IRA MCDANIEL., OF SALEM, IOVA.
IIVIPROVED WASHlNG-MACHINE.
Specication forming part of Letters Patent No. 34,514, dated February 25, 1862.

Be it known that I, IRA MCDANIEL, of the town of Salem, in the county of Henry and State of Iowa, have invented a new and Improved Machine for Washing Clothes; and I do hereby declare that the following is a full and exact description thereof, reference being had to the accompanying drawings, and the letters of reference marked thereon.
The nature of my invention consistsin giving the vibratory or backward and forward motion of the lower section of the wash-board A, resting on four rollers or Wheels B B, by the application of the crank C, shaft D, and attachments E to said section, giving the said mot-ion by means of cog or band wheels, substantiallyin the manner setforth. Thelower section A 'of the wash-board is corrugated transversely of its length, and the upper section F is corrugated in the same way and at.-
tached to the lid of the tub. These two washboards are placed within a suitable box or tub H, of rectangular form, for holding the water and the clothes to be washed. The upper section F of the Wash-board can be elevated or depressed by means of a handle G' IRA MCDANIEL.A Witnesses:
