combination, with a gasoline-stove, of a cover consisting of a rear portion, B, having flanges B and B, chimney L, lugs L, perforations H, and perforated lugs 0, central front plate, 0, having flange G and lugs J, and the end front plates, 0, having flanges C and lugs E, substantially as described.
JOHN RINGEN.
