LAUNDRY CARRYALL OR TOTEBASKET Filed Feb. 5, 1968 ZIJ United States Patent O 3,433,383 LAUNDRY CARRYALL R TOTEBASKET Clifton E. Phibbs, Box 42, Fries, Va. 24330 Filed Feb. 5, 1968, Ser. No. 703,062 U.S. Cl. 220-8 Int. Cl. B65d 1/24, 25/28, 85 /00 1 Claim ABSTRACT OF THE DISCLOSURE This invention relates generally to carrier baskets. y
It is generally well known that a laundromat patron usually has her hands full in carrying a load of laundry in and out of the laundromat, and the additional carrying of washing materials such as soap powder, bleach and the like make the task more burdensome, it being inconvenient at the same time to handle these items. Sometimes accordingly, the homemaker is obliged to make a second trip to bring these. This is of course objectionable as it is more time consuming.
Accordingly it is a principal object of the present invention to provide a laundry carry all or tote basket having means to contain in one convenient carrying unit, such items as washing powder, detergent, bleach, fabric softener and starch.
Another object is to provide a laundry totebag having a convenient carrying handle so that it may be comfortably grasped in the hand.
Another object is to provide a laundry totebag which is readily adjustable in size according to the amount of items to be contained therein thus maintaining the device at minimum necessary size.
Other objects are to provide a laundry carryall or totebasket which is simple in design, inexpensive to manufacture, rugged in construction, easy to use and eflicient in operation.
These and other objects will be readily evident upon a study of the following specification and the accompanying drawing wherein:
FIGURE 1 is a perspective view of one form of the invention,
FIGURE 2 is a side cross sectional view of a modified form thereof, and
FIGURE 3 is a cross sectional view taken on line 3 3 of FIGURE 2.
Referring now to the drawing in detail, the reference numeral represents a laundry carryall or totebag according to the present invention wherein, as shown in FIGURE 1, there is a carrier 11 having a U-shaped handle 12.

The carrier 11 is preferably made of molded plastic for reason of low cost and includes side walls 13, end walls 14 and a bottom wall. The carrier is divided into several compartments 15 by means of partitions 16 for receiving various packaged or bottled items, and the carrier may include one or more trays 17 in which starching solutions may be mixed and in which fabrics may be dipped.
In the construction shown in FIGURES 2 and 3, the carrier 20 is made of intertting carrier sections 21 and 22 which slide telescopically together. The section 21 has side walls 23 that fit between side walls 24 of section 22. The bottom wall 25 and side `wall upper edges 26 of carrier 21 lit between bottom wall 27 and flanges 28 of carrier 22. The handle 29 is comprised of telescoping elements 30 and 31, the first of which is threaded to engage threaded end 32 of flexible shaft 33 extending through longitudinal opening 34 of element 31, the other end of the shaft passing through lug 35 on the side of section 22 and having a crank handle 36 secured to the shaft end.
In operative use, various packaged or bottled items 37 are fitted into the single compartment 38 of the carrier and the carrier is then contracted to an appropriate minimum size for convenience by rotating the handle 36.
While various changes may be made in the detail construction, it is understood that such changes will be within the spirit and scope of the present invention.
Having thus set forth and disclosed the nature of this invention, what is claimed is:
1. In a laundry carryall or totebag, the combination of a carrier and a handle, said carrier including compartment means for receiving various laundering accessories such as washing powder, detergents, bleach, fabric softeners and starch, and said carrier including one or more trays within which starch solution may be prepared and fabric dipped, wherein said carrier is comprised of intertting, telescoping carrier sections to adjust said carrier to any amount of said laundry accessories, wherein said handle comprises a pair of interlitting, telescoping handle elements, one of said elements being internally threaded and engaging a threaded end of a flexible shaft extending through a central opening of the other said handle element, the opposite end of said shaft being retained longitudinally captive and rotationally free in a lug on the side of one of said carrier sections, and the terminal end of said shaft having a crank handle secured thereto.
