UNITED STATES PATENT OFFICE.
THOMAS MOORED, OF KALAMAZOO, MICHIGAN.
MOP.
SPECIFICATION forming part of Letters Patent No. 344,454, datecl June 29, 1886.
Application filed June 23, 1885.
To all whom it may concern.-
Be it known that I, THOMAS MooEED, a citizen of the United States, residing at Kala mazoo, county of Kalamazoo, State of Michigan, have invented certain new and useful Iniprovements in Mops, of which the following is a specification.
My invention relates to certain improvements in mop-heads and means for operating.
This invention has for its object a certain new construction and combination of parts to facilitate the operation of washing and drying the fabric part of said mop. I attain this object by the construction and combination of parts illustrated in the accompanying drawings, in which similar letters refer to similar parts throughout the several views.
Figure 1 is a perspective view of the mop, showing the position of the several parts when ready for use. Fig. 2 is a perspective view showing the fabric part of the mop extended, also the rollers and means for operating them. Figs. 3 and 4. are details showing the construc tion.
This device consists ofhandle B, extensible fabric a, rollersc e, rods 8 and or, and collars P and D. The extensible fabric a, composed of the usual material, is fastened at one end to the fixed head a, which is firmly secured to handle B. The other end of said fabric is fastened to the movable head 1), which is operated by means of the stretching-rod s, passing through a hole in the disk 00 at the lower end of said handle, and attached to collar D,
The wringing or drying part of this device consists of Serial No. 169,550. (No model.)
two rollers c c, which operate 011 opposite sides of the fabric a. Said rollers are pivoted to the rods r r,which are bent to form a suitable head for applying the adjustable bindingstraps f, which are used for regulating the pressure of said rollers against the fabric part of the device, and to pass through holesin the disk m, thence to the collar P, to which they are securely fastened, said collar sliding on the handle 13.
It will be observed, by referring to Fig. 1, that by sliding the collar 1) downward or toward the mop-head the fabric will be extended, as shown in Fig. 2. Then, by immersing the mop-head in a pail or other receptacle containing water and moving collar P back and forth, the rollers will be operated by means of the rods 9' 1*, thereby very effectually washing the fabricportion of the mop. Then, by taking it out of the water and repeating the motion of the rollers, the fabric will be dried suf fieiently for practical purposes.
Having thus fully described my invention, what I claim, and desire to secure by Letters Patent, is-
The combination of the handle provided with the fixed head a, the movable head 1 and its operating-rod and collar, the mop-fabrics secured by said heads, as shown and de scribed, and the wring-er attached to the slid-- ing collar 1.
